I bet BB King in an elevator in Birmingham Alabama. I asked for an autograph and he said "Man i'm really tired right now, meet me in the lobby at 4;00 and bring your camera and anything you want me to sign" Later that afternoon i headed down to the lobby at about 3:45 thinking he'd never show up and when i got there he was already there sitting all by himself and waiting for me. He signed a few T-Shirts and we took some pictures together...how cool is that?
I went to a Gibson Guitars clinic in 1979, when they released their new active-electronics line. B.B. was the chief demo guy and three Gibson executives were in the back-up band. (Really) They jammed and it was pretty good, but the best part was when we lined up to get a autograph from B.B. I didn't want his autograph. Instead, when it was my turn, I asked him: "Can I see your hands?" He grinned ear to ear, held them out, and I held them in mine. I was holding history in my hands. Unforgettable.
You know there's some serious music going on when you can make Gilmour move. :) This video makes me smile every time I watch it. Two greats. Thumbs way up.
Awesome vid - a guy as amazing as David Gilmour dwarfed by the nuance of the king on Lucille - this is when you see what it really takes to be a great blues man - total humility, skill and above all heart - love you BB - love you DG… would have been humbling experience I'm sure.
Apparently bb king once said to gilmour whilst he was jamming some blues "you sure you ain't from Memphis?" Its something like that I'm kind of paraphrasing
WHAT A CLIP. NEVER EVER SEEN ÒR HEARD THAT. DAVE GILMOUR CAN PLAY THE BLUES AND ANYTHING YOU LIKE AS HERE WITH THE LEGEND B B. KING AND STILL RETAIN OWN UNIQUE STYLE. FANTASTIC ALONG WITH GREAT SUPPORT FROM JOOLS HOLLAND THE BAND.
I think this really shows David's modesty. He's having a good time just doing what he loves, being part of the band. If he had the rock star ego, it would have been effortless for him to send Bebe home in tears....
At this point, you aren't a real guitarist until you jammed with BB King, because damn, this man jammed with almost every legend of the guitar: David Gilmour, Slash, John Mayer, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Albert Collins, Eric Clapton, Chuck Berry, Keith Richards, and the list goes on. Truly a big loss as for the blues, as for the world.
Tom Coffin Led Zeppelin, Van Halen, Queen, Dare Straits, Quiet Riot "but only with Randy Rhoads," Dokken, Deep Purple, ecc.ecc.all with valid Groups Guitarists, but body hair Who makes me straighten is just Gilmour! .
So True!!! But anybody who doesn't Move to music like that Has to be deaf or something--Ya just Gotta MOVE to da GROOVE :o) This was So Awesome--Loved it a LOT!!! Thank You for Posting!!!
Well yeah probably I'm not quite respectful with the blues history by saying that. But I have heard that lick hundreds of times in hands of David Gilmour and every time I hear the first thing that pops into my mind is "GILMOUR", although I was practically sure he did not invent that hah. Thanks for the info.
Saludos
@frankiejl0012 Actually, it was written by Sonny Boy Williamson II in 1951. The Who's 1969 cover is one of many different covers of that song (but a good one nonetheless!).
I have wondered for a Long time why David Gilmour makes the faces he does while playing a solo--he is SO Handsome, but Man can he make some goofy faces--Drummers Always make goofy faces, but I never noticed a guitarist...till now. BB makes faces too :o) I think they just FEEL the Music So Much that they "sing the notes" in their minds. Any comments on this?? Ibtw, I haven't noticed DG's faces on Early floyd--must go check again--dirty job, but Somebody has to do it LOL
These kind of lyrics were around decades before the Who were in Potty training .DG avoided bending up to the 6th which is a BB king lick !. You don't want to start that kind of copy cat stuff ;-P

No pressure Dave, no pressure....

This arrangement Is an out cold blues song. The band is rocking it especially the horn section. Mr King RIP and Mr Gilmore are phenomenal.

King, Gilmour, so good... Soft touches, giving a note time to breathe...

@@oliverharket5049 Gilmour's playing was as nuanced and tasteful as B.B. King's. He really speaks the language.
David Gilmour & BB King covering Sonny Boy Williamson II! Pete & Eric & many, many others covered him too.
One of these men started the book on truly playing the electric guitar, the other one finished it.
Gilmour is one great among many greats, so... nah.
David Gilmours guitar playing works better in that context than I would dream it.
Yes, he is truly a blues man!

@curtisclark13 The man is great. He used to come into the record store I worked at in Vegas and was always very kind and modest.
I have wondered for a Long time why David Gilmour makes the faces he does while playing a solo--he is SO Handsome, but Man can he make some goofy faces--Drummers Always make goofy faces, but I never noticed a guitarist...till now. It takes a man like B.B king to changa a Who lyrics and we all find it nice. He is a monster
These kind of lyrics were around decades before the Who were in Potty training .DG avoided bending up to the 6th which is a BB king lick !. You don't want to start that kind of copy cat stuff ;-P
