The 2018 Goldwing was just released. The Yamaha is already in third place. If Yamaha listened to the customer and put a liquid cooled V4 in. And not put a Antique air cooled v twin in it. They could have given Honda a run for its money. What the hell were they thinking? Now. It's the new Honda Goldwing. 2nd. The BMW K1600GTL. Then the Yamaha. Hey Yamaha. If i wanted a air cooled vtwin. I have Harley and Indian to choose from.
I traded in a 2000 Goldwing as part payment on my 2018 Yamaha Star Venture. The Venture is one exciting bike to ride and own. I don't look over my shoulders for the Wing I left behind at the Yamaha dealership! That was a great bike...and served me well. The Star Venture, is doing exactly the same...
I like my Goldwing. It could use some updates. Electric windshield maybe. They also need to beef up some things like the rear passenger storage doors. Very cheaply made and tend to break off in time. Same applies to the side covers. They should have a window somewhere to check the oil level instead of having to take off the side cover. The kill switch is a week spot. If you use it regularly to shut down the engine it will give out. Its for emergency use only. The luggage should be able to carry more than 22 pounds a piece. I am quite nervous to use the chrome tie down rack on top of the rear luggage in case the fibreglass breaks. Floor boards might be nice instead of pegs. It would be nice to move your feet a bit forward when cruising. It would be nice to have a bit more range. Its hard to get 300 km before the tank is empty. They certainly dont handle like a sport bike but thats not what they are designed for. They are very comfortable on a long trip and quite stable at highway speeds and readily eat up many miles of highways. The wind protection is great and the heaters on the legs are very nice. Love to have the stereo and the cruise control is a must for long trips. The overall reliability is hard to beat and the seat is super comfy.
The Wing isn't perfect. Yes those side covers are a pain ; and I did bust an hinge on a storage compartment I had left open when I swung my leg over and that air filter is hard to get at. I have to disagree with the footboard though. Having owned Harley's I find the Wings foot pegs much better suited for Me. I've also stuffed way more than what the luggage rating is. You have to remember the reason that they low ball the capacity is more of a safety factor ; due diligence on Honda's side. I put a factory rack on my 04 and after being loaded beyond capacity and after 110 000 km no signs of cracks. Only electrical so far is replacing a halogen bulb.
I've done demos on both manufacturers. Honda dtc is a good bike for tall people. Reason I say this is im 5' 5" tall with a 27" inseam the seat height on a new 2019 goldwing is 27.5" laden. I can't use reverse.. they also stripped the bike of rider and no passenger small storage. Basically a spot for your wallet and a cell phone. Thats pretty much it. Now if you don't mind those two things and have a 30" inseam or more you'll be comfortable on a goldwing. Gone are the plush seats of yesteryear. Just a plane jane seat. Price. Expect to pay 32k for what the Yamaha venture transcontinental has standard at 26k. If you are short in stature you'll love the Yamaha. I can almost be flat footed. I can easily use the park assist on the bike. Transcontinental package comes with a dual zone heated seat and backrest passenger backrest is heated. All the full infotainment plus cb where Honda you have to pay 1500 extra for.. Now the cons of the Yamaha. Its air cooled. Meaning in stop and go trafic it will cook ya. Load caring capacity isn't as much but you have more storage. Figure that one out. The bike is heavy at 900+ lbs. Compared to the Honda. 2018 models are plauged with a front brake light switch failures and infotainment GPS quirks.. now to some good things. Its low rpm bike. Has gobbs of tourqe. At 900+ lbs. It doesn't act like a heavy bike can easily do figure 8's and circles in a parking lot. Is very responsive to input. Some say sport bike responsive. You are not stretched out. But you have tons of leg room to move around. Passenger has a full 2" more seat area. Passenger can make phone calls listenbto xm satellite radio mp3 i heart radio pandora or listen to files on their phone while you listen to the radio or cb or on a call yourself. Honda has no provision for that. The down side is you can't have Bluetooth headsets on Yamaha. Too much for the Bluetooth to process. Although I hear the 2021 you can have Bluetooth headsets now. IMO. hands down you get more bang for your buck with the Yamaha. Fully optioned out with every little thing Yamaha sells as options for the bike only bring the bike to just under 30k. Harley or Honda can't even touch that price for all the equipment. Bang for buck my money is on the Yamaha. No other manufacturer offers a five year unlimited mile warranty
Deux superbes moto, p'tite préférence pour la Goldwing, mais franchement, les deux sont géniales et surtout permettent de rouler décaler pour un public avertie et qui cherche pas forcément le "m'as tu vu" mais qui s'intéresse plus à la technique !
