The texture / octave switches are there to help shape and tone down the octave sound for your rig. Also, the blend knob goes from 100% dry CCW to 100% wet CW, so full "He" on the blend knobs means you are *only* getting the octave effect and no dry signal. If you are getting thinner and "glitchy tones", then I have to say it is all user error (as the vast majority of pedal problems are). Try W1 or W2 on the octave switch, the smooth setting on texture, and *dial back* the damn blend knob.
THIS IS AN AWESOME PEDAL. I use this in conjunction with an MXR Distortion+. It adds a great buzzsaw tone and is unlike any other distortion pedal I have ever used. (I've only been playing since 1979 so there may be one or two out there that I've missed.) If I were to form a Spinal Tap tribute band, this is the pedal I would use. It is really well made too. You can tell just how good they are by checking the listings on eBay. There are almost no used ones listed. The pedal in this demo is the Mk.I model which has been supplanted by a smaller more pedalboard friendly configuration. I prefer the bigger pedal as it makes it easier to see the settings.
The Damned - I feel alright.... You do have excellent taste Andy, and fine skills to compliment. On another note, this pedal is mighty fine. I think I may invest. Thanks for the great demos.
Hi Andy, you set the bar 4 hq demos! Played mine for the first time today - wow! Had to wait 3 weeks but well worth it. Anyone out there unsure if to reach into their pockets- don't be this will be a classic. Keep em coming Andy. Cheers.
Being the owner of the original Wolftone Helium and Chaos pedals I flipped out when I saw this! Especially considering the price( the originals were around $340). What I'd like to know is whether malekko have tamed the distortion circuit. It was NASTY in the originals! Also, I'm hoping they reissue the Chaos as well. One of the coolest pedals ever.
i think this is one of the best fuzz pedals i've ever heard. very hendrixy-sounding demo, and he is about the only one of those hippie people i can stand...well maybe a couple others :)
Well, it's 1969 OK all across the USA.... Way to quote some classic stuff while you're rocking out, Andy. You can't be old enough to know about this stuff firsthand...so where did you pick it up? Very impressive grasp of material...
yeah, ive had thing thing for about two months now and damn if it isnt the last octave box i'll ever need :D it is a little touchy depending on the rig you use, and depending on whats at hand it may be too shrill for you. paired with my fresh mex tele and somewhat dark, obscure, and surprisingly good univox u45b it really does its thing well. just use a tube amp and cut the highs a bit- then you're set for life -:D
PGS, you are the devil. After watching this demo, even though I am trying to save money, I added this to my "to buy list." Someday. Eventually. Then I saw the 15% off sale on Sunday and almost went for it, but my will was strong. Today, after seeing it in the promotion email you sent out, I thought about it some more. It wasn't as good a deal, but I really did want it. NOW IT IS SOLD OUT. So I had to buy it at full price from Malekko directly. I hope you're happy with yourselves. :)
@dillonmccabe1 they only recently started carrying reverend so that may be why. They've actually started carrying quite a few interesting brands imo. Specifically the Hanson Firenze II caught my interest.
what pups are you using? On any time you use a pedal that needs to track w/ your playing (like a octave) you're gonna want hot pickups for a stronger signal. Try putting it after a boost, that usually fixes it for my low-gain tele single coils
Maybe its my rig, but all I get is a thinner glitchier versions of the tones featured in this video for the Helium. I'll give it another week of fiddling but I think it's not going to stay in the rotation long.
@bjorngot73 I agree....my wife seriously wants to start leaving a photo of me, and her contact number at our local music shop. So the employees can notify her when i arrive, and not allow me to purchase more pedals. The term "honey, i'm just going to pop in to see what type of pedals they have...." does'nt fly with her anymore. Best of luck, Aloha!!!!
i dunno.. i've owned a behringer multi fx and one of their phasers. i was really unimpressed by the latter. not a terrible sound, but a real tone sucker and it had a distinct hum/hiss that made it impossible to use live.
Oh dear Lord I would do nothing but play and bend doublestops on this all day long. ALL DAY. Brilliant pedal!

Love the Damned. Originally by Iggy.Oh, and GBH. Love all versions.
Best pedal of its kind I've heard. Rock on!

I ordered one today, can't wait 'till it's here!
Seemed to me like Andy really liked this one! he was really getting into it and his playing was awesome!

