My outdoor adventures of backpacking and kayak camping. I grew up on our Ohio dairy farm, spending most of my free time in the outdoors camping, fishing, hunting, riding dirt bikes and building forts. I feel fortunate and blessed to be living and working on the family farm, with lots of wide open spaces. I have always loved to travel and explore God's creation whether it be in Ohio, around the U.S. or in the Caribbean, and backpacking has become a new passion that began in 2016. Videography and editing has always been enjoyable to me, and archiving my adventures on TH-cam is the perfect way for me to share them with friends and family. I hope you also enjoy watching them as much as I love producing them.
Solo Kayaking and Campfire Cooking on Ohio's BEST River
With the fields being too muddy to farm I decided to enjoy an afternoon and evening paddling on my favorite Ohio River, the Mad River. I put in at Lion's Club Ball Park in West Liberty and paddled 12.6 miles to US 36 in Urbana. Also in this video, I point out the SR 245, Lipponcotte and SR 296 put ins and Lipponcotte Canoe Livery, which opened on May 18th.
At the end of the day a friend meets me at my take out for fried green tomatoes and steak over the campfire before going live on my channel to make a big announcement....link to the livestream is below.

It was a beautiful day for a trail race and glad I had the opportunity to volunteer for the SEOTR (South Eastern Ohio Trail Runners). Photo credit for the r...

Best Budget Kayak for Camping and Fishing - Perception Hook/Sound 10.5 Kayak Review
มุมมอง 4.6K3 หลายเดือนก่อน
After 4 years of kayak camping on 18 different rivers in my Perception Hook 10.5 with over 500 miles of paddle time, I'm ready to give my full review. The Hook Angler 10.5 is basically the same kayak as the Sound 10.5 minus a few options that I will discuss. This is a great budget friendly kayak that is just a step above other lower end entry level recreational kayaks and is perfect for the beg...

I return to Myakka River State Park to attempt the entire 32.7 mile loop (actually closer to 37?) in one day while on vacation in Sarasota Florida. I have not had good luck on this trail. I didn’t get notified about this video
Another great jason wish video 🎉🎉
Love it. Keep it comin We are out on the auglaize today ✌🏼
Hi jason. May you do more video of how this equipment is installed, used, pto/hp you use. I do want one but not sure if my tractor can
Man don't know why didn't get the notification but I can't wait for the series on New England! As that would be a wonderful trip for me and the wife! Great to see you relaxing and I appreciate the farm videos!
No worries, I enjoy going live on my kayak camping trips, just something a little different. Yeah I can’t wait to go to New England, and the best part for me is knowing that when we go, the farm will be completely closed down and I’ll have no stress about what’s going on back home ha ha.
Hi Jason, I'm camping in Mio this weekend. Did 10 mi on the au sable today, gonna do 10 more tomorrow. Up to almost 100 miles total. Thanks for the videos and inspiration. Ps, my buddy uses the same kayak as you. Jim
Have a great time, love that area!
Is there a business near that maybe don't allow folks to smoke so they go out there on there break?
Hey Dan, I’m not sure what you’re referring to? I’m guessing I filmed something with people smoking somewhere? I just don’t recall, sometimes these videos become a blur in my mind after a certain amount of time.
@jasonwish- right it was where they were parking near the side of the road and you said they just sat there staring at there phones. I think you were baffled as it was just a side road with a view of nothing. Signs said day time parking only as I kept watching it might of been near a college. Ya it's an old video.
@@danrussell9207 Oh now I remember...yeah that was very odd.
Loving these videos! You thought about making your own meals dehydrating them? Agree the prices are crazy high for them.
Absolutely, actually, I would freeze dry mine, my brother has two commercial freeze dryers for his Candy business, I just never take the time to do it and since I do long backpacking trips so infrequently, it’s not that big of a deal to buy a few meals here and there I guess.
awesome vid!
Thank you glad you enjoyed it!
The narcissism is incredible! SHOW THE TOWNS NO ONE CARES ABOUT YOU!🤣
It’s not narcissism, this was filmed many years ago for my very small subscriber base at the time that liked to watch me Vlog my adventures of backpacking and we decided to go on the RV trip and the video just happened to takeoff. It wasn’t originally intended to showcase all the mountain towns, only my experience in these places.
