After listening to this album 20+ times, I can safely say Scurrilous > Fortress IMO. This album grows on you BIG time.
Without a doubt.
Yea it requires a year to grasp it
Fortress < everything else
I'd say that this album definitely doesn't have the conviction, layering, or imagery Fortress had. It is a step in more mature songwriting however. A lot of people who cant stand the vocals on the first 3-4 PTH releases including the EPs. Scurrilous is so emotional that it is painful to listen to certain parts of the record
@@brandonharris9160 I agree, Fortress is goated. Don't get me wrong I love Scurrilous but Fortress is just, its so fucking good.
Disgustingly underrated song. The breakdown/chorus is so brilliant and catchy
They remind me of a classic metal band with a nice technical feel to it. It's pretty awesome.
MrJXT1 it's as if Bruce Dickinson joined a prog metal band
I feel like this song is all about Propagandhi.
It is my dude!
Awesome song about the greatest band ever by the second greatest band ever.
Top drawer.
This dudes voice makes me think of the modern day DIO.
These guys are coming to town in March. Pretty pumped
@saxmodeman88 I due absolutely agree that Fortress was kind of an unfair bar.. Haha, just like... the most epic piece of music ever written basically... But Scurrilous did a good job of following that up... Since Kezia, I don't think that Protest has made a song that has not given me the chills with it's sheer epicness... What an absolutely... impossibly talented band... I can't believe it... In my opinion, the absolute pride of Canada since 2006... Muchos love for Protest
Yeah fortress is an unfair album to gauge other metal music against in general.... They did write the album and compose the music prior to ever even being capable of playing any of the songs so they had to learn a body of art that they aspired to create and I'm sure it will probably be the last time an album is recorded in that manner.....unless PTH decides to do it again.
Sexy. What program was used for this? The video is amazing....
"Every 'fuck' is pronounced." Epic. Love that part.
@TheSheedz the album is up on the torrent sites, i still plan to buy it, but its defiantly worth a download, its great
i'm not gonna scroll through all the comments to see if ppl are actually asking what band this song is in homage to or being sarcastic, so i'll answer honestly: Propagandhi. the best band humanity ever gave messy fucking birth to.
Nine Inch Nails becuase of the line at 0:38 as well as the part where they say "Twenty years won't end their reign", N.I.N started in 1988.
Can't wait to see this guys again.
Protest The Hero,Mastodon and Gojira are the best metal bands from this decade.
TheGui PB replace mastodon with btbam or just add btbam to that list.
it's protest the hero, that's who it is.
So who is this song about? My first guess was Propagandhi, since it's a long lasting (first demo in 1990), engaged and loud mouthed, canadian punk band. Chris Hanna also does vocals on 'Sex Tapes'. It's really just a guess, but I think it's a good one.
Last night i had a dream where I met Rody, Tim and Arif. We went to the park, chilled, and smoked cigars. It was fucking awesome.
@chunkygorillas how do i listen to the whole album?!?!?!?! you guys are saying its up on torrents but im not way into this stuff and i have no idea what that means lol but how do i go about listening to the whole thing?
PTH both lyrics and music are awesome
@qpstrafe Do you normally listen to PTH?
All 3 of the albums are awesome.
I can't believe I've never heard of this band before now... Damn this is awesome!
Good song. I am excited for this album.
The beginning could easily be Animals as Leaders. Great!
@TriviumMaster83 can't be because he says '20 years wont end their reign' and Rage broke up a long time ago.
If Protest The Hero, Between The Buried And Me, the OLD Human Abstract and Opeth, I'd paint the walls with the amount of jizz they'd make me release from just seeing the poster for that show.
i've had this album for like two and a half months now...
@123Bloodmeat you can download it "illegally" from torrents sites. google how to torrent if u want it
Yes he does... Arif writes most of them, but, for example, Rody did most of Scurrilous. This is indeed in part Rody's admiration of Propaghandi.
Can we be legit for a second though? This is the best Rody had ever sounded.
Agreed
protest is still the greatest band ever, regardless of which album is best.
:|
Me and my brother has been talking about going on a concert with PtH for years.
A while ago we ordered tickets for a concert with Avenged Sevenfold, then someone told us the guest band were PROTEST THE HERO! Blew our fucking minds :D CAN'T WAIT!
@BrettCarusillo Saw them live Monday night, kickass show. (Didn't play this, however. D: ) Rody had a friend of mine come onstage, it was pretty intense. I've got video of it too!
The Album is awesome!
I am a very avid metal head and this is the only contemporary metal band that I enjoy. Enough said.
@DJustice91 I can't figure it out either :(, Rody said if you listen to it it's pretty obvious....
@qpstrafe lol. I don't think this is the best song, but I love Protest the Hero. Mostly for the guitar.
nice video!
@ISlapYouBitch I can't even lie. I WOULD give it up in a heartbeat...
@kingofmetal88 Propagandhi is one of they're favorite bands/inspirations. The lead singer of propagandhi guest stars on Sextapes
@CuriousJack420 Small little things, almost like a personal epiphany that you'll notice about this song, I can't even say that i'm right from what i'm getting out of it, or that anyone is besides PTH, look man its some fucking hard shit to explain in this little box counting my characters remaining its... fuck...its like a weird personal experience with the song where you hear things you never realized thats derived from the lyrics and your life experiences matching up, idk
@NekGuitar that scares the shit out of me that you say that, because if you show me a 16 year old that can even understand the philosophical points or the stories that PTH tells i would be shocked, also to find a singer/screamer who musically adds up to the band
@halfmastmutiny thats an epic statement.
