1975 is a nice year, for what it's worth. There's a solid mix of songs. My favorite of these is "Era"--it's so groovy and cool, and stands out amongst the crowd.

Germany with Joy Fleming should have won this year if it were up to me.

This is why I fell in love with ESC in the first place, the live instruments. It brings a different vibe, sad it’s gone nowadays. You can really feel the soul in the earlier performances compared to nowadays. Thanks for giving us a glimpse into what could’ve been this was amazing

Very anonymous year for me. Quite significantly weaker than the year before. But there are some gems here too like Norway, Turkey, Germany, Sweden, and Italy. Iirc I didn't even vote for Switzerland 😅

Lovely to watch your opinions of this quite strong edition of the ESC. There are several songs from 1975 that's easy to remember and the musical diversity were great. For me, the turkish entry was such a pleasant surprise to listen to during the watchalong and I think I still will rank it as my number one for now. Totally agree with your points for Sweden. To me, this is Lasse's best song, together with "Silvertråd". Thanks for a great Channel 🎉

I appreciated your breakdowns of Norway and Switzerland. Very interesting. (Grooty's word of the week is clearly "Lush" 😉) - My top 3 are NL, Germany and Italy - Putting NL at 13th is courting controversy, with me at least. Still, you do you! - Why do I rate Ding-a-Dong? - Because it talks of something fundamental. With the inevitable prospect of our own mortality we look to things to give our existance meaning. The most potent distraction is the pursuit of love. When that fails we can look to the wonder of nature, or the consolation of money to comfort us. The lyrics bring all this together and the solace within the musical movements and the warm harmonies create a depth under the surface froth of the lead vocal and the performance. I find this to be one of the most touching and resonant songs about the human condition ever to grace Eurovision. It makes me sad, but it also proffers a sense of resolution.

Well, this has to be the ranking I disagree the most with you, but again, 1975 is quite a strong year and I really love some of the songs. I understood your point of view of your bottom, even if Spanish being that low hurted me a little. My top 5 is: 5. Portugal 4. Spain 3. Germany 2. Israel 1. Italy

Got exactly 200 (76%)... Teams I got in full - Romania, Serbia, Portugal, Spain, England, France and Belgium Teams I almost got in full (only one or 2 players missing) - Germany, Italy, The Netherlands, Switzerland, Denmark and Poland

This was my first Euros (or football tournament in general) that I watched and followed (and to my surprise I actually enjoyed it and was pretty good at predicting the winners). I could name maybe 1% of players out of those 264 though. 😅The most memorable episodes for me are the Turkish own goal, Ronaldo crying, and the Denmark - Germany storm. I was also surprised at how badly England played, but somehow, they managed to win so many games.

I also thought it was a very average tournament, even though England made the final (somehow). Some very good goals, but I was unimpressed by some of the 'big' players, so many did not turn up. Mbappe, Kane, Ronaldo- all looked quite jaded. It was great to see some young players making their mark though, especially from the Spain team. I guess this tournament was just missing something. Sweden, perhaps? 🤣

In most tournaments the group stage is stodgy but then in the knockout phase things come to life. This year it was the other way round. Meanwhile Grooty, sort out your camera charging malarkey. You're a TH-cam veteran for goodness sake.😉

Absolutely; well, i would put Italy very close to ABBA, we can see, they are way ahead of their time, what a well-designed song! After visiting the history of Eurovision, to be frank i must say with the help of Groot, it's one of my favorite victories! Always wishing the best for everyone.

Abba is legendary ❤️ But the amazing progrock song from Yugoslavia just as good. And Spain had maybe their best entry! Love Israel too

For those are interested: Gigliola Cinquetti's Sì speaks of a mysterious erotic encounter, which explodes out of exultation of that overpowered backing vocals, and then ends the song with a long resting breath. Not for everyone!… *_*

I really appreciated your breakdown of the Yugoslavia entry. Very illuminating. My favourite is once again Italy, but for me the whole contest looks and feels thoroughly out of date. I actually remember watching ABBA win. The song and performance clearly stood out. They managed to straddle the oompah pah crowd and the contemporary glam rock fans all in one. You are right that it was an all-out crowd pleaser, especially weaving in a bit of European history into an existential tale of love.- Personally though, I find the song to be full of conceit. Bennie and Bjorn are smart guys who were belittling themselves and the audience by serving up this crass meaningless confection and then dolling up their girlfriends to look like traffic lights. They would argue that this was a breakout opportunity, and they took it. For me though there is no sincerity, just ambition.

1974 was a great year with a lot of beautiful songs. But my winner was Italy with the beautiful song Si sung by Gigliola Cinquetti ❤❤❤

What a great year ey?! One of the best this decade, along with 1970. I would be fine with anyone from that top 5 (even top 8 if I'm being honest) winning, but of course, ABBA is just on a whole other level. Good job as always! 🥰