Stephen Smith I prefer buy those two bikes than 2018 CVO LIMITED EDITION but when I go to buy harley I probably buy 18 cvo limited edition becouse this is the best looking harley with nice finish painting and detailing. Why? Because rest of under harley line is peace of overpriced shit with basic look.
Little behind the times buddy. The new GW is unbelievable. Comparing apples and oranges. I respect Yamaha but I think they really took a step back by trying to copy an Hardly Dangerous.
I call bullshit on that one. The foot pegs on the Wing are exactly where they should be so your body position carries your weight on your butt and haunches not on your tailbone like a Harley with foot boards or worse highway pegs. I owned both makes and have ridden 1000 plus a day and there is no comparison
Nelson G: well, Im tall and the Wing is great first 150km, then its a real pain in the ass (literarily), the foot position alow just one posture and you need to change the pressure spots on your rear so you dont get soar butt, and that is no go on the Wing. Maybe if you are short guy its fine, dont know. V-Twin all day long over the GW.
I'm 5'10" and am much more comfortable over long rides on my goldwing. I've ridden the new Yamaha and Electa Glide and they are only comfortable for a short ride. I use highway pegs on my wing to change up the pressure points. I'm not a fan of sitting with my legs straight out like in a car, so I'll keep my wing.
Once you start moving on the Star Venture...it feels no heavier than around a 400-450 pound motorcycle. How do I know? I own one...as well as a 428 pound ride. They both handle the same...anything over 5 mph. The Star Venture has a very low center-of-gravity, and that is why they went with a air-cooled V-Twin...well, one of the reasons. It's a great bike...handles two 'healthy' adults and their gear for a two week vacation....and gives 41-44 mpg if you keep it between 60 and 70 mph while on the interstates, and that's two up! I owned 5 different year Goldwings..and they are a great bike, too. Honestly, one isn't 'better' than the other...for it's only what the OWNER of one, wants, and is looking for. That is only what should be the deciding factor, not my *** is bigger than yours! Ride what you feel, makes the best tour case, for yourself....
There's a lot of crap in the comments about which one is more comfortable. Comfort is a very subjective opinion. I've had sport-tourers, standards, and cruisers and to me, there's nothing more comfortable on a long haul than the cruiser riding position. It offers more adjustments to the sitting and leg position. If you Wing guys like the comfort your bike that's great, but to me, it gets old when you're in the saddle all day. Whatever floats your boat.
Randy Griffin the flat six liquid cooled is the heart and soul of gold wing. Vtwin air and oil cooled of the yamaha is no comparison. But looked good. I just love the gl power plant.
thats not a 2018 wing.. but even the old generation of wing should not be compared to a yamaha.. the wing is in a league all its own.. the yamy is more of a harley knock off., far more basic tech.. (outdated imo)
Uh huh like the reverse gear that no Harley has, standard 6 speed transmission, cruise control standard, entertainment system standard. NO chance to compare it to a Haley-Davidson for sure.
There is no comparison. The Yamaha is air-cooled and mostly will only compete for Harley riders. The Gold Wing is, and always has been the best touring motorcycle on the planet. After watching the release of the new 2018 Gold Wing, no other bike comes close.
I was leaning towards BMW 1600 in 2017, almost signed paperwork also, We test ride all touring bikes and nothing came close to beemer and then Yamaha came with new Venture, dealers in Midwest still don't have her on their floor. We're checking on new Indian Roadmaster, beautiful bike by the way and when doing that guy asked me,have you seen new Goldwing coming in 2018? My answer was NO of course, his reply was ,you should. From all videoclip s looks great, can't wait till see it on floor somewhere.
2018 Goldwing, down from 150 liters of storage to 110. 2018 Venture, 144 liters of storage. This is an important consideration for those of us that actually tour on a touring bike.
Is this a JOKE ??? You are showing a first generation Wing with a glimps of a 2015 Wing. Either you have a hard time with Goldwing or just trying to make us react. Still, the 2018 Goldwing is less atractive than the Yamaha which is less atractive than my 2012 Wing.
