@@TacticalRifleman ... I agree. Happy Vulcan custom here as well. I have two slides for my G19, one with a regular 507C and one with the Vulcan. I was never really a pistol guy, but with these new optics and Karl's simple explanation, I'm interested. Karl the force multiplier strikes again! Merry Christmas Karl!🌲👍🇺🇸
The fact that I shoot with the exact reticle and sight Karl does, instantly makes me feel like I’m a better shooter. Key word, “feel”. Lol 😂 I didn’t say it was true! Thanks for the tip Karl, hope you have a Merry Christmas and a kick a$$ New Year! Can’t wait to see what you bring us in 2022.
This is the most SERIOUS and UTILITARIAN gun (tactical) channel on youtube. It's just great. I'm a big believer in having full knowledge of the CAPACITY of one's weapon -- and of practicing to be able to utilize that capacity. Decent, modern defensive pistols are capable of aimed hits at 200 yards, and if you're going to own and carry one, you ought to have done at least some work at long distances -- there IS the possibility that it could make all the difference. And you've done a GREAT JOB in showing the utility of the ACSS Vulcan reticle in that regard. I so deeply appreciate every video you've done. Thanks.
I agree. I'm always surprised at the number of people who go to the range and literally never practice on anything except a full size target at 7 yards
I've always been an iron sight guy. The past few months I added a micro dot on my carry, and holo on my rifle. It's been amazing. I don't think I can go back now.
LITERALLY one of the best Red Dot / retical pistol optic videos on the internet. I have been debating myself for weeks and months about which Red Dot to get, green dot, etc... Why 10MikeMike? 500+ Ft-Lbs... can't argue with hp.
Great advice. Thanks for sharing... We old guys that never jumped on the pistol red dot band wagon till our eyes went away need this kind of advice. I just bought my first pistol red dot. So I will take this advice to the range. I have two daughters that are on the paper with a pistol everytime out to 200 meters. The one brags she is good with a pistol because she is going to be a cop. I always remind her, she has put tens of thousands of rounds through firearms and that is why she is good.
Love that you’re doing this. Way I was taught in 70s. I use my snubby .38 out to 120 yds 🤣 Do start every range day w/it or 380 out to 25 yards. Not going on until 5 solid hits. Thank you very much Karl ! I really appreciate you Seriously , Thank you for your service to this Great Country , Merry Christmas , and May God Bless you always and keep you safe .
Great Advice 👍 you’re one hell of a Good Shot. I’ve never used the Chevron, but I think I’ll try it. Do you have a recommendation for a really good Red Dot that doesn’t cost a fortune? Also Thanks for your Service, I’m a Veteran too. And have a Merry Christmas.
The ONLY reticle I will recommend (for pistols) is the Vulcan, which is currently only available in the 507 made by Holosun exclusively for Primary Arms. An enclosed version is coming early next year.
Ok.... so I’m an engineer by trade... I geeked out one night with a ballistics calculated after I saw Shawn Ryan’s 36 yard combat zero video for ARs. Got me thinking what zero on a Glock red dot gives you the flattest trajectory out to 100 yards??? I was very surprised at the results. I tested them IRL and it worked, at least for me. I mainly use 124gr PMC for my Glock 19 and Glock 17. After chrono’ing the bullets and finding their BC, I plugged in all the data and found that a 7 yard zero is flattest out to 100 yards. Here is what I came up with... 7 yard zero = +2.5 inches @ 50 yards, -2.22 inches at 100 yards, -8 in @ 125, -16 @ 150 If you zero to 25 yards with 124gr PMC FMJ, you are about -10 inches at 100 yards. If you aim center mass you will catch the bottom of the silhouette target. I went to my my rifle range which has paper out to 30 and steel at 50, 75 and 100. With the 7 yard zero it really worked, I just put the dot center mass and I was always roughly within 2~3 inches of where I put the dot on the steel. It is pretty cool. Such a nerd moment for me at the range! Hahahaha Why is this important to me? Man, trying to zero a pistol at any distance out past 12 or 15 yards IS HARD!!! I can’t even see where I’m hitting. I have to rent a spotting scope or try and use binoculars and Jerry rig a bench rest for the pistol to keep it still and somewhat repeatable. Zeroing at 7 yards is much easier. One caveat, the ideal zero can vary a lot based on the bullet ballistic coefficient, velocity and height over bore. So YMMV a lot!