I did the entire trail as a teen. I grew up in the Ocala National forest. There are some very interesting things at night.
Awesome. I’m hoping to come back down this winter and start section hiking the entire trail
I love it myself! Just recently purchased the sound due to Wishbone's review 10.5 and it's nice! Cup holder for sure is a pain but overall great boat, looking forward to doing some river camping in it
Glad you’re enjoying the perception kayak, I’m taking mine out for an overnight trip in a few hours from now! Like I mentioned a prior comment, no one has called me wishbone since high school and I don’t have a trail name yet as a backpacker, maybe I’ll take the name wishbone ha ha
Very nice, me and the onepaddlekayakadventures crew is hitting the auglaize river right now@@jasonwish-
The Buck Creek stretch from the reservoir to mad River is definitely passable. There is a couple shallow spots, but it is very fun. There are some rapids as well for kayaks. Highly recommend it.
I’m sure I’ll get to it one of these days. I’m actually going to be floating by that today, doing a quick overnighter from Eagle city to Spangler.
I'm fortunate to been raised and live in the adairondaks. I didn't get into it until my 30s but I so appreciate it now and I'm on the journey to all 46 HP. I'm have bagged 100s of other trails all over not one the same and all beautiful
Definitely a gorgeous place to grow up! I can’t wait to come back and show some of the area to my wife. I’ve backpack many trails in 13 different states and one that’s on my shortlist is the Northville Placid Trail.
I am finding this channel through the Farm channel! Cant wait to catch up on this one now!
Oh no, you went down the Jason Wish adventure rabbit hole 🤣 Enjoy!
@@jasonwish- I will enjoy it! I really want to get into Kayaking but I am big dude trying to find someone with one I can try before buying has been a struggle.
Why-ya bald. Mother nature's way of thinning out the forest
21:29 People cutting down trees in the campground. ☹
Yep, it’s inevitably going to happen at busy campgrounds, I’m even guilty of doing it myself before, but it will never happen again that’s for sure
I love your videos, Just fyi, it is against the law to Harass wildlife in Michigan. Film them, but don't make a game out of chasing them.
Where in Oscoda did Carlisle leave your vehicle?
At the marina. I actually just stopped in and talked to them last week while up there on an RV trip with my wife, great people and they will take good care of you if you need a car spot.
@@jasonwish- Thank you for the quick reply ... your part 1 video is the second video I have watched about this river ... and I'd like to do the Grayling-Oscoda trip. I will subscribe and look for episode 2 on your channel.
@@damkayaker I would love to come back and do this trip again. Here is part two: th-cam.com/video/jwnnK6aFuas/w-d-xo.htmlsi=mOCIhLhJf4th55Kj
@@damkayaker I just added the other three episodes in the description of part 1.
Pretty sure tannerite is a rapid expansion of carbon dioxide. Which fire doesn't like
it was shot with high powered rifle
@jasonwish- yeah I know how tannerite works. What I meant was the vapors produced from a tannerite explosion, I believe are co2. I'll check that right now. Co2 and fire don't work together
@@jasonwish- the explosion creates water vapor and sucks away oxygen. Which is probably why the fuel didn't ignite
“ I hear gunshots “ so anyway here’s my tent 😅 nerves of steel
Ha, man I don’t remember the gunshot part, I’ve filmed so many videos from all over the place that sometimes they all become a blur in my mind
Came from the future 2024 😊 I was wondering if you were filming with your kids.
Wow, you found a real oldie probably 2015 or 16. All of our kids are grown and out of the house now ages 21 through 23, lots of fun memories!
What's the cost?
This was many many years ago but back then I think it was about $4,000-$5,000
@@jasonwish- Thank you.
Great work on your channel Jason. It's been a great resource for me to plan my own kayaking trips! If you could also put CFS in your description that would be great as there's not a lot of info out there for the less frequently travelled routes. Keep up the great work! And I'll have to find a way to get my hands on some of your sweet corn this year.
Yeah, that’s a great tip, now that I have quite a following on my kayaking adventures I will definitely try to remember to add the CFS in my descriptions. I think I’ve only done it once and that was on the Kokosing River in Mount Vernon. And sweet corn is just about ready, we’re hoping to start picking next week around July 4.
Newland is a great little town
Thanks, I added it to my growing list!
