Displays are a huge thing for me and you changing the wallpaper and focusing on them for more than 3 seconds, unlike most vids, showcases them in a way that satisfies me. The main reason to choose the vanilla version over the Pro version (for me at least) used to be the headphone jack, but now there's no reason NOT to upgrade.

Also, wired headphones don't need to be recharged and there's no latency when watching videos or playing games. As a person who appreciates the compact form factor and also possesses a P30, I concur with your preference toward the standard P40. 2 minor setbacks, though, are that it does not offer the higher refresh rate and does not have Google Play.

Let s be honest, anyone who has a P20 pro still hasn t got any reasons to upgrade. Mine behaved perfectly in the first 11 months of use since i ve bought it.
I like both phones, they both seem like twins that are not identical, with one just growing a little more than its twin... just I wouldn't pay extra just for a little bit of a better mobile when the Huawei P40 is able to do everything that the Huawei P40 pro can do except the little things you pointed out... I want this mobile as my next mobile, just where anyone can save money I think they would do.
Huawei gone for a bespoke standard NM media card - how would one read this on a laptop? Laptops read microSD via the SD adaptor which works fine or SD for cameras - both pretty common.

Since Huawei is now building his own Ecosystem they won't have the Google Play Store anymore but you can still download all your needed apps in the Huawei "AppGallery" if not there are so many other ways to download the apps without Google Play Store! You actually don't need any Google Services anymore since Huawei already working on his own Maps, HiCar (AndroidAuto), AppStore and so much more. Excited to see their growth

I put him underwater and took mindblowing photos, videos. U can run any game at ultra HD and max fps. I run strike elite at max 60fps, pubg 55fps (still-no drop). Video at night isnt that good but not that bad that u cant use them to share. But photos at night are mindblowing good 🤯🤯🤯
The lack of Dual SIM is a major thing for me. I really wanted to buy something aside from Apple or Samsung. Xiaomi 10/pro was an option, but can't cope with their prices and massive size right now.
Honestly, I like the design on the p40 more. Its small, and it doesnt have a curved screen. Also im on a budget so yeah. The cameras are also nearly the same, and the p40 has better stabilisation in videos. Mostly in selfie mode videos.
The best news about the P40 series of phones releasing... The P30 Pro price goes down 😜. I've been interested in getting the P30 Pro for the wife to complement my Mate 20 Pro, but have been priced out of getting one. Hopefully sub-£350 by the end of May.

i owned the s20 ultra. looking at this phone, i can say i dont regret having s20 ultra due to several reasons: 1. p40 dont have google apps and save the hassle about security or technical concern 2. i believe ultra has more punchier sound due to dolby atmos speaker 3. 120hz 4. camera color balance is overall better on ultra. RYYB setup in other youtuber is just yellowish and not realistically accurate. ofc it has its pros and cons but ill be sticking closest to realistic color and adjust it from there. 5. ultra has that sleek punch hole which totally fine and doesnt distract as that ugly p40 pill shaped cutout i mean like, who the heck think its fine when the notification icons is pushed to the middle instead of the left corner???
I'd agree, but I live in China and I can get the P40 much cheaper than the S20 and the whole no google thing is not relevant here either. That, plus Samsung screwed me over with my S8+ on the warranty, so I'm switching to Huawei. Those teardrops/puncholes/bezel on top never borthered me. I don't get the importance placed on that by some people, but to each his own of course. Enjoy your S20 though.
Bit of a doozy as far as downsides go though, unless you can get all the apps you use with full functionality. I've found that I still can't get certain apps working properly, and apps are the most critical thing on a smartphone. The Google Play Services sideload systems have all stopped working as of August, too, so I'm not sure if Huawei themselves have done this.
