  • Part 3. In this latest Spiritual Wisdom of India Reaction Video Sabine and Roger react to Swami Sarvapriyananda. Reaction to "Who Am I?" according to Mandukya Upanishad. This Who Am I, Upanishad Reaction is one of the Deepest we've done so far...
The Māṇḍūkya Upaniṣad is the shortest of all the Upanishads, and is assigned to Atharvaveda. It is listed as number 6 in the Muktikā canon of 108 Upanishads. It is in prose, consisting of twelve short verses, and is associated with a Rig Vedic school of scholars. It discusses the syllable Aum; presents the theory of four states of consciousness; and asserts that Aum is Brahman - which is the Whole - and that Brahman is this self (ātman).
    𝐀𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐒𝐩𝐞𝐚𝐤𝐞𝐫:

That "turiya" has the same "attributes" or lack of attributes (ineffable-ness) of the void or nothingness of buddhism.
in buddhism, its the "void" or "emptiness", not the emptiness of empty space containing nothing, but one that contains all, because all things arise from it and turn back to it.. and its "empty" because it can not be named.
in taoism, they say - the tao that can be named, is not the tao.
anything that can be named, is an object of the senses (the 6th sense of the east is the mind, even thoughts are objects)..
the subject however can never be truly an object from a 1st person pov.
its like the god of advaita vedanta is the positive aspect of the same thing which buddhism talks about when it refers to emptiness, which is the negative fixation.
even in the abrahamic traditions, God's ineffable name is "I AM", so when an abrahamite (jew, christian or muslim) is asked who God is, what do they have to respond with? "I am"..
The anthropomoprphization and externalization or creating the idol of a personal, external God is just a skillful means.
In the end, all traditions seem to teach or refer to the turiyam, in one way or another.
Out of it comes the golden rule - do not do unto others what you dont want to be done unto yourself. becuase there is no "other", whatever you do to another, you do to... YOURSELF.
advaita vedanta helped me to see that. very grateful to swami Sarvipriyananda for illuminating my understanding.

Even if one intellectually understands that they are apart from waking , dreaming and deep sleep state there arises a deep sense of contentment , "Shoonya" feeling which pushes one to do exactly those activities which are needed for today's time and not just those which satisfies ego.

Swamy did not talk about " OM" probably due to lack of time.
The Mandukya Upanishad opens by declaring, " AUM this syllable is this whole world"
AUM is the sound of the universe. when chanted, vibrates at the frequency of 432 Hz, which is the same vibrational frequency found throughout everything in nature. As such, AUM is the basic sound of the universe, so by chanting it, we are symbolically and physically acknowledging our connection to nature and all other living beings.
The three sounds in Om (AUM) represent the waking, dream, and deep sleep states and the silence which surrounds Om represents the “Turiya” state.

@@utubetruthteller Consciousness is an attribute of the immortal, immutable, self luminous, immanent (athma), transcendent and omnipresent shiva just like heat is an attribute or essential nature of fire and the sun. But remember, Shiva is NOT Shakthi (intelligent energy of the material realm) even though they always exist together for the perpetual duality cycles to happen.
eg Manifestation/concealment of the universe, wave/particle, energy/matter, summer/winter, freezing/melting, wake/sleep, man/woman etc This is Sankhya Vedic metaphysics (around which the whole hindu/dharmic tradition was built) which can be validated by logic, double slit quantum experiment and embodied experience. Sankhya Vedic metaphysics combines Advaitha (non dual shiva) and Dvaitha (dual shakhti in combination with the conscious Shiva). Advaitha is INCOMPLETE without Dvaitha. In other words, Shiva is Shava (corpse) without Shakthi and without the conscious Shiva nothing exists.
Point is Maya (another name for Shakthi) is NOT the illusion through which Shiva falsely appears as the universe. Some Advaithians wrongly interpret Maya as the illusion. Maya is the manifesting Shakthi of Shiva. So, it is absolutely real. it also means the material realm is also very real.

Pure Consciousness is supreme reality. Because Pure consciousness exists in Waking, dreaming and deep sleep state. Still it is unaffected by these 3 states. But it is inspiring those 3 states of consciousness. Pure consciousness is the reason behind oneness, because it's only one behind the process.

