      @@OnTheRunway Hey Joe. I'm an airplane fanatic myself, unfortunately I'm not as lucky as you are as I don't live anywhere near an airport here in Brazil, but I do love to spend hours watching videos about these beautiful machines and I'm an armchair pilot as well.

      It's a great plane. Good to see them in San Diego. In a few of my videos FedEx uses the 757 to fly 20 minutes from Tijuana, then to Oakland. Traffic can take hours to cross at the Mexican border. Sometimes they use a 767. That must be one of the shorter "heavy" flights in the world. Thanks for watching. Hope you follow along. Joe

    • @OnTheRunway
      @OnTheRunway  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ya some guy just commented that ATC takes too much time between departures, What? If the next landing aircraft is (3 miles?) out, they usually clear these guys for takeoff (maybe 2000 feet from turning onto the runway) "Can you take an immediate, and keep it rolling?" As long as they're 100% ready for takeoff (everything is loaded and safe, etc.,) they have a goodtime flying around that corner.
      Usually followed by an ATC compliment. "Nice Roll" ATC does a great job of getting the planes in the air. Even during the busy day. I'll often times hear the tower apologize for making a plane wait. "American, SoCal needs 45 seconds for spacing, etc.." Way better than, "American, you're number 14 for departure." I'm talking to you DFW. Thanks for watching, more to come.

    Great catches mate! it's pretty cool to see Delta use the 767-300ERs and 767-400ERs here now since they will be retired in a couple of years, especially with sometimes the A330-200/A330-300 stopping by occasionally. also by the looks of it (Besides British Airways bringing the A350-1000) Lufthansa might bring the A350-900 here as well when their A340s retire next year. but take it with a grain of salt because we might get either the A330-300 or 787-9 instead.

      Yes I caught 3 DL 767's yesterday. Ill get that footage up soon. We also get a fair share of Delta 767 cargo and charter flights. I think a few teams use that plane. It looks like BA is starting again in Sept with a 777. Then switch to a 787 over the holidays. They were switching to the A350 in Dec, but it switched to a 787. I agree about the A340. Who knows what it will turn into. Im moving to Bangkok in 11 months. Ill find a hotel roof and gets plenty of heavies. Take it easy. Joe. Good idea. I've got them sprinkled in my videos. I need to put together a heavy video. I'm working 6 days a week. Off on Sunday. Sorry I missed the return of Air Canada today. I think it's an RJ, but still nice to see a return. BA in Sept. Not sure which aircraft. It looks like a 777 and then it switches to the A350 in January. Either way, I wish it was the 747.

      Thanks John. The radio is an older ICOM IC5. (I think) I flew older single radio planes. I have my private pilot, but haven't flew in years. I love to fly, but I'll like retiring early (next year) better. I'm moving to Thailand. Hopefully I'll get some Bangkok runway views.
      I'm working 60 hours a week, so I'm trying for at least 1 video a week. I'm also having a little fun with a travel channel. It's mostly Baja today, next year it will be SE Asia. It's the Eager Expat if you want to check it out. I got in the cockpit of a few Mexican Airbuses. See ya, Joe

Plus in my footage somewhere I caught a Coast Guard C-130. I'll try and find a spot near the bases to capture some traffic. Thanks for watching. If you haven't, I hope I earn your subscription. Nicely put together. Does San Diego ever get weather? Be exciting to see a 767 or 777 landing.

    • @OnTheRunway
      @OnTheRunway  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      We don't get crazy weather, that's for sure. When the cloud layer drops, they usually switch to the ILS runway 9. Coming in off the ocean. I've caught many Delta 767's landing and takeoff. Plus the Japan Airlines 787. Check out my video from June 4, 2021 for the 787 landing. The video from June 9 has the Delta 767 landing. I'll be putting together a "best of" with heavy aircraft. I've also got some A330's. The BA 777 will be back in Sept, then switch to a A350. June 17 video I caught the JAL 787 departing. Thanks for watching. I hope I earn your subscription. Joe

    • @OnTheRunway
      @OnTheRunway  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for watching. A Boeing 738 is a 737-800. It's just a shortcut pilots and ATC use. You'll often hear a Boeing 767-400 called a 764. Or a Boeing 757-300 is called a 753. You'll hear the Japan Airlines Dreamliner (Boeing 787) that lands in San Diego called a 788. That's a Boeing 787-800. If it was a 787-900, it would be a 789. Same shortcuts with Airbus.

    • @OnTheRunway
      @OnTheRunway  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Repair? Looks like every other runway to me. There's rubber on the pavement, but that happens when 125,000 pounds of jet slams into it a hundred times a day. As long as it's smooth, I'm good to go. Thanks for watching.

    36:41 Does really the buildings on top of the hill really interfer with the airplanes landing path?
    I read that an airplane went very close to one of the buildings and almost crashed.

    • @OnTheRunway
      @OnTheRunway  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No its a safe approach. There was a crash in the 1970s with a Cessna. The buildings are only a problem with low clouds. In that case they come in from the ocean and land on Runway 9. Thousands of landings with zero building issues. If a pilot doesn't like the approach they have the option to go around.

    They talk so fast……

    • @OnTheRunway
      @OnTheRunway  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes they often times handle a dozen aircraft in a few minutes. Not wasting time on the radio is important. ATC will take a little extra time with a student pilot transiting the Class Bravo, etc.. But the airline pros and ATC are usually on the same page. If there's ever a question, you'll hear a pilot or ATC ask for clarification. They talk fast, but safety comes first