I was enjoying the Goldwing..then they added Apple Car Play. Never been a fan of Apple so as a consumer I would expect to be able to get whatever version of that Android has.
The Star Venture is an air/oil cooled motorcycle. That's why it has a dry sump...so the oil can get away from the engine....and by the time it loops back into the cases...has had a chance to shed quite a bit of the latent heat. The oil pathway is this...lines out to a massive 7 gang oil-cooler, than heads back past the engine to enter the top of the Oil Tank...which is also in the wind flow. From there...the oil travels out the bottom fitting line of the tank...and re-enters the engine/transmission. So, the oil has a long travel through the cooler, tank, and lines, for a chance to shed practically all the inherent heat, it was carrying, the moment it left the engine on the way to the oil-cooler just ahead of the front cylinder.
We will see in 10 years time & see which bike seems most dated. Who knows. By then indian might have a super touring bike , or quite possibly an electric revolution . Only time will tell.
having recently injured my back I can't imagine 40+old riders pushing 900LB bikes and not be effected.Seriously this is in car territory...I prefer lighter bikes
What a piece of junk that Yamaha turned out to be. If I wanted something that shook like a Harley, I would have bought a Harley. I took it for a test ride at the Long Beach Motorcycle show and couldn't get off of it fast enough. You'll notice there isn't many of them out there on the road.

You had your opportunity and didn't get one. See link.
You're right 100%. Nothing touches the new or last model Gold Wings. Yamaha dropped the ball here. And the Venture is no cheap bike.
Both bikes enchant me. I still prefer Honda, but I would ride with the happy Yamaha of life.
I traded in a 2000 Goldwing as part payment on my 2018 Yamaha Star Venture. The Venture is one exciting bike to ride and own. A lot of hate for Yamaha for some reason. They just made a bike. Both are dam good machinery.
I love yamahaq
Honda Goldwings is number one
What is the name of this song? Can we have the composer arrested?
POPPASHANGO
Lmao!😂
🤣🤣🤣🙏

Both are great motorcycles. I would urge both the giants to introduce equally great electric tourers on road very soon.
I've done demos on both manufacturers. Honda dtc is a good bike for tall people. Reason I say this is im 5' 5" tall with a 27" inseam the seat height on a new 2019 goldwing is 27.5" laden. Don’t you mean 2017 Honda vs. 2018 yamaha
Deux superbes moto, p'tite préférence pour la Goldwing, mais franchement, les deux sont géniales et surtout permettent de rouler décaler pour un public avertie et qui cherche pas forcément le "m'as tu vu" mais qui s'intéresse plus à la technique !
That front of Yamaha looks like Muscle Carrrrr ! Love itttt
Reminds me of a firebird
Because Mopar designed it.
Both better than overpriced harley 👍
Your Nightmare As a Harley owner, I have to agree. When does one ever stop pouring money into Harley upgrades?
Stephen Smith I prefer buy those two bikes than 2018 CVO LIMITED EDITION but when I go to buy harley I probably buy 18 cvo limited edition becouse this is the best looking harley with nice finish painting and detailing. Your Nightmare agree with you..
$24K for the GW is cheap?? My car cost less, has A/C and keeps me dry. And safe.
tbillyjoeroth That’s because you’re not a motorcyclist. Four wheel door slammers are for women.
Why do video makers have to inflict music on us..Expensive top of the line motorcycle video, injected with cheap synthesized music
its happy music to make you more happy
Makes you feel happy?? Its NOT REAL MUSIC, It's Elevator Music from Hell.
@@waynedepner8593 you need more happy music
@@Jodyrides lol your story is sad
Yamaha star adventure!🙋
Little behind the times buddy. The new GW is unbelievable. Comparing apples and oranges. I respect Yamaha but I think they really took a step back by trying to copy an Hardly Dangerous.
The problem with ALL Goldwings is that the most comfortable foot position is right where the sides of the engine are. V-Twin for comfort all the way.
I call bullshit on that one. Well M you can spin that tale to someone but not this fella. You should add another 0 to that 150. Experience is what matters.