I was gonna comment on your post, until you add that last sentence. Great post and thanks for sharing. One thing I will add for others reading this post, is to always confirm your zero at distance (just like he did). Many never do, and just trust their "in close" zero, forgetting that it is to represent a zero at distance, his was roughly dead-on at 70 meters. However, if you don't check it at distance, any small error in close is greatly magnified at distance. TR.
@@TacticalRifleman ...exactly 100%. And I just listened to the Combat Story interview with Karl... Great interview!!! I hope Karl and the rest of the team do more interviews over time... all of you are national Treasures and your stories and lessons learned need to be recorded and shared for future generations. You guys ARE the next generation of John Stryker Meyers, inspiring the next generation of pipe hitters! Thank you to each and everyone of you at TR for your service, your sacrifices, and for everything you guys still continue to do for this country!! It is an honor and a pleasure to be in the presence of such greatness. My humble thanks and gratitude.
Oh, also one other thing I noticed... the velocity and BC of 9mm bullets from one brand to the next varies a lot. A lot more than I expected. And then you add defending / hollow point rounds into the mix and the variations are crazy!!! So one thing ppl need to keep in mind. You zero is really only for that particular type of round you used while zeroing. If you have a 7 yard zero with PMC 124gr FMJ and then you switch to Fiocchi 115gr FMJ, you no longer have a 7 yard zero on your handgun. Because the drag on the bullet and the difference in velocity, the Fiocchi bullet might cross your zero point at 6 yards or at 8.5 yards or whatever... and then the arc of the bullet is not what you are expecting it to be if you did the calculations for the Fiocchi with a 7 yard zero. Some rounds might be pretty similar to what you used for zero, others can be very different... and then switch to self defense rounds will change everything too... so the morale of this story, if you are going to use a handgun primarily for self-defense/concealed carry using self defense ammo, zero it with that ammo you plan on carrying with. Don’t use range ammo. If you plan on using a handgun for classes or competition or whatever range use you want with cheap FMJ, zero with that ammo. And of course, check and confirm your zero every few months, especially on a self defense or duty handgun.
New insight for me. I thought 50 yards was extreme on a stationary target with iron sights. This has only confirmed that I'm behind in tech. I will have to pick one of these up, and not count so much on feel, and familiarity with my pistol. The sighting info was useful, and lol yeah that steel gets real small real fast. Thanks so much, Karl for entertaining, and teaching in a real practical way. I cannot get enough, my friend. Merry Christmas to you, and yours. As always looking forward to the next one!
I'm happy I now know how parallax can come into play during long range pistol shooting. I would definitely associate it more with rifles that have magnified optics.
Great video and instructions, very well done! I am picking a new piece with a Vortex Venom mounted on it tomorrow so I am excited! I have not used a red dot on a pistol, only my rifles and shotguns...ye ha bro
Just got back from her first lesson. And we implemented three things I learned from you all. And she did Great! The instructor couldn't believe that was her first lesson. Her stance breathing and squeezing the trigger. By next year I will be sending her your way. She was using a Canik METE SFX. She tried four hand guns. And picked that one. She thought it felt more comfortable. Her first two was died size and kept it in the one and had four in the two. At twenty five. The new target at fifty and she had seven in the two and the rest in the one. Ten clips on each target. The first target had seven doubke loads to start . So she could get used to loading and racking. With checking each time making sure the weapon was unloaded. So she would get those first steps down. She was shown once how to do each step. Then had to repeat it with fake rounds then went into the range to do it with live ammo. Proud Poppa!
Thanks for this video! I've been thinking a lot lately about transitioning to an optics setup. Now I just have to figure out how to decide between the ACSS Vulcan, Trijicon RMR, and the ACRO.
If the Vulcan was available in an enclosed optic like the ACRO, that is what I would use on every pistol. However, right now the Vulcan reticle is only available in the Primary Arms 507.
Good video.Yup it's possible.I tried two mags from my Glock 43 at 100 yards at a B27 and put 8 of 13 on the target. 7 were good center hits. I don't know what shots hit when, maybe I got a different sight picture when I changed mags? With my eyes sight picture is a joke anyhow, they are a nearly complete blur!
Good video and great timing! I just bought a Sig P365 XL and put a Holosun 407k on it. I'm really enjoying the red dot and have no trouble finding it. I was pretty accurate it with it until I got out to 25 yards and then....I was much less accurate. Now I know why. Thanks Karl and Merry Christmas to you and yours!!
