Yup. If it takes more than a couple of minutes and I have to haul it away, I will charge them. I just had a client that had stacked up all of the debris from her yard by the road. In her country, they do not offer curb side pickup of debris. I told her I could throw it in the dump and haul it off for $20 (since she had already gathered it all and placed it in one spot). She seemed surprised that I would charge her until I explained that I would have to haul it to the landfill and pay to dump it. An hour plus, round trip plus $22/ton.

I turn 65 in December and I started the biz when I was 25 I think. Anyway I worked a fulltime job for 37 years while doing this on the side. It was tough and it gets harder each year. I've been retired from the "plant" for almost 3 years now. I'm doing lawncare still on a smaller scale (about 30 properties) just to keep the old man out. I occasionaly workout at home well actually at the shop. I try to do a program called 5x5 which is sorta like a powerlifting program. I currently bowl 3 days a week which also keeps me active.

We're running about the same setup but mine's a 16 ft. npr. I run Ferris z2 52 in. and z3x 72 in. for even bigger properties. I mainly bought it for Georgia Pacific. I can spin my 52 around in the truck. If I'm not mistaken I've spun the z3x around aswell.

I hate doing leaves. It's nasty and it's hard on equipment. I lose money on leaves because I'm too stupid to raise my rates.

Quickbooks is great and simple to use. I've been using it since the 80's i think. If you sponser a ball team you can write off those expenses like shirts for example. I did a bowling team one year and wrote the shirts off for advertising. I run everything out of the checking account off the debit card. At the end of the year I just print off the monthly statements.

Great info. I am right by you in Smyrna and it's a tough balance between large cleanups and continuing with maintenance. Praying for this storm to pass smoothly

I may not do any leaf cleanups this year, just don’t have the setup. A few years back I would mow weekly all the way through the end of the leaf season. This would allow me to mulch as we went and kinda stay ahead. If it took me over the allotted time I had set for the mowing I would charge my per man hour rate after that. I let all my customers know that before hand.

I have a certain time allotted for my mowing charge. For leaves, once I pass that threshold it’s $1 per minute I’m there. So if I do an $80 yard and I go over the allotted time 25 minutes to get leaves mulched up, it’s $105 for that service.Thoughts?

Russell! Thank you so much for the feedback. We will make adjustments per your feedback. Our next batch will be 2.5 inches wide sir, most of the blades we make are. We'll have about 30 new blade specs ready for spring 2025 and will restock every spec we've sold out of also. You are a great resource for the lawn and landscape industry. I run our high lift wing tip blades in Northern Kentucky, cutting fescue. I also use high lift Copperhead and XHT (Fisher Barton Marbain Steel) blades. 'Gator-style' mulching blades do not leave a quality cut on fescue in my opinion. I would say maybe they turn the leaves into a finer dust than high lift blades but I'm not sure if that really benefits anything. We'd have to cut the lawn again with high lift blades after to get the lawn to look nice so it would just add time using them for mulching leaves if the goal was also to cut the lawn at the same time. We carry Lawn Crack brand blades, Copperhead, XHT/Predator, LaserEdge and Stens line of blades as well at iGoPro Lawn Supply. Our goal is to have the best price and get them to our customers quickly. I use ballard ripper blades as well. They last a good little while. I'm not sure how many hrs. I've tried gator, the toro brand gator style blades, the factory wright blades, and different high lift blades. None of them last like the rippers do for me. If i need to, i go over the property once with the green guard down and once with it up. Clippings virtually dissappear. Also, when mulching bush clippings, you can't even tell the clippings were there. They also turn leaves into dust. The search by mower feature on ballards website alone was enough to get me to give them a shot. I cut bermuda, centipede, zoisia, st. Augustin, and bahaia here in Augusta ga. I sharpen mine around every 10 hrs. I have 2 wright standers.

You’re the second person I’ve heard say this. I’m curious, before buying one, what if you replace the two rear bolts with Cotter Pins (just like on the hitch but smaller)? Then it’s not “permanently attached”. There’s also an easy disconnect jack attachment for the ramp rack. If you have that part, doesn’t that prove it’s not permanently attached? How about a Ramp Rack Sport model; that only attached with the hitch just like a trailer…surely that model counts the same as a trailer when it comes to insurance, right?

The All American Sharpener will take a smaller blade. Unscrew the handle all the way, Reverse the small end with the screws to the inside. Put it back together and it will work.
