    Good day sir! Amazingly I'm going through the same thing with one of my costumers and he lives on my street, so yes I like having customers on the same street i live on .
    He is always late paying but when I send him a text saying you have not payed for this months service yet I will be around this Friday to pick it up. I get a text saying ok np. He is 3 weeks behind. I weeded his flower bed 3 weeks ago and I got a text with a picture of his flower bed, saying am I getting a credit for this my flower bed is full of weeds again. I replied back to him no one is going to guaranty weeds not coming back and the weed that is growing we have nothing in Ontario (Canada) that will kill it that we are allowed to use on it.. Its been two weeks no reply back from him.
    I'm going to be e mailing him stating how much he needs to pay for the remainder of the season. If not payed in full I will not be servicing him anymore. I only 3 people I collect monthly everyone pays up front at the start of the season. Everyone is happy about paying for the season up front it less headache for them and me. Next year no one will be monthly All pre payed.
    Take care sir and enjoy your week

    If yur smalltime cuttn as needed/new customer just go PRE PAY, if they have a problem then most likely there will be a problem - " if ya cant pay now how u gonna pay LATER"

    We have always charged our customers a flat monthly rate for about 10 years now and have gotten burned 🔥 a few times over the years. We Invoice at the 1st of the month prior to services and they have till the end of the month to pay. If they go past the due date then, they get charged a 10% late fee. We accept checks, credit cards through "SQUARE" or prepaid in cash sometimes 🤔 thankfully we have had a long history with the majority of our customers and they are pretty good about paying on time but, occasionally we get the slow payer or no payer and they get the boot 🥾 we started making "new to us" customers prepay for our services for the first year so, we can feel them out as a client .

    With experience comes wisdom. You have well defined and easy to understand parameters on your business. Customers in general appreciate this as it allows for "eyes wide open" decisions to be made pertaining to doing business together.
    Immediate payment at point of sale is definitely the best, however, lawn care is not a retail business, in other words both parties are not always present when services are rendered. If I was a full time operator I would set up with yard book or similar service and do card on file as you recommend .
    As my llc is my side business I use zelle or venmo. I notify the client upon completion via text and payment is expected that day. If I do not receive payment I do not cut again until payment is received. My main accounts are church properties. These are prepay monthly accounts which may be unique in the commercial lawn business. I actually let go of all but 2 of my residential account this season. This is what I've learned about residential clients. There is absolutely no issues in finding customers if your reliable and cut well. The low ballers and "chuck in the truck" operators have abused the industry to where reliable operators can charge properly and the clients desire to keep you. 5/10/15 bucks more per cut will be paid if you make it easy/hassle free for the client.
    Anyway partner I enjoy your wisdom and videos.

    I give people one late payment. Meaning I mowed and tried to bill their card, it declines, I call they say I’ll pay you on x day and we move on. However, if it happens again in the same season then I keep billing until it goes through and I stop servicing the lawn. I’m too busy to be chasing down accounts for payment.

      You need to get them 100% credit card on file. That way you get paid IMMEDIATELY. I have never sent out an invoice or or waited for the customer to pay me, I always charge their card when I am done with the lawn.

      It’s less than 2% per transaction. As with all business expenses mower fuel salaries blah blah blah the customer pays for it anyway.

    Just curious, do you make your customers pay the average cost over a 12 month period or is it monthly charge during the season only, or is it pay per service? I'm trying to come up with a better system for my business. I'm a first year owner operator and currently taking any form of payment. Thank you for wisdom sir.

      I keep it very easy it’s per service so if I come to work I get paid.

    What verbiage do you use when you drop a customer? Do you call, email, text? Do you explain why? Just curious? Thanks.

    • @GwinnettLawns
      @GwinnettLawns  ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Email. Something like due to the continued history of financial issues with your account and trying to get paid on time as we originally agreed, it would be best if you found another lawn company that had no flexible payment terms. We are immediately discontinuing service as of the date of this email. Have a great day! 😋
