      I have the Xiaomi Mi Max which is just a bigger Mi5 and it works great in the US. I've had it about month and I travel around a lot and so far no problems with it.

      It's not that they don't work in the U.S....they're just really hard to get with the cell phone provider monopoly over here.

      Cat Smith OK I'm not seeing a lot of the carrier bands listed on that phone, so how is it working here? I am fairly new to cellphones and all the technology involved though. How were you able to get it unlocked? Do you have to pay a lot more money when you do use it, in other words, will your carrier allow you to use the same plan you're already on? Sorry for so many questions, but I'm not finding a lot of information on using foreign phones not distributed by American Carriers. Nobody is really talking or they talk around it. This question is really for anybody though.

      My point exactly. The 'flagship killers' are all pretty sweet devices but their ability to be used in the states is questionable at best.

    another flagship killer (kinda) is the LG Stylo 2 Plus. It has fingerprint sensor, 13 megapixel back facing camera, 8 megapixel front facing camera, removable back and battery, split screen viewing, screenoff memo, 2900 mAH Battery, and a 5.7 inch display that's unfortunately 720 HD but still looks gorgeous on the big display. All for $130 at MetroPCS and is very easy to unlock so you can choose your carrier

      My Note 4 broke down on me, I loved the phone, but it's not guaranteed it will work great. Memory got corrupt as well in it and it did fall out suddenly. I used it pretty heavy in a VR headset and maybe the heat it produced killed the Note 4.

    I suppose i'm one of the only people who thinks the fingerprint scanner on the back is a bad idea. makes the scanner unaccusable if it's on it's back and doesn't provide any significant upgrade in convenience when held in your hand normally.

      Yudo NeidaNo it makes it a lot easier to use the sensor when its on the back. Think about it this way. Pretend you holding your phone. You want to know the first finger that touches your phone besides you pinky. You guessed it, your index finger.

    I bought a Xiaomi RedMi Note 4 with the MediaTek Helio x20 chipset (10 CPU cores), 3GB of ram and 32GB storage a couple of months ago for 200$ brand new. It chews up everything I throw at it (85,600 on AnTuTu benchmark, 1500 single core and 4200 multi-core on geekbench), has a sleek design, a stunning 1080p display and the camera is also pretty good (has more contrast to make the picture more crisp). Honestly, it's the best phone for every day use I've had for 200$. Only downside, they don't include headphones with it :(

    Since Verizon is one of the largest cell carriers in the country, would you sometime do a vid that covers great yet modestly priced Chinese manufactured smartphones that are compatible with the Verizon system. I have read many reviews of these phones only to discover later that they're not compatible or only offer 2G or 3G but no 4G/LTE. If you depend on purchasing a smartphone from Verizon they will certainly work but the cost is $$$$. Thanks for helping!

    I'm using my OnePlus One with custom rom(running android 7.1.2, soon Android 8), really no reason to upgrade. If it becomes slow I might buy a new phone but surely I won't spend 700+ for it. OnePlus One was 300 euros(64GB) which was a nice price against the competition back then(Samsung Galaxy S5 which costed 800 Euros in my country at that time)

    I have been using the Honor 8 for almost a year. I am very happy with it. I have everything on almost all the time, the battery can hold up for a day and still fine after a year of use. I was skeptical about Chinese brand phone but I was wrong about honor 8. Wanted to get a Samsung Galaxy but they look ugly imo. Only run me less than $400, fast, reliable, light weight and scratch resistance. I may get my next phone from them again.

    do any of these phones have LTE band 13 - so I can use on Verizon in USA?

    • @artdogg50
      @artdogg50 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      burrito rustler Not familiar with all of them, but don't think I saw band 13 listed on any of them. The 6GB version of the Le Max 2 has an awful lot of bands listed, but I don't recall band 13 being one of them. Most are only compatible with T-MOBILE and AT&T. Some swear they were able to get the Axon 7 working on Verizon though. The American carriers haven't exactly thrown out the welcome mat for them though .

    • @carlosedwardos
      @carlosedwardos 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Verizon is the worst cell phone company in USA, but they have the best cell network - so sometimes you need their great network in more rural areas or areas that are a dead pocket for other carriers. But this company is always trying to be evil and charge hidden fees and just generally be a pain in the ass to deal with, very sleazy evil company, that many people here in America are forced to deal with, in order to have good cell service at their location. Verizon's LTE band 13 is low frequency and therefore has great "deep building penetration", much like band 17 on GSM carrier AT&T (who has the other decent cell network here, and much easier to deal with) - Sprint is just expensive with crap network and service, and the German T-mobile cell service is a pretty nice company to deal with but their network is only good in large cities and along major highways.

    • @artdogg50
      @artdogg50 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      burrito rustler You know I've talked to a lot of people who say Verizon can open up their network more if they really wanted to, but just refuse to do it.

      Because these are still the best value phones you can buy right now in 2017. Title doesn't refer to year the phone was released, it refers to the year in which the video is relevant. As soon as some 2017 phones get released that offer better value, they will get listed.

      not all of them, but I can recommend the 5.15" Xiaomi Mi 5s, it uses the Sony IMX378 camera sensor - the same one used in the Google Pixel, which is a phone regarded as having one of the best cameras out right now.

      pijesz No, most of the complaints seem to be with the cameras, also GSM only, missing bands, suspect fingerprint sensors, and no APP drawer. It appears some can be unlocked, but Sprint and Verizon just refuse to do it.

