    This restoration could not be more text book perfect. You did everything right so as to conserve the value of the gun as an antique. One suggestion, use screwdrivers that fit the slot exactly, as using a narrower screwdriver could mar the screw.

    Im still impressed with your mechanical knowledge that you seem to know how to take anything and everything apart in just a few seconds. When i was a kid i used to drive my mom crazy taking apart the remote control to the tv and stuff and never being able to put it back together. Great video andre, that shotgun is a handsome devil.

    That stock and fore grip should be a beautiful rich red, you can see some of it on the stock still. If I were you and I’m not, this is just my opinion. I’d buy Myles Gilbert stock finish remover it’s a not a real harsh product so it won’t damage the stock and then submerge it in acetone until all the oil draws out, usually takes 2-3 days if the oil is saturated all the way through and it looks like it is. After the oil draws out let the stock dry for atleast 48 hours and then refinish it. They also make a tool to re-do that cross hatch pattern but I honestly kind of like the way it’s worn down it stays true to the age of the gun but you could do it and not take away from the value.

    • @Vangent87
      @Vangent87 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you’re interested in doing more with that gun or any other old guns there’s a TH-cam channel called MidwayUSA and the old guy there will teach you how to do everything from refacing the barrel to the breach or how to custom make springs etc.

    I recently started collecting old guns and one special gun in my collection is a mint condition AG42 Ljungman rifle. It has never been used and the stock have never even been oiled. My first question is should i save the gun like it is, without oiling it to preserve it or should i oil it? If i choose the second option what oil should i use?

    • @wholeNwon

      I wouldn't. The French made some really great guns that managed to survive the wars but they are rare. France, not Britain, was the great innovator in shotguns. That gun is not among them. Save your money.

    • @maxpanich8634
      @maxpanich8634 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      wholeNwon Well I went through the pictures like a month ago, and found a slight dent in one of the barrels, so didn’t risk it. But Lefaucheux had one similar to this. I’ll still try to find a similar model, with a underlever. In anyways, it’s already off the market. Saved close to 400 euros.
      Worst case scenario I could save up and order a custom one. But it is true, french guns were/are the best.

    • @wholeNwon
      @wholeNwon 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@maxpanich8634 Well, no longer "the best" but they did make some interesting guns and remarkable engineering. Granger is still excellent. Many of the older guns had short chambers and lack the extra heavy proof that you would want for a modern shooter. If you plan to use an old gun, measure the barrel wall thickness at several points to be sure it hasn't been honed excessively. Metallurgy of the past is nothing like today's and their fluid steel barrels aren't nearly as strong as modern ordinance steel. If a dented barrel is repaired (raised), it's no longer in proof.