@ud0ntkn0w Totally agree with you. Being a guitarist, i loved the instrumental version of Fortress so an instrumental of Scurrilous would be awesome.
Protest The Hero makes me want to go fucking crazy. I love it :)
720p is a hell of a difference in sound
@bejohn343 It's definitely Propagandhi. Good guess.
@MegaMUDBALL
I don't understand screaming. I've got very young and fresh ears, and I can't even catch what most bands scream about.
Except for PTH, but that's because I know their lyrics. :3
that thing spins omg.
Everyone should check out Between The Buried And Me. PTH AND BTBAM on the same tour would be the shit.
Thanks. I was looking for this.
1:51 and 2:17 , tune.
You got me. Im SUPER jeals. Like...super.
Techincally, while hail is the opposite of protest and hero is the opposite of villain, the names mean the same thing. I use the same joke though.
The Reign of Unending pop music i would say... So laugh then growl well try but laugh at them for they do not know how beautiful metal is.
@downfallin darkest hour also is talented and has some meaningful lyrics. songs such as "with a thousand words to say but one" and "a paradox with flies". Still not as good as PTH, no one is, but PTH isn't alone in mixing talented musicianship with good lyrics.
@damonshigh
This is absolutely the cleanest his voice has ever sounded. It's his most professional work. You don't have to react like I committed a fucking sin by thinking so.
Oh yes! I can hear the Hi-Hat!
@milkandmeat Every song on Kezia is brimming with emotion and intensity. While not as technical as the latter two albums, I personally like Kezia best. I think trying to grade music by sheer technicality is stupid, because there's more to it. Sure they use power chords, octave slides, along with sudden little pauses etc., but that album is just so...intense. Scurrilous and Fortress are great, but in some aspects lack that intensity and passion. My opinion, anyway.
@FuzzyWookie197 We'll see about that!
@CuriousJack420 And i'm sorry that context came aggressively i'm not trying to be just trying to communicate some intangeable shit (like philosophy which is pretty much a fucking paradox) is hard and i'm usually good at helping people out but its so personally based i can't see how you'd understand what i was saying, i apologize.
@FallenhasaDeathwish that's my opinion too (:
Sooo gooood (:
i just finished making a song on guitar. then i heard this song and was put the fuck down. protest the hero is amazing
@0011023
this song is about Propagandhi
@butterknucklez no I havent Im going to wait for the release but I have heard other songs, and from that I dont think this is gonna top fortress. mind you i dont think much can.
2 people are ... entitled to their own opinions
Hail the Villian would be a sick name for a band!
@MrHardcoreBass
You can't compare them, they are too different. Personal preference is one thing, but to rank them in such a way is impossible because Protest the Hero has varied their sound and music too much to do that.
Personally, I love Kezia the most because of the depth behind the lyrics and the story behind it, but I just can't bring myself to compare the albums together because they are great in their own respect.
Nice thumbnail.
You embedded this video on your site then blocked embedding on the video.
Wtf guys.
Rody has said that he doesn't write the lyrics for Protest, so probably not.
@mikhail718 I would able to die happily if I were able to go to that show o.o
Guys, don't feed the caps lock troll. It makes him feel important.
If Protest the Hero is trying to disappoint me, they're doing a terrible job.
Love the video thumbnail, "Every FUCK is pronounced"...lol
@chunkygorillas yeah I know the albums up on torrents but Im going to wait to get it, and I'm gonna have to disagree with you abou kezia. It is a great album but I prefer fortress
dude this songs about a band they all love anyone know what band it is? i cant fucking figure it out im thinking propagandhi dont know though
All Hail Propagandhi!
@TideFalconFan It has more than 24k hits
@MrHardcoreBass
whoa whoa whoa....you've got it backwards
@qpstrafe its okay. we all have our own opinions :)
@ud0ntkn0w
...and i bet it didn't ;)
I, for one, think it's turned out great! You have to give a few listens through but it'll build and build to pure awesome... unfortunately, the lyrics came out a bit too far off of their past efforts, Rody surely has his own style of writting (and pretty different too) but i never thought arif could approach his lyrical work like he did with his songs on the record... doesn't sound like past-him at all imo
@MegaMUDBALL You have no idea how much that makes me sad to read =/ BTBAM is so amazing and you should see past the vocals (which I love personally).
Protest the Hero = this generation's Iron Maiden.
More like In Flames. PTH is totally different
@venusfly9108 i don't think so
True True, it can't come close to fortress, still good though.
Scurrilous really is a grower. Gotta say I enjoyed it more overall than Fortress.
@ninetailedhollow5 yes that's the point LOL
lol i was just thinking the same thing,infact a propagandhi song brought me here
@TheSheedz Kezia > everything
@MrHardcoreBass Scurrilous is better then Fortress in my opinion. But Kezia is def their best!
thumbs up if you fkn love the lineup for the Summer Breeze festival 2012
@medic2009guy I am teribbly sorry..
@theanimal6592 Oh wait, I thought you said Kezia was a punk record? Now you say it's hardcore record? Which is it?
we all know kezia was their best album.. stop trying to act cool by saying otherwise
Hail the Villain is the reason I got into Protest the Hero, and I love both.
But PtH IS INFINITELY BETTER.
OMG, that sounds like Legion (Dead By Daylight) theme
@medic2009guy Hey, not all of us teenagers are stupid, just most of us.
watch it in 720p
