Oh but Charis, you MUST do a reaction to Alex LIfeson's speech at the Hall of Fame induction .. and understand the back story being that RUSH has been denied induction into the Hall of Fame for decades, while some of the worst "Rock" bands in the world were inducted before them. Fans have been pissed about this for decades. You have to see Alex speaking at their induction. It is beyond EPIC .. absolutely killer!
The complete induction ceremony is great, as many have mentioned! Their performance is spectacular as always! I noticed Alex was playing taurus pedals during Tom Sawyer. Geddy & Neil are always given credit for mutitasking on stage, but Alex does it too!
The drum decoration represents the tour they were doing at that time, in support of their 19th and final studio album, Clockwork Angels. It depicts a clock marked with alchemical symbols instead of numbers. It displays the time as 9:12, which in 24-hour time is 21:12, a reference to the band's 4th studio album, 2112. They used a steam punk aesthetic for all of the designs for Clockwork Angels.
The symbols on the clockface represent the following: 1:00 Brimstone 2:00 Purification 3:00 Mercury 4:00 Winter 5:00 Zinc 6:00 Sun 7:00 Aquarius 8:00 Essence 9:00 Neptune - also depicted on Geddy's bass on the Time Machine Tour and the Clockwork Angels Tour 10:00 Lead 11:00 Earth 12:00 Copper As early as the mid 2000s, Geddy was finding it increasingly difficult to hit the high notes that he'd written into their earlier songs, so the songs on Clockwork Angels were written in a lower key to utilize the lower end of his vocal range; top performance picks to demonstrate this include Caravan from the Time Machine Tour and The Garden from the Clockwork Angels Tour. Have a beautiful evening, and Rush on! 🎤 🎹 🎸 🥁 🎸 🐐 🐐 🐐
Rush basically used this induction ceremony performance as a warm up gig for their Clockwork Angels Tour. The first leg of the tour was completed in December of 2012. They took a break, and resumed the tour in April of 2013. Specifically, this performance was recorded on April 18th 2013, at the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles, and on April 23rd they played their first gig of the second leg of the tour at the Frank Erwin Center in Austin, Texas. Charis mentioned how much stamina the band seemed to have during this show - 5 days later they played their usual 3 hour set. After the Counterparts tour in 1993, Rush played all of their shows without opening acts.

The symbols are Alchemy symbols. It always reminded me of a cross of astrology, chemistry, and a dash of snake oil salesmanship. Although they're all pretty similar, Alchemist's would have their own symbols for different metals as well as astrological signs. If you have the time? Check out the guy who ran the RRHOF (forget his name) read off the people who are being inducted. When he says "and from Toronto." The audience goes CRAZY! It's pretty cool. Enjoyed the reaction 😊 Take care ✌🏻
I can only imagine most of the audience was blown away, I doubt many of them had ever seen Rush. As far as I know they never changed anything musically. Neil notoriously changed his drumming style late in his carrer with the guidance of a Jazz drummer. His style changed but he played everything note for note the same.

Raskulinecz also produced 2 Rush albums ('Snakes & Arrows'... and 'Clockwork Angels') Yes, singers and musicians have to step down the keys to songs when they perform at an older age... or slow it down a bit... Rob Halford of Judas Priest ... Paul Stanley of Kiss... and Sammy Hagar come to mind... If u watch AC/DC perform live in 2024, Angus Young (lead guitar) is 69... and Brian Johnson (vocals) is 77... and they have to tone down the speed and intensity from the AC/DC studio versions a bit. Foo Fighters Dave Grohl and Taylor Hawkins performed the induction. The speeches were amazing, as everyone will tell you, especially Alex who blah blah blah blah blah blah blah! Blah!
First of all, i love Rush and the Foos, so this always brings me joy. I come to you with a request to check out Jacob Collier. He has so many sides, and every one is brilliant. For a dip into his live performance brilliance, Little Blue from the Mahogany Sessions is absolutely spine tingling in the best way. From there, you can pick almost anything he has done and will have your mind blown again.

The album cover for Clockwork Angels has those symbols on it (the runes). I actually don't know what these symbols mean. I know A LOT about Rush but that is one thing I do not know, alas.
Please react to the whole induction starting with when they they were first announced to Dave Grohl's and Taylor Hawkin's inducting them and their induction speeches especially Alex's. As someone else said Alex's speech is performance art. Cheers
The following year, the band Yes was inducted into the R&RHoF... The musicians who inducted Yes were Alex and Geddy, as Yes were one of their greatest influences. Unfortunately, it took so long for the R&RHoF to nominate Yes, that one of Geddy's top bass influences, Chris Squire, had died.
They were 60 years old in this HOF performance. And yes, Geddy would struggle at times in their latter years. You watch some of their latest live stuff in 2015 and there were times Geddy was on his game and other times not so much. If God is nice to you (I see no reason why he wouldn't), you'll find 30 years old (when they recorded those songs) is different than 60 years old. Nice reaction Ms Charis!
Really, really needed to see the induction speeches (including the initial one given by Dave Grohl and Taylor Hawkins). Dave Grohl (on guitar) was first the drummer for Nirvana and then the founder of Foo Fighters. Taylor Hawkins (on drums) was first the drummer for Alanis Morrisette and then the drummer for Foo Fighters. The guy on the base was Nick Raskulinecz, who produced Snakes and Arrows and Clockwork Angels for Rush. PS - The Garden live in Dallas. The Garden live in Dallas. The Garden live in Dallas.

You finally mention their stamina. Dudes would play 3 hour sets i think, even when they got older and started to ache. Not even most modern groups do that kind of set.
