  • I finally officially finish my 2023 section paddle of the Mad River! This was a 14.5 mile section from Lippincotte Road just South of West Liberty to State Route 55 in Urbana. A suprise guest joined me for dinner over the fire and shuttled my truck for me with his towable Jeep.

      I absolutely agree with all of that! My seat is starting to fall apart a little bit, so I’ll either need to find a replacement seat eventually or I might shop around for another similar type to try out

    Love your videos man! Would you ever consider doing a review video for the best Kayak Camping Kayaks, talking about features, how well they are balanced, etc.?

    • @jasonwish-
      @jasonwish-  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks Michael! Yes, I plan to put together several kayak related videos over the winter. I only own two kayaks though so it might be hard to talk about the different styles but I will certainly talk about what I would look for in one. I may try to do a collaboration with some other big kayak channles that own MANY kayaks...that would be the best way for me to check out the different styles and features.

    Great trip video bud! It was such a great weekend to get out. I remember I had just gotten back from a one night backpacking trip from Spruce Knob when I saw your livestream start and I was like “live stream what is this?!” Glad I was able to catch a bit of your first one. I seem to rarely be able to catch them but looking forward to more.
    At least a section of Mad River is on my must paddle for 2024.

    Here we are Nov 7th and it is 65 degrees.
    Thank you for all the detail of the put ins and take outs. There is a great map of the Mad River that has mile markers. In addition to your videos, I found the map really helpful.
    I did an over nighter Lippincotte to Huffman Dam. I tried to put in at West Liberty Park but the water level looked too low.
    Appreciate the video.

    • @jasonwish-
      @jasonwish-  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      A majority of the year, putting in at West Liberty is a great place to start if you want those extra 5 miles before Lippincotte. There are the normal few spots where you will drag bottom but I've never had to get out of my kayak. It's a great river close to home for me and after thru paddling it twice and running several sections dozens of time I know it pretty well and have mile markers on my Gaia app on my phone which is very helpful when planning an overnight. I would be interested in seeing this map if you have the link to share? Thanks for watching!

    Watching this Mad River Series you put together and it is both informative and cool. Do you know if you can overnight park at the 296 put in /take out?
    Thank you Jason!

    • @jasonwish-
      @jasonwish-  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I'm guessing here, but I doubt it is legal, but I'm sure many do it. I think there is a small state owned plot there where the parking area is so at least it's not tresspassing on private property if someone was to camp there. Glad you enjoyed it! Currently working on putting together the entire thru paddle into one short video.

    • @jasonwish-
      @jasonwish-  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks! It's less than three miles from Lippincotte to 296 so normally less than an hour, and it's a bit over four miles from 296 to 36, so maybe an 1.5 hours typically.

      A friend and I went from 36 to 55. Didn’t realize how fast the water was we did it for the fishing and had never floated so we spent about 4 hours 😊 no fish ☹️ water was super clear and average about a foot the whole way.

      @@tomfoster894 my favorite section is right after 55 to either Eagle City Rd. or to Springfield, after that many sections get slower and dirtier.

    What type of kayak do you have? It obviously has plenty of room and must have a higher weight/capacity rating for you & your gear.

    • @jasonwish-
      @jasonwish-  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That is a Perception Hook 10.5...I bought it new off of FB market place about 3 years ago for $400. I think they are about $600 retail and they make a none fishing version of the same kayak. Its the perfect size for me, with ample space behind my seat, which is very comfortable in my opinion, and the right size holding area in the back for a backpack with all my gear. I like the length of this kayak for those smaller rivers with lots of twists and turns but tracks really well in larger rivers as well. It is a very stable kayak compared to my old cheap pelican. In the nose I have attached a small cargo like net up underneath for stashing small items that I want to keep dry and not touch the floor of the kayak. I don't know the weight capacity right off hand but it carries my gear and food for a 5 day trip no problem and I'm 175 lbs.
