Picked one of these up a few weeks back for working on lifts (elevators) It has no problem tightening/ undoing wire rope grips up to a 16mm rope to the required tension. Also works great on lift motors & gearboxes. It's great being so lightweight means it can be used easily up ladders and has also saved me getting so many scrapped knuckles when doing rope grips up in confined spaces
Kielder seems to be a recent company, aiming these tools more at the motor trade than general use, hence the size of the body advantage. named after the famous rally stage. lets hope they hang around long term.the website is nicely laid out and explains the technical specs very well.
Yes, they do seem pretty new compared to some of the bigger brands. They are stocked by some big sellers though, such as Machine mart etc. Thanks for the comment ;-)
Ive got this very same unit and i have to say that i'm over the moon with it in terms of compact design and power. It does say in the instruction pack that it will get more powerful the more its used and run in so can only get better. Great video
Just picked up the 700NM monster from Machine Mart. I hear and see nothing but positive reviews on Kielder products Time to get the Subaru rolling again 😎
Thanks for that information, I just spotted the lads at Bad Obsession Motorsport using one on their channel. I'd not heard of Kielder and was interested to see a review.
I bought one couple of months ago when my sparky wrench gave up, for the the price, 430NM and the light weight absolute bargain, use it for working on the car, brilliant bit of kit, can't fault it so far. :)
I have dewalts 20v Max torque brushless impact and I got my brother Makitas version but this impact caught my eye in your speed tapping video and noticed how light it was
Thanks, yes this is a handy little unit. It's light enough to be used all day long with no fatigue and much smaller than the impact that I use on site. Thanks for the comment
Ultimate Handyman I have a question. I work at a hardware store in California in the US and lately I've been getting a bunch of people buying import bidets that will not match up to anything I have. any recommendations for websites I can find adapters and more info on? anything would be greatly appreciated thanks in advance
This one if great for working on vehicles, but the 700NM version would be useful at times. The Milwaukee that I use at work is great, I think that has 1250 foot lbs of torque- but it has destroyed three of my M18 batteries with the vibration! Thanks for the comment
I do believe Ingersol Rand makes the most powerful cordless Impact wrench, but I am very happy with my Milwaukee 18v 3/8 drive impact wrench. If i need more than that ill use the air impact .
how much torque does the Milwaukee one do ? I have one similar that gets used quite a lot so far so good just the locking pin jams the socket on the shaft making it hard to remove great video
The Milwaukee has 1100 ftLbs of undoing torque, this Milwaukee uses a friction ring by my older Milwaukee has the pin and it's a real pain as you need a small implement to remove the socket. th-cam.com/video/ZroBFiYbwOc/w-d-xo.html
They will not beat a pneumatic impact wrench but they are far more portable and convenient, also much cheaper as you don't need the compressor. Thanks for the comment
although most if not all of the tool reviews done by this guy are very good idea i completely disagree with him on this one,it has problems undoing most nuts and bolts which are not even fully torqued and charging the batts takes forever.
They have a new one out now which is only 4mm longer than this model (if i remember correctly) but they claim it does 700nm, i shall be purchasing mine on a vat free event at machine mart.
Ultimate Handyman i do have this model and 99% of the time it gets the job done but there have been the odd occasion where i need to use an extension or wobble socket to undo a stubborn bolt and it hasn't been able to do it but if it had 700nm it likely would be able to.
i wonder if impact wrenches have a standard measurement criteria such as how long it takes to reach the maximum rated torque, i mean it would be no good f that torque rating was after 10 minutes buzzing on the same bolt!
I'm not sure, but I have used my Milwaukee a few times at work recently and it seems to struggle undoing a lot of nuts and bolts now. Thanks for the comment ;-)
i wonder if some models might suffer from loss of torque more than others as they get older....hmmm i wonder if both old and new models could be compared? idea?
The scaffolders on site use impacts, but I'm not sure of the make! I'm sure this would be ideal, as it is not too heavy or too powerful. Thanks for the comment ;-)
I use a Makita myself (I have a full set, makes things easier). I like it's highly quality, and I like it a lot. Though chances are they aren't much different.
***** Just the wrench probably only cost me $120, but it was in a deal with I believe five other tools, three batteries and a charger. So it was at a significant discount. I believe the average cost for an 18v Makita wrench is around $180.
The final tightening should be done with a torque wrench but most garages do not do this. All the garages I have been to either tighten the nuts fully using a impact wrench or tighten them using the impact, then put the torque wrench on and turn it for a "click" although the wheel nut is already over torqued.
Thank you great review. Can't believe how light that is. It's lighter than my 18v makita combi! A good test will be the crank bolt on a Honda, or driveshaft centre nut on my old Nissan primera, they are done up by Zeus himself! Needed a 6ft pole to undo!
You are welcome. I have never had to undo anything that tight, have you considered a flogging/slogging wrench/spanner? th-cam.com/video/RqgRMkJNVSA/w-d-xo.html
Thanks I've seen that video and they do look they would do a good job. Unfortunately since the nut was seized and you probably couldn't get an open ended spanner on it the use would be limited. Now if they could make slogging sockets with a bar on them! Now there's a thought!
Not sure if I showed them in the video, but you can get ring slogging spanners. They only make slogging spanners from about 24mm upwards if I remember rightly. I have 24,27,30,32 and 36 in both open ended and ring flogging spanners at work as they can save you from getting the oxy-acetylene out. You can get a piece of 1 inch steel pipe and squash the end slightly and it slides over the end of the flogging spanner and use it as a large spanner- but not sure if they would work on vehicles!
@@micmucky4993 Kielder is still going and still releasing quality products. Word on the road, it was founded by employees from nearly all the major brands - hence the quality.
I work at Machine Mart and after three months I had bought the drill, wrench and driver for myself. Compared to similar priced tools they're amazing.

