Bangers that I know and love: Shaggy & Rayvon - Angel Shaggy & Rik Rok - It Wasn't Me Blu Cantrell - Hit 'Em Up Style (Oops!) Destiny's Child - Independent Women, Pt. 1 Dido - Thank You Eve & Gwen Stefani - Let Me Blow Ya Mind Jennifer Lopez & Ja Rule - I'm Real (Murder Remix) Train - Drops of Jupiter (Tell Me) Janet Jackson - All For You Alicia Keys - Fallin' See the problem is most of these songs have sentimental value to me so it's hard to judge them. But I do absolutely agree with what you're saying when it comes to production.
This year is a little better, for me. Alicia Keys is one of my all time favorite artists and Songs of A minor is a smashing debut. Fallin' is an S tier song, for me!
Fallin by Alicia Keys is truly one of a kind song.I absolutely love it!🤩Actually the way how I found out about the song was preatty sad but interesting. As I even wasn't alive in 2001,I obviously didn't hear it when it was at the top of the charts. But some 6 years ago during 9/11 anniversary I stumped on one video which described what was happening in USA in 10th of September just before 9/11.And one of the news was that Fallin' was released and there I heard a little snippet of a song and thought:"WOW!This is amazing!"😁Therefore I looked for the full song and since then I have always absolutely loved this masterpiece.😃
Drops of jupiter ranks alongside How you remind me and Don't stop me now as Alipan room 101 nightmares. - Meanwhile I blame Shaggy for ushering in the idea of blatantly lying
This year had its moments but its not one of my favourites. A lot of bad songs here. Unsurprisingly, LOVE the Janet Jackson song here. Alicia Keys is possibly at her best as well. Those two alone make me think this was a good group of songs. I liked the 112 song. Usher's was fine, not his best, but still better than most here. I'm not a big Destiny's Child fan (Beyonce in particular isn't for me), but they do have their good songs and this is one of them. The Stain'd song is really good. I remember liking it at the time and obviously Dido's song is excellent, and what an album she had! Let Me Blow Your Mind is also just such a song of its time. It works for me, too. Some groups and songs I can't stand here though. Train, Uncle Kracker, Lighthouse and Matchbox Twenty. Just all no. Don't like Nelly at all, either. Sometimes, I don't mind Shaggy, but both these songs are awful to me.
Looking down the list of 2001 there were actually tons of other great songs that didn't make the top 20 which is a bit of a shame! Interesting to see your approval of Staind considering your dislike towards Nickelback, Lighthouse and Matchbox Twenty, haha! Is there anything in particular that makes you like it? I'm just curious Uncle Kracker is a no, but Follow Me is an absolute YES! You should probably never go on a roadtrip with me because that song WILL be played at some point, maybe even multiple ones hhaha!
@@groot1421 I had a quick look and I see Incubus, Outkast and a Jennifer Lopez banger all within the next five or so songs, so you are right! I had the (mis)fortune of having a younger brother who got totally swept up in the Nu-Metal wave of that time, so I listened to a lot more of the genre than I probably cared to. There was a lot of bad stuff but I did try to find the good...and Aaron Lewis as a vocalist, is definitely it. He comes across as very sincere when he sings, and I liked that. Is "It's Been Awhile" as hard-hitting as something like "Outside"? Probably not. But it's still a good song. But yeah, when it comes to Nu-metal and anything else that used to play on Kerrang, you'll find me, almost entirely 50/50, fluctuating between hating what I'm hearing, and thinking that something is somewhat decent. I liked a lot of the groups that were slightly less generic more, so Korn, Slipknot, Deftones, P.O.D, SOAD....I could get on with them to an extent. Again though....this is REALLY not my type of music as a whole. 🤣
I will come to Shaggy’s defence here, It Wasn’t Me isn’t meant to be a song that encourages cheating or lying to your partner, Shaggy is the idiot here. He’s saying you should continue denying things despite the irrefutable evidence. And at the end of the song, Shaggy’s friend tells him as such and declares that he WILL confess his infidelity to his partner. Meanwhile Hit Em Up Style is suggesting you should steal someone’s credit card and spend all their money!
All the more power to him and his success but I don't think his message behind the song is taken into consideration when everyone's singing along to the tune at the club hhahah Hit Em Up Style hasn't really grabbed my focus lyrically but I'd personally rather sympathise with someone getting back at a cheater than the cheater in question hhaha
There are definitely a few songs that aren't quite shinning examples of humanity when you look a little deeper into the lyrics, for example in the second verse of Follow Me, Uncle Kracker sings about hooking up with a married woman! Tbf, we definitely should't take these things too seriously.
Oh absolutely... I guess it's just less distracting when these things are hidden in a verse rather than take up the entire hook of a song relying on its hook hahah!
Fallin' is an S tier here for me
When you are in a club and It Wasn't Me gets dropped it ascends higher than S tier! 🙌🙌
Fair point honestly...

I dont really care for many of these songs but I love Janet Jackson

Completely agreed! Still packs a punch today, truly timeless!
What lovely artists, I wonder which one of them got the number 18 spot on tomorrow’s list?

Oh no…
I have to be honest that I haven't really read up on his despicable behaviour and character.
He's unfortunately a recurring artist in these lists.
Sometimes you've just got to separate the art from the artist
I always try to do that. Sometimes people have an issue with it, but it is what it is

One man's room for nightmares is another man's room for joy?
This Mystikal man definitely lives in my hell chamber

You don’t want to know what the Waffle House is 😄, but if you’re curious, there’s a spot-on SNL sketch about it here on TH-cam!
Whatever it is, I'm sure "slapping up" in there is something note-worthy