Tip: next time you’re getting out at 36; either get out before the bridge (there’s a nice easy path for getting canoes and kayaks out) or go over the dam as there’s another easy path out
That’s some greasey rich soil. Keep it up
Well thought out. 🥾👏💪🏽🙏
It worked out fairly well, but have definitely modified things quite a bit over the last few years… it’s definitely a learning process that continues to improve with experience.
I would definitely not do this. I’d be seriously concerned that using the planter like that could bend something. Great that it worked, but my sphincter would be sealed up tighter than Fort Knox!
Great job!!
Wedding anniversary tour with no wife present !? Is she cut up in pieces in the cooler , or are you married to the dog ?
not everyone likes to be on camera
This is what I love about Farmers you guys have to be so unbelievably creative. It's not easy to get traditional equipment out there much respect for you guys keep feeding America
I know I'm late to the party, But First off I'm sorry for the trash, it has a problem in that area. Thank you for the stealth camp location advise , and your video in general as I have been wanting to start backpack hiking during the off seasons and I live very close to 1 trailhead and my parents at another making a 3 day 2 night hike between us and I am looking forward to my first attempt. I will attempt the first 2 sections after my first hike and assessing my gear. Palmetto is pronounced" Palm-et-toe" the n you were mixing is wasn't the only thing sounding wrong and Eutaw Springs and Eutawville are "Utah" like the state. I am impressed that you pronounced Bonneau correct your first try in the first video of this series.
You should kayak the Two Hearted River in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.
it's on my list of Michigan rivers, along with 10 others!
Do you have to reserve camp sites or is it first come first serve.
Great video !
reserved ahead of time on line, and we didn't do it correctly but it worked out since it was the off season and mid week.
I love the drive through and like seeing the deer.
An annual thur paddle of the Mad would be great. Honestly any paddle videos I’d be for!😂
Run forest
Thank you, great video. What nutrients are you using? and what is the final NPK of the resevoir.
Should have went all the way down to the ohio
Didn’t have the time, maybe another day
@jasonwish- I watched another guy's video, and he did it. He said in 3.5 days. That's what it says in the title anyhow. They took a tent so they had more options to set up camp. I liked your video better though. I love fishing in the big scioto. I've caught plenty of catfish out of there. Never eat them though lol
Enjoyed your video. I have your kayak(Sound10.5) Question Have you river camped using a canoe? I just bought one to be able to bring my wife and dog. Have you used a canoe before? Take it easy Scott from Northern Indiana.
only a few times, but my wife doesn't like primitive camping so normally I'm solo. Canoes are so much harder to manover on small rivers compared to kayaks in my opinion...I don't really care for them.
@@jasonwish- I really like my sound 10.5. It’s easy to fish from and comfortable to paddle. 👍👍 on your videos!
Fantastic!!
Tannerite cannot be set off by fire, an electronic fuse, dynamite fuse, or hitting it with a baseball bat. Tannerite requires a large caliber bullet traveling at speeds of greater than 2,000 feet per second to detonate. Even slower bullets such as the legendary.45 ACP will not set off Tannerite.
how much wood did you bring with??
Just a couple bundles that wouldn’t weigh down the boat too much ha ha
The trash is a way or life for a certain type of folks around here, it's so sad.
Well, I definitely noticed a lot less as I continued further northwest down the trail. I’m sure the final 100 miles that I have this fall will be very pristine up in the mountains!
@jasonwish- I'm planning to be up that way this fall as well. I'm going to take my two sons and their girlfriends for their first overnighter.
Holy smokes😮💣💣💣😵😵😵😵
How do you deal with the drip hose does it not break from the wheel please explain about the drip hose.
The drip tape is off to the side about 4 inches and is easily avoided if you drive straight. When we do a double row such as peppers the drip tape is down the middle and we plant either side of the drip tape about 4 inches away, so you never really have a problem hitting it. If you’re interested in the farming videos, please check out Farm channel where we released three videos per week about our operation. youtube.com/@wishwellfarms?si=b-RGGeLhKHDdEKsa
Why are you saying 1500 dozen or couple hundred dozen indtead of the actual number?
Because we don’t ever know the exact amount we harvest until it is packed up and put into tubs and rolled into the cooler so it’s just a guesstimate
@@jasonwish- Oh understand now, thank you
Awesome video 🎃