Andy, you ARE the best.
Just great sound! Andy, you rules!
Why put this up only 5 days before Christmas?? Not nearly enough time for me to throw this on my list now
Andy brings out some proper Hendrix, respect!
yes! Another TCV song in one of Andy's demos! Killer!
This guy Andy is a damn good precise player, you sound like one of those guys who started playing when he was 5 or 6 man, good job good review!
i think this is one of the best fuzz pedals i've ever heard. very hendrixy-sounding demo, and he is about the only one of those hippie people i can stand...well maybe a couple others :)
This kicks ass with a headphones!
Holy crap The Who Knows was phenomenal! I too got chills.
Well, it's 1969 OK
all across the USA....
Way to quote some classic stuff while you're rocking out, Andy. You can't be old enough to know about this stuff firsthand...so where did you pick it up? Very impressive grasp of material...
2:07 so I can listen to it over and over and over
Excellent job with Who Knows.
I really want this pedal!

this would perfect for the intro to "My Heroine" by The Maine
I like it better with buckers. Neat beat effects.
@jeezuschryst I meant the guitars they showcase, not the guitars they play during the pedal showcases

Andy, I would buy your cover of scumbag blues!
This pedal is sweet!
@Guitarisforgrins Great guitars. Really impressive.
it... is... awesome.
Wow this sounds amazing! But I have a question
I'm in a 3 piece rock band, would this help if I wanted to get a fuller sound?
Good song choices!
nicely priced as well.
this is the only thing i need
as soon as I red Helium, I knew it would be an octave thingy :D
@dillonmccabe1 they only recently started carrying reverend so that may be why. They've actually started carrying quite a few interesting brands imo. Specifically the Hanson Firenze II caught my interest.

Anyone on here ever played a Reverend? How are the necks?? I'm REALLY digging them.
@Temka957 Oh! So that's why it sounded familiar. Thanks!
I just figured out what style of distortion Jack white uses to get his lead solo tones...
I feel allright...I feel allright

Is the PGS store a walk-in and play around guitar store or do you have to make an appointment or what?
Damn he can play!
happy holidays pgs and to all \\m//
THEM CROOKED VULTURES. It's official. Andy is the best of the best.
@bekitamas The Germanium 4 doesn't have any kind of octave up. It'll definitely do the fuzz, though.
what kind of guitar is the red one…at the beginning??? thanks
Reverend Jetstream 290. A model which is no longer in production. The equivalent now is the Charger 290.
What's that last song? Pedal sounds sick!! Yay PGS! Yay Andy!
Iggy and the Stooges! Nice!
I feel alright!!!
Can someone give me a list of all the songs he played in this demo? lol Cause they were all amazing!
@spacepartysan that's what you say right now, just wait and do some browsing on their channel you'll need a lot more ;)
@FreddyFuFu Thanks for the reply.
O MY GOD !! WHO KNOWS From Jimi Hendrix Band of Gipsy !! you're the best Andy *_*
I also noticed he doesn't use a pick. just his fingers! 0__0
Sounds real nice. That sweet ass playing certainly helps too!
Hi,
Which channel of the Imperial are you using ?
Andy rules!
Anyone know that guitar you're playing in the begining?
I bet it's Andy's playing, he could probably make a behringer sound great!! ;)
This in Comparison to the B:Assmaster? This one seems to be not as raw and brutal, instead a bit more versatile.. Anyone been able to compare?
@dillonmccabe1 i guess you didn't notice the GL and LP?
what song was at 1:44?
i figured with a name like helium that it would give it a high pitched sound
for the life of me I need to know what the name of the last song is
What's the first song that Andy plays? :O
what was that last song he played?
not bad.. but i think the EHX Germanium 4 can do that too.. ....it's just my opinion..
@secretagentYTer
yes you are right
i dunno.. i've owned a behringer multi fx and one of their phasers. i was really unimpressed by the latter. not a terrible sound, but a real tone sucker and it had a distinct hum/hiss that made it impossible to use live.
Nice! and you got some Stooges in there too. I feel alright!
Baby-oh-baby, feel my love....btw, The Stooges just slightly TRUMP Them Crooked Vultures...
nice
the stooges -1970!!
"I feel all right!"
5:20 sounds like Chewbaca!!
i second this.
Are these videos sponsored by Reverend guitars? It seems like that's what's played in most of them
me too.
@fsxolliefsx Don't know exactly how you feel about Rediohead but I just thought that I would remind you there are much worse.
@TheFonkyNico Who Knows By Jimi Hendrix Band of Gypsys.
hendrix sound from the band of gypes. all that is need for me
He's playing Hendrix on something that isn't a true Fender! But it's ok, he made up for it by playing Them Crooked Vultures.
@therecordfable I have one of those :D
Who knows? Andy knows.
Who Know's
Who knows?
@dillonmccabe1 suuuuuuuuuuure
2:08 PEIDO ENLATADO!
yeah it's his playing. i went to other videos and they were all shit.
Stoooooooooooooooooges!!
STOOGES!
Andy can play the worst pedal ever and still make me want to buy it
The Stooges!!!
Scumbag Blues by TCV!!!!!!!!!!!
If you don't use a pick you'll get a much, much fatter tone.
