This is a great video. The forums are filled with questions on how to link from the jails into the storage pools and get rid of the synching error of being unable to create directories in /mnt/... Your walkthrough was wonderful.

You jumped to portainer without any indication how to get there or context of what we're doing there. I'm trying to follow your guide here on a fresh install of truenas scale. you very suddenly lost me there.

Portainer is not needed at all for configuring it on TrueNAS scale. He simply showing the behind the scenes docker variables that are set for Syncthing. Syncthing runs as a container on TrueNAS scale.

Well, appreciate tutorial however, it's a little bit too much jumping from one thing to another and part of the screen is covered by your head which is not necessary helpful.

I will try to avoid to jump so much than. Let me know if i improve in my videos.

Terible tutorial. You start with Syncthing installed in TrueNas then you go back to a portainer instance of Syncthing saying you have to add the path there? Absolutely no idea what you are doing.

    • @sauberlab-uk
      @sauberlab-uk  ปีที่แล้ว

I'm sorry to hear that you found the tutorial confusing. It's possible that there was some confusion due to differences between the official Syncthing TrueNAS Scale plugin and the Syncthing container installed in Portainer. I apologize for any confusion that may have resulted from my instructions.
If you have any specific questions or concerns, please feel free to ask and I'll do my best to clarify.

Can you help me? After rebooting truenas with smb enabled, synchronization disappears. Error: Error response from daemon: invalid volume specification: '/mnt/wd 10tb/backup/sync:/sync': Invalid mount '/mnt/wd 10tb/backup/sync' path. Following service(s) use this path: SMB Share. I turn off smb everything is fine until the next TRUENAS reboot

It seems like there is an issue with the volume specification for your sync folder. The error message indicates that the mount path '/mnt/wd 10tb/backup/sync' is invalid.
One possible reason for this error is that there is a space in the folder name 'wd 10tb'. Some filesystems, like the default ZFS filesystem in TrueNAS, don't support spaces in directory names.
To resolve this issue, you can try renaming the folder 'wd 10tb' to 'wd_10tb' or 'wd-10tb'. Then update the volume specification for your sync folder to use the new folder name. For example, if you rename the folder to 'wd_10tb', the volume specification would be '/mnt/wd_10tb/backup/sync:/sync'.
After updating the volume specification, you can turn on SMB and try to sync again. This should resolve the issue with synchronization disappearing after rebooting TrueNAS with SMB enabled.

@@sauberlab-uk Thanks for the reply, but that's not the reason. I put it on another hdd, after turning on smb and rebooting it does not work. Many people write that this happened after the update that this happened after the update TrueNAS-SCALE-22.12.1

its safe prog?! so no hack and no track data or copy ?!

Syncthing is generally considered a safe and secure tool for syncing data between devices, as it uses end-to-end encryption to protect the data being transferred. The data is also not stored in any centralized servers, and can only be accessed by the devices that are part of the sync network.
However, as with any software tool, it is important to take proper precautions to ensure the security of your data. This includes using strong passwords, regularly updating the software to address any security vulnerabilities, and being mindful of the devices and networks that you use to access your data.

TrueNAS seems to have decided to actively make it impossible to have any useful documentation exist. If a video or document is more than 30 minutes old, there is a strong possibility that the interface has changed enough that the information is completely useless. Sure, this video, for example, still covers the concepts, but for someone still trying to wrap their head around the difference between a DataSet and a DataStore, it would sure be nice if occasionally the tutorial videos and screenshots looked like what we see in our version that may be 30 minutes newer or older than the material. The TrueNAS Core/Scale split is bad enough, but Scale alone is changing way too often and IMO the changes commonly aren't improvements necessarily, but just something one person may "prefer."
To be clear, I understand that this video is a year old, but the same stands for very recent content.
While I'm whining, can we PLEASE get a freaking file manager of some sort in the web interface, right? Isn't that something we would all like to have?

Sure, I can try to help you with that. Can you please provide more information about the issue you are facing?
What is the error message you are seeing when you try to join the Active Directory server?
Are you using the correct domain name and IP address of the Active Directory server?
Have you configured the DNS settings of your TrueNAS Scale server to use the Active Directory server as the primary DNS server?
Have you configured the time settings of your TrueNAS Scale server to sync with the Active Directory server?
Have you checked the firewall settings of your Active Directory server to ensure that the necessary ports are open for the connection?

Syncthing is considered a safe and secure tool for syncing data between devices. It uses end-to-end encryption, which means that only the devices involved in the sync process can access the data being transferred. Additionally, Syncthing is an open-source project, which means that the code is publicly available for review, making it less likely that there are any hidden backdoors or security flaws.
That being said, it is always important to use caution when syncing sensitive or confidential data, and to ensure that you are using the latest version of Syncthing with all available security patches.

looks like a good quality video. but, on a few videos, your FACE is covering up what your doing. And you're jumping around too much as if this is the 20th time youve done this. moreover, your english accent if very thick and its difficult to understand at the speed you're talking. could you talk in your native language and just let the captions translate?