In this daily routine all I have done is satisfy the needs of my body. At work I have applied my mind to complete the task in hand keeping my mind at work and concentrate. So, all I have done is apply my mind and complete the task in hand. In all this activity I have not spent even an instant contemplating on Who Am I. This dichotomy frustrates me and I feel sad. Dipak Now you know why Charles Darwin's "Monkey" theory is being taught in schools all over the world (to remove the equation of divine) so that mindless hedonism can be practiced by factory outputs of modern education system.
Point is TAT TVAM ASI meaning You (conscious and immanent athma or the soul) are (already) that (conscious, transcendent and omnipresent divine) regardless of whether you realize it or not because without the conscious, immanent and omnipresent athma or divine nothing can exist. Identification with thoughts and body is just an illusion because the 5 senses are experienced by the athma or soul and it is NOT the doer. Conscious and omnipresent athma or soul is like a silk thread which goes through different pearls (animate and inanimate) if you think in terms of an analogy

    Buddhism is derived from Hinduism.
Buddha or Siddhartha was a hindu.
Most of his ideas are derived from Upanishads and Vedanta.
    Meditation is derived from yoga.
There is of course one twist. Upanishads want you to realize the I for the sake of eliminating ignorance.
Buddhism wants you to attain nirvana for the sake of ending suffering...
A bit convoluted. I don't know whether it makes sense...

    • @Value_Pilgrim
      @Value_Pilgrim 2 ปีที่แล้ว

@@Amar-vc5ou well ignorance leads to emotional attachment to desires. Like Krishna says - karmanye vadhika rastu ma falesu kadachinam. Follow the proper process or do the right karma, but do not expect the outcome.
Mankind, sees something or hears about something or reads about something and desires for it. Nothing wrong in desiring. In fact that's how everything gets done. You desire and then you work towards it and hopefully you achieve it.
But between desire and outcome, one needs to evaluate the desire, only work on this desires which are right and then too not expect outcomes to be commensurate to the the inputs. If you operate like that you will be a contented and happy person. That's the linkage between ignorance and desires.
Just killing all desires wily-nily is not the right approach. Nor regarding desires as evil.

@@Amar-vc5ou I would say ignorance starts from not examining one's desires. Desires can be good, bad and evil (tamasic, sattvic...). Differentiate between desires. Strive for the right desires. And even then realize that only effort is in your hands, not the outcome.
For some reason, my comments are not getting posted.

There is no word like Lord in any of the Sanskrit vedas so the english version may be a little false.

Everybody needs to read the King James Bible. It’s basically Samkhya Philosophy and probably the only bible the Christian’s should follow. Also, don’t hang onto the words of it, read and let go.

Now... • Universe appears to awareness • Universe appears in awareness • Universe is not other than awareness. The point here seems, Universe is Maya & Awareness (Atman) is fundamental. So reality is defined by Maya. Which is neither real nor unreal. Then to what category does it really belong to, we normal humans think in terms of binaries. And that Atman, which is fundamental does not belong to the realm of this so called reality, which is Maya. So here it is meant that reality is not that real, because it is dual natured. Looks like, the whole concept of Maya is centered around the idea of non duality. Is it possible that the very concept of Maya was introduced to avoid the responsibility of all logical pitfalls, to resolve the gap or contradiction between two irreducible elements like matter and spirit, -- for that the whole existence is denied and the idea of Atman is highlighted ? Not very fair actually

Yes and judging for the translations you read , it sounded from dvaita (dualistic) school. So, the interpretation of Swamiji is different from the book.

Please stop reading that translated Upanishad by Eknath. There are many errors and in all of the translated books including this(like referring brahman as god or lord in this case). If you want to know the real truth read it in its original form in Sanskrit, and then a new world will open up for you!

The fourth is super conscious state not the *supreme conscious* state 👈 if you want supreme conscious state you have go to the 5the state 👈👈
    1.super conscious (Athma)
    2.supreme conscious (paraMathma)
I'm Lord Shiva.. I know better than Upanishad 👈😇