I have one and it's great. Bought their standalone drill driver for 30 odd quid too which is also amazing.

Good choice!
just ordered one, hope im not disappointed.

I got one of these for my birthday.
Brilliant bit of kit!
Undid my 110 land rover wheels no problem.

Likewise! I'd never heard of Kielder till the last BOM episode of the Cargo conversion, now at the top of my list.

I've often wondered how these electric wrenches compare with air tools. Obviously they score on portability but how do they compare on power?
They will not beat a pneumatic impact wrench but they are far more portable and convenient, also much cheaper as you don't need the compressor.

Thanks for that info, very helpful

Has it got a led work light
No, it does not have a built in one, but you can get one that is compatible with the batteries- www.kielder.co/products/18v-li-ion-led-worklight
Do you know what the torque was of the wheel bolts?
I have no idea, as they were tightened by the garage.
Thanks for the comment 👍
Thanks for the video. Very informative as usual. 👍🏽

Great review, well priced, is this aimed more at the automotive market?
Thanks Faisal, yes this is aimed more at the automotive market due to its compact size and weight. For the money its a great piece of kit ;-)
Great video, but where can you buy one ,and can you get spare batteries ,
You can get them on ebay plus spare batteries- fave.co/2kzLX4E

thanks guys, it does answer the question!
what is the nut breaking torque?
430NM is the maximum torque from this impact.
430nm maximum torque but it will take half hour to build up the torque lol
Any scaffolders recommend this?
The scaffolders on site use impacts, but I'm not sure of the make!
I'm sure this would be ideal, as it is not too heavy or too powerful.

the new standard is not to finally torque the wheel bolts up with your impact gun but to use a torque wrench.
That's correct. However all the garages I go to use an impact wrench and not a torque wrench.

Quick tip, when tightening wheel nuts you should always hand start the threads as you could possibly damage them! Good review though 👍!

Not great, after few times of use, torque rating dropped to the point it won't open 110Nm lug nuts. Bad luck buying this.
My Milwaukee at work has done exactly the same!

alright then, :)
Get makita won't be disappoint well known reliability and we'll made and been around for decades not 3 years or something like this wrench