No bullet drop at 100 yards ? I’m thinking of getting holosun for my mr920. I’m thinking 25 yards zero. If I was to put 25 yard. Zero. On the front sight post at 100 yards. With there be bullet drop ? Would I have to up hold. Up to any one with input thank you
Excellent! Merry Christmas to you and your family Karl!! Just remember that the shooter is liable for every bullet going down range, if you are not sure that you can hit the target - don't shoot!
@@TacticalRifleman thank you for making these great videos. I’ve already watched a dozen or so. Quick question if you don’t mind. I’m getting ready to purchase an RMR for my Glock 34. Which MOA do you recommend? I’m between a 1 MOA and a 3.5 MOA. My shooting skill level is advanced. I just haven’t switched over to red dots on my pistols yet. Thank you!
Actually, I will ONLY recommend the Vulcan reticle for any combat pistol. It is currently only available in the Holosun 507 and 509. The inventor originally offered the design to Trijicon, but they said no. Their loss, because the Army is screaming for this reticle in an American made optic. It is literally all I will run. I did a video on it you can find in our video archive. It will fit your RMR mount and is lower priced than the RMR. Notice I didn’t say cheaper… it is better built , as much as I hate to admit it. All my RMRs are broken. Thanks for watching, TR
When we talk about 25m shooting, people usually thing it's human size target, when on the other side, some like police practice it with head size target.
Is the "dotting the i" with the irons and RDS still possible with irons that are very low BUIS? I have like a lower 7/8 cowitness just to keep the irons out of the optic window as much as possible.
I don't know your setup. However, YOU can test it yourself without firing a round... can you "dot the I" with your red dot? If so, you are good to go. If not, you can at least use this technique for double checking your windage.
@@TacticalRifleman Ever since watching your video on this I've been aching to go to the range and try this out. I can get consistent shots at 50 yards on a 10" plate with my pdp but when stepping to 100 it's like 1 out of every 5 or 6 shots. Thanks for the tips and inspiration!
Try this next time you run a RDS class. Line up the class at about 7 yards. One behind the other arms length. Guy in front has two shots to hit target. Once he hits it, he goes to the back of the line. If you miss you’re out. Last man standing wins. We got to about 110 yards at a RDS class at the Sig Sauer Academy. Fun. Merry Christmas!
We already do this, but we start at 20 meters with 5 shots. We did a video about the drill, that you can find in our video archive. Thanks for watching, TR
Hey karl which magazine pouch do you recommend for a special forces operator Nylon with flap Kydex Nylon with bungee cord List goes on What is it please explain reason also anyways thanks for helping us learning
All of the above. Rifle & Pistol both. Your speed reload pouch needs to just have kydex friction. The rest all need to have positive retention, like a flap or bungee, so if you fall on your face all your mags don't go flying (only your two speed reload mags).
Wow I'm gonna have to reassess my red dot. I've placed it below the post on the actual front post dot.(the circle on the front post). It seems when I do lollipop the dot my shots are low. The POA is not the POI. Mr. Carl, do you have to remember a hold over when lollipoping the red dot on suppressor height front post?
I have a question. I'm 14 years old and I have been very interested in firearms for a few years. I have some experience with Firearms mostly the M18. I would like to know which courses I can take. I would like to be competent in using a firearm. I've gone to a course at my local range, Ann Arbor Arms, as well as having some private lessons but there's only so much you can do indoors. I don't know if tactical Rifleman's pistol 101 would be the best fit. I've never drawn from a holster or even know what holsters could work for me due to my small stature, baby hands, and left-handedness. I'll take any advice anyone can give.
It is. I sit the base of the chevon on top of the front sight post. Then aim with the tip of the chevron. That is NOT what the Vulcan manual says to do, but it works for me because I zero a 100 meters... allowing me 130 meters hits.
Personally, I find shooting 45 acp much more comfortable than most, if not all other rounds, out of my XD45 Tactical. I think natural comfort is important to consider.
Excellent information I've heard nowhere else. Thank you for the video 🙂 glad I found it when I did. Now all I need is to win the lottery so I can get more ammo to practice. Social security sucks when you don't have another source of income.
