Facts. I have like 40+ shortboxes I'm getting rid of and you were dead on when you said Spidey/X-Men/Bats would be the only ones that'll sell. Rather than trying to sell my whole collection outright I'm putting them out there as character or story arcs. No one's gonna drop a few grand for a whole collection but they'll drop a few bucks for 5-10 books. Slow and steady empties the boxes. Great vid as always!
Smart retailer is going to find the books he can turn over in a month or two, offer you 50% of fair value on those and take the rest for nothing. One thing a retailer never runs out of is backstock. Once you have your stores stocked and a warehouse full, that stuff has no value. Buddy had a lifelong customer bring in what he thought was $60K value. After hours of flipping through books, he told him to go elsewhere because the difference between what the customer thought his collection was worth and what it was actually worth would have caused a big fight. Not worth it. Talk to your store every week if you want to stay current on the value of your collection, and remember that retailers only pay over 50% for stuff they have a buyer already lined up for. Retailers don't collect comics.
They should have sold this back in 2021~2022...they missed the boat. Now they get 10 cents a book. That is what an LCS will offer. They are on the dock watching the money off in the horizon. It's the tailings.
I'd be kinda interested how the seller came up with 13k as his price. I think the guy was kind of a hypocrite. He stated that he wasn't going to break up the collection? Yet, he already sold some of the high grade keys in previous listings?
There are a lot of small, local comic con's in every major city. My city and the surrounding towns have two a month. Bag and board your collection, put a price on each one, pay a $100 for a booth, and spend a weekend having fun meeting with like-minded collectors who are buyers.
