Kamigawa would have been a much more interesting setting for a d&d Magic crossover book then the strixhaven book we got. They could have had one half of the book beset in the past with the other set in the plane's present.
Hold up hold up! that map is a fan creation and has stuff in the wrong places. Takenuma is in the east, Jukai forest is in the west, Eiganjo is in the center, otawara/minamo academy in the north and Sozenkan in the south. The modern map has Towashi in the center with Eiganjo now the north and otawara in the north east!
When Kamegawa Neon Dynasty showed up in MTG Arena, I kinda looked at it with awkward disinterest because it looked like a weird fever dream of random ideas, pretty much entirely ignored it. Fast forward a few years, I pick up the game again and have a renewed outlook on Kamegawa and am making a blue/white deck for a fresh new niche with vehicles and pilots, more or less taking up the futurist mantel while grounding itself with white order and discipline. Nothing against the kami, but mechs are cool.
When Neon Dynasty first appeared, I was adverse to it due to the idea of technology being introduced to a game centered around Magic. But as time has gone on, its become one of my favorite settings. Long ago, I was a fan of Shadowrun and I've come to think of it as MTGs take on SR. Also I think they have done a good job of building its unique lore with the spirts, shrines, dragons, and interesting characters like the Wandering Emperor.
