wowww, for 3 weeks I've search about true cinematic video using fujifilm, this one really inspiring. just using non ibis body & non stabilized lens, u create a really meaningful & visual aesthetic movie. thanks for sharing
Ben absolutely fantastic. Your use of low ambient light is captivating. You would think that a dimly lit, rainy, inside day would be dreary. It was anything but. It was so uplifting. I am looking to purchase that lens and was pleasantly surprised at how up close and personal you were able to get with it. I wonder if you could have gotten as if had not been focusing manually. I have a Canon lens that I often switch to manual focus in order to get closer.
Cheers Paul! Yeah, sometimes it's just about leaning into whatever conditions you're shooting in. This lens is perfect for that! And I agree, sometimes manual focus is the only way to go. I should add that I now shoot with this lens in auto too - it's a little noisy, but nothing too serious.
I love everything in your channel. So much Emotion in your captures. Just got myself XT4 :) Love see some tutorial, if you are willing to share. Keep up the Awesome work!
@@BenHolbrookWeddingFilms Hi Ben, I use it mainly for photography and sometimes for some short family videos, if it happens to be on the camera when something cool happens 😊. I don’t do that much video, interested to do more but just scratching the surface 😉
can the XT-3 track with its autofocus for example a moving vacuum robot? I have an old XE-1 in combination with the 35mm 1.4 and the video mode is terrible, slow AF and it pumps all the time. I need a camera that can track a moving object by tapping the touchscreen.
Thanks Dan. Firstly, the 35mm 1.4 isn't really good at focussing on any camera, though it works well enough to use on the XT3 and XT4. If object tracking is your thing, I'm not entirely sure Fuji is the best camera system for you. Maybe Canon would have something more suitable?
@@BenHolbrookWeddingFilms I could get a XT-3 for 700 Euro in a very good condition. Im not sure about it but i think its much better than my X-E1. The objects i need to track are moving really slow like a vacuum robot, some products arent moving at all. I hope the Focus is different on the X-T3 because with in case of the X-E1 the focus is pumping constantly and that destroys the video. Do you think those cameras can be bought used in case of warranty or are those models like the X-T3 more on the robust side? In your video you are changing the focus from distance to a closer object really fast, is that done by tapping on the screen? When i make a video with the X-E1 i dont see any focus crosshair or something like that on the screen, i only see that before i start the recording.
@@danbarb9728 I don't know, I'm not sure... My advice when buying any camera is to think very long-term. You might save a bit now, but long-term you will invest in whatever camera system you buy, so it's important to get what you actually need.
Lovely video. I am considering a 35mm from fuji as I only have vintage lenses serving me between 35 and 85 (35mm equivalent). I do have a XF6mm f1.4 which I love, for night video. Most of what I do is video so my question is: did you stay mostly at f1.4 in this video? what about ISO? many thanks.
This is sooooooooooooooooo niceeeee!!!! Question ; i saw your answer regarding the profile used. And this was Classic Chrome. But you also mentioned LUT. Did you apply a LUT for classic chrome? Hehe
Thanks Dan! Yeah, I just used the LUT straight over Classic Chrome. I always do it this way... Obviously you have to be careful with the levels/amount, but I like the looks I achieve. Doesn't have to be a LUT specifically designed to be used in this way - they all work!
A wonderful video! I have a question - I have a Fujifilm X-H1 and want to film myself teaching yoga for yoga tutorials (not moving around in a room, but staying on the yoga mat). Would you recommend the XF-35mm F1.4 R for this as well? The manual focus would work here too, I guess? Thank you for your opinion!
Thank you Julia! Yes, i theory the 35mm 1.4 would work perfectly in manual focus, as long as you have a suitable depth of field (such as f8 or higher). However, I would definitely think you'd be better off with a wider angle lens, such as the 23mm f2 (or even the new 18mm f2). Or just use the 18-55mm kit lens wide open at 18mm f2.8). Let me know if you have any other questions! :)
@@BenHolbrookWeddingFilms Thank you so much, this is so helpful! Now that I think about it, 23mm or 18mm makes more sense. Currently, I use 16-55 mm, but I think the kit lense may cause a reduced light sensitivity, which made me think to try another objectiv.
Great video! Did you use a shotgun mic? My 35 f1.4's noisy focusing is still loud even when I use manual focusing. I want to use it as a video lens as wel... Thanks in advance for the tip!
Thanks Joseph! Yeah, well I sued the Rode VideoMicro mic. The noise is still noisy in manual focus, but it's ok with a mic (especially if you have ambient noise and/or music).
Thanks Punnuf. No cage but I do have use the battery grips - the extra weight is really important to me for stabilised shots (I don't understand why everyone talks about wanting lighter cameras (for video) - the heavier they are the more stabilised the footage is).
Ben, Question. I just ordered an xt3 and decided on the 35mm 1.4r without checking reviews. I don’t use sound on my videos just add music in post. Not to worried it being noisy but how’s the auto focus when doing videos ?
It’s good! The issue is more that it’s not stabilised, and neither is the XT3, so you’ll want to be mindful of that if shooting handheld. But it’s one of my favourite lenses for sure!
This is so raw!! This lens really gives character to the video. Very cinematic.
Thank you Mark! Yes, there's definitely something very special about it!
I'll think I'll sell my 35mm f2 and get this used ! Woooow. Beautiful video and atmosphere. Did u use any spesific recipe or filmsimulation?

Loved it! What profile did you use for this?
Thanks again Andrew. This was actually Classic Chrome. I was toying with the idea of doing a "SOOC" video, but got carried away with LUTS and whatnot.
Awesome . What simulation was this ? was this in F-Log?
Hey, thank you! I think it was Classic Chrome :)

The 35f1.4 is well stabilized on body what have ibis.
I can imagine it is - it wasn't terribly bad on my unstabilised XT3.
Cool so it only shoots anamorphic. Thank you.

the video image is too poor, you need to fix it more
How would it be good to fix it to make it better? I want to learn
