- In an exclusive interview with Mr Johannes Michels Co-Founder of the HyIron Oshivela Project
Mr Johannes Michels shared key milestones achieved in the development of the HyIron-Oshivela Project, including the successful installation of electrolyzers and the advanced kiln. These innovations mark a significant step in Namibia’s journey toward sustainable green iron production, laying the groundwork for the nation’s transition to a greener economy.
Explaining the role of these technologies, Michels emphasized how electrolyzers enable the production of green hydrogen, a critical component for reducing carbon emissions in the iron-making process. The advanced kiln, he noted, is a state-of-the-art solution designed to enhance efficiency and sustainability, ensuring the project meets global environmental standards.
Aligned with Namibia's broader goals of green industrialization, this project is a testament to the country's commitment to becoming a leader in sustainable development. With full-scale production set to commence in January 2025, Michels highlighted how the initiative will not only supply 200,000 tons of green iron to global markets but also position Namibia as a key player in the green hydrogen and sustainable steel industries.