Gold-wing gets my nod.👍
Me gusta la Honda
My point is for Honda Goldwing i like much ....... Saludos desde Colombia
900 pounds damn it, and I'm complaining about my 400lb r6 😂

I HAVE GOLDWING 2010 AND YAMAHA VENTURE 1987 NICE & GOOD MOTORCICLES..
I like the venture alot wish the trunk was bigger
Goldwing is better but it is very much costly. Yamaha star venture is a good choise for me...
There's a lot of crap in the comments about which one is more comfortable. Comfort is a very subjective opinion. I've had sport-tourers, standards, and cruisers and to me, there's nothing more comfortable on a long haul than the cruiser riding position. Silly. The Goldwing they used is pre 2012.
I think it’s around 2001-2016 virtually unchanged.
The Yamaha's Nice but it don't compare to the Gold wing.
Randy Griffin Yeah, the wing is heavier, can carry less, is governed at the ridiculous low speed of 100mph, and oh yeah, cost 3k more. No comparison
I've had my gold wing passed 130
Oh yeah and did I say no comparison
I like both actually. It would be a tough choice. But the Yamaha looks more comfortable and has more tech.
Randy Griffin the flat six liquid cooled is the heart and soul of gold wing. Vtwin air and oil cooled of the yamaha is no comparison. But looked good. I just love the gl power plant.

Compare it to the Yamaha Royal Star Deluxe. V4, shaft drive, water cooled, cruise control. Hardly a Harley!
Uh huh like the reverse gear that no Harley has, standard 6 speed transmission, cruise control standard, entertainment system standard. NO chance to compare it to a Haley-Davidson for sure.
Honda Gold Wing is the tour cruiser for pensioners or city music box for ponts.
Yamaha king of the bikes.. venture..yes yamaha
Noooup,HONDA is the #1 of the UNIVERSE
Gold wing all day !! Since victory is gone 😥. Victory was the best
The new 2018 runs away with this segment of motorcycles. Yamaha needs to be liquid-cooled, possibly V4. That a Raider engine basically.
Yamaha looks beautiful but remember Honda is always best
Honda Goldwing 👍🏍❤
Este video es para los amantes de las motos ..El video es exelente muy bueno quiero algun dia tener cuanquiera de las dos..
Neither of them will ever get close to the way a Victory Vision Tour handles...
Not true. I've ridden both and the Venture is every bit the equal of the Vision in handling and has way more tech.
Does the Yamaha come with a bungeed- on teddy bear option like the Wings?
There is no comparison. The Yamaha is air-cooled and mostly will only compete for Harley riders. The Gold Wing is, and always has been the best touring motorcycle on the planet. After watching the release of the new 2018 Gold Wing, no other bike comes close.

Yamaha is goood
Yamaha is much roomier and more comfortable for taller people. It would be great if it wasn't for that Briggs&Stratton engine.
Have you ridden one? It has plenty of power.
Yamaha looks are way nicer than the wing IMO
Love yamaha
Yamaha is the best
HONDA 😍
I would definitely take the Yamaha over the Honda
Air or oil? I will buy oil-cooled.
Honda goldwing bike is super
yuck that yamaha is hideous id rather have the new goldwing any day
should of put the v max motor in the venture more torque and horse power
It has 95 hp and 126 ft. lbs. of torque. It pulls like a locomotive.
The Yamaha looks better but air cooled ,really Yamaha????
We will see in 10 years time & see which bike seems most dated. Who knows. By then indian might have a super touring bike , or quite possibly an electric revolution . Only time will tell.
Yamaha memang yang terbaik👍👍👍👍👍
having recently injured my back I can't imagine 40+old riders pushing 900LB bikes and not be effected.Seriously this is in car territory...I prefer lighter bikes
Ruben Sahakian the Goldwing has electric reverse......no pushing required.
So does the Yamaha; reverse AND forward.
Jeff Ragar the Goldwing goes in reverse AND forward AND sideways AND can actually hop over stopped cars!
All motorcycles can go forward. It's called propulsion.
RoadRash, I was referring to the low-speed parking assist mode. There is a forward/reverse switch on the left handlebar.
Todo a su tiempo y a la vanguardia.

Mark Ortiz I test rode a Yamaha also, all I did was scratch my nose due to itching from vibrations. Total POS
What are you guys talking about? The Venture doesn’t have excessive vibrations. That’s a load of crap.