Pick up a Taurus tx22 or something similar in 22lr to practice with. It’s cheap shooting and I cant believe how reliable and accurate it is for a Taurus!
A veteran with 20+ years tells you there are no gimmicks, just master the basics. Thanks Karl and crew.

Just remember that the shooter is liable for every bullet going down range, if you are not sure that you can hit the target - don't shoot!
Excellent block of instruction! I love the logo! Nous Defions

Thank you for your service. Strength and Honor, TR
Is there a specific ammo that performs better at 100 yards? I’m using a Glock 9mm and 10mm.
I just shoot normal training ball ammo
This was excellent , do you know a good reputable place to get a Glock slide milled?
Please don't mill your stock slide... too easy to mess it up. Just purchase an after-market slide already milled. Just as cheap.
Amazing skills! Congrat!!
Thanks for the visit
What beginners pistol classes would you recommend?
Find local classes and master the fundamentals. Then, sign up for our Combat Pistol 101 course. Note though, that it is not a basic pistol course
Thank you!
Is it better to use ball ammo or hollow points when shooting at long range with a pistol?
Does not matter to me
Good video.
Merry Christmas. Do you happen to have a discount code for freedom munitions?
Sorry no.
Thanks
Thanks for watching, TR
Sir till how many metres range for u shoot
Try this next time you run a RDS class. Line up the class at about 7 yards. One behind the other arms length. Guy in front has two shots to hit target. Once he hits it, he goes to the back of the line. If you miss you’re out. Last man standing wins. We got to about 110 yards at a RDS class at the Sig Sauer Academy.
Fun.
Merry Christmas!
We already do this, but we start at 20 meters with 5 shots. We did a video about the drill, that you can find in our video archive. Thanks for watching, TR

Here is the link to the video he’s talking about
@@thedonuteater5474 Thank you. I’ll check it out.
@@thedonuteater5474 Similar. Ours was more of a contest. 10 guys. A lot easier with RDS at the longer distances.
And let's be clear...it's not as easy as he makes it look, he's darn dangerous with that tool 😂😂😂
Hey karl which magazine pouch do you recommend for a special forces operator
Nylon with flap
Kydex
Nylon with bungee cord
List goes on
What is it please explain reason also anyways thanks for helping us learning
All of the above. Rifle & Pistol both. Your speed reload pouch needs to just have kydex friction. The rest all need to have positive retention, like a flap or bungee, so if you fall on your face all your mags don't go flying (only your two speed reload mags).
Wow I'm gonna have to reassess my red dot. I've placed it below the post on the actual front post dot.(the circle on the front post). It seems when I do lollipop the dot my shots are low. The POA is not the POI. Mr. Carl, do you have to remember a hold over when lollipoping the red dot on suppressor height front post?
Nope
I’m just a guy from the 1990s I can’t comment on this video. But I can do it for the algorithm
Funny stuff
Good video
I love when the "v" is on top of my post.
Our Combat Pistol 101 course is NOT a basic pistol course. You need to be proficient with the pistol before you attend.
Is there any courses you would recommend for a beginner
Find a decent local instructor to teach you the basics.
at 14 years old you are meant to be planning for your future as you are preparing for high school not thinking about firearms!!
Thanks Karl. 1 question . I thought the peak of the chevron was point of aim??? OK, I see what your doing. Thanks for the answer and Merry Christmas 🎅
It is. I sit the base of the chevon on top of the front sight post. Then aim with the tip of the chevron. That is NOT what the Vulcan manual says to do, but it works for me because I zero a 100 meters... allowing me 130 meters hits.
@@TacticalRifleman you’re doing 130 meter pistol shots too!!!! We need a part 2 video!!!
How does Nick hold that camera still and hit that Cowbell at the same time? 😁😪😁😪 Merry Christmas!! 🎅
Gotta have more Cowbell!!!
Personally, I find shooting 45 acp much more comfortable than most, if not all other rounds, out of my XD45 Tactical. I think natural comfort is important to consider.
Yeah my 44 mag is more comfortable than my glock 9mm…
Excellent information I've heard nowhere else. Thank you for the video 🙂 glad I found it when I did. Now all I need is to win the lottery so I can get more ammo to practice. Social security sucks when you don't have another source of income.
Thanks for watching, TR
Pick up a Taurus tx22 or something similar in 22lr to practice with. It’s cheap shooting and I cant believe how reliable and accurate it is for a Taurus!