    Thanks for the awesome review!
    I chose Honor 8 After watching reviews and some research for about 1-2 weeks. Read in my comment why, also I will describe them :)
    400$ Class: 8 Honor!
    -3T if you want performance, but risk having shitty support and being abandoned when OnePlus 5 comes out.
    -Axon 7 has better speakers, but really, buy a 20 dollar bluetooth-speaker and u will be set on any phone.
    -Honor 8 if you want to have the best all-around phone with a serious company and best safety of all choices. Also best design!
    200-250$ Class: Honor 8 Lite (everyday user) or Honor 6x (working alot/reading alot)
    -Le Eco Le Max 2 might perform better, but has no 3.5mm jack (tells something about the company) and god knows what support you will get.
    -Xiaomi Mi5 for a good all-around use phone, but horrible design, yet seems legit.
    - Honor 8 Lite, once more for awesome performance and a safe company. The better low-budget "all-around" phone. Comes with Android 7.0 Installed.
    -Honor 6x has a bigger screen and battery. Personally I think it could get clumsy for every day usage, but for someone who spends alot of time reading and using it for business I'd say it is the best choice.
    Why I chose Honor 8:
    *The best design of ALL phones by far
    *Serious, big company with good support and service. (Feels safe to know I can use it after 3-4 years even compared to eg 3T)
    *Sales frequently, I got mine recently for 320 dollars, yet worth the price either way.
    *Perfect size.
    *Fast and smooth software even able to compete with Samsung galaxy s7 edge.
    *The fastest fingerprint sensor and has multiple functions
    *The Camera is suprisingly awesome.
    *Simply the best choice for the one who wants a phone for Everything.
    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    *Vs OnePlus 3T:
    OnePlus 3T is insane when it comes to performance, but they have the WORST support and service. Those with OnePlus 2 who upgraded their phones got several bugs, and since the company the company has focus on OnePlus 3T, they didn't fix these bugs for these people. If you buy 3T now, you won't be dissatisfied, but wait until the OnePlus 5 will come out and ur 3T will be in big trouble. They are focused on making money, not on you as customer.
    *Vs Axon 7:
    Seems like a great choice, yet not as supported in my countries (Sweden and Poland) as honor 8. Also not as good design.
    *Vs LeEco Le Max 2:
    No 3.5mm jack? This ruined everything about that phone, and tells something about the company.
    *Vs Xiamo Mi5:
    Don't like the design at all.
    *The Other phones:
    Out of the question. Either too bad design, too risky companies or doesn't have the features that I need.

    • @artdogg50
      @artdogg50 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well the comfort of great customer support and services is something to seriously think about. Far as I know, there are no local US places I can take a Huawei phone to if I start having issues, well besides maybe Best Buy. Not an ideal situation, and I love Best Buy.
      Far as I'm concerned though, the OnePlus 3T beats the Honor 8 in pretty much every category, except the camera. The OnePlus 3 and 3T were recently updated to Android 7, so owners should be good regardless of the OnePlus 5 eventual rollout. So obviously, I disagree.
      The Axon 7 and Honor 8 seem about neck and neck to me. Honor 8 might be better simply because it cost less. No disrespect to Huawei, but I personally prefer ZTE. Not sure it's a rational opinion, but I simply prefer to role with ZTE. Haven't had a serious issue yet with any of their phones.
      The LeEco Le Max 2 is a better phone, I agree. Base unit can be bought for about $200 overseas. An absolute steal IMO. $300 6GB version virtually covers every band and frequency available, save 13.
      Support has been labeled suspect though and there have been some quality issues. I hear they've been addressed though. LeEco is rumored to be in trouble financially too.
      Xiaomi phones maybe labeled ugly or different by many, but they are pretty much performing well all the way across the board. I think they are as much sleeper phones as the Huawei phones. Don't think they generally cost as much either. Xiaomi support has been labeled strong from everyone I've ever talked to.
      The best phone at $200 is the Lenovo Zuk Z2, which you didn't even mention. I do think the LeEco Le Max 2 is a better phone, but it's a discounted rate from being on the market so long. $200 is the Zuk Z2's base price though. I don't doubt the Honor 8 can hang with any flagship, but I'm betting the Zuk Z2 can hang better.

    • @fredrikkraft2229
      @fredrikkraft2229 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree with most of things you wrote. Assuming you are from the US and I am from north europe, where Huawei is found in any phone-shop nowdays, the possibility to take part of support for Honor 8 is different - which is the main reason I chose Honor 8.
      But over 3T i would prefer the Axon 7. Look how those with OP2 were left behind. Even if the bugg would be fixed eventually (which is wasnt after months, and I doubt still is?) it told me that - this is not a company I want to support with my money, despite selling the most awesome phone for a good price.
      I was really into the Zuk Z2, but I don't really remember what kept be away from it. I remember that I thought that it wouldn't suit me personally but be probably the best phone to gift to a parent, that is why I didn't mention it - because I felt like I had nothing to really say about it.

    Traditional flagships have features and capabilties that mid tiered devices don't offer such as pro audio capability, pro security, pro camera capabilties etc. Raw processing power doesn't mean anything these days. Buying a device like the iPhone 7 or the S7 with all it can do can actually save you money in terms of providing functionality that you would have otherwise had to buy more equipment for. Stock Android is great as a generic camera phone that could run basic apps but regardless of how powerful the processor still can't off as much functionality as true flagships.

      "pro security" It's hard to take seriously someone who thinks large corporations don't spy on him.
      "Stock Android is great as a generic camera phone that could run basic apps"
      The OS your phone uses is a rebranded version of *Stock* Android with a different skin and some more apps.
      "Traditional flagships have features and capabilties that mid tiered devices don't offer"
      No they don't and you dont need to dump over 700$ on a phone either.

Most of these phones seem to have a key 1or 2 bands missing, so performance can be iffy, well in the U. S. anything. Even if on T-Mobile or AT&T in the U.
