  • Jawbone Canyon into Sequoia National Forest! I had the opportunity to meet up with Jonny Taco Outdoors, the Tacoma we got unstuck from the mud over near Red Rock Canyon. We did the trip he originally was planning to do with his wife the day he got stuck. We made our way through the desert and ultimately found our way to the top of the Piute Mountain in Sequoia National Forest.

    I have the same fire pit. It's great when campsites don't have them or previous campers leave the existing ones filled with garbage. Great video.

      I’ve had that for a couple of years and haven’t ever been able to use it because of fire bans. It was cool to finally be able to use it! I know what you mean though about trashed fire pits - kind of crazy how gross people can be.

      Yeah it’s a lost little gem - and for me it’s probably the closest place for me to go. Well unless it’s the start of deer season. Went up last weekend - before the storm - and it was packed. Thanks for watching Benjamin!

    Hey there, finally stumbled upon your channel and this video! I met you guys while you were filming. My family has the property with the cows on the corner of Jawbone and Piute Mountain Road

      HEY! Great to meet up with you online! Blue ZR2 Colorado if I remember correctly. That is really a special place up there especially when it isn't hunting season! LOL. Hope you and your family are doing great and didn't get too battered up with all the crazy weather we've been having lately! It's funny you found the video, I was really thinking of heading up there this weekend and just enjoying the peace and quiet! Check out Jonny's video from that trip - th-cam.com/video/qaM64JoNOs4/w-d-xo.html

    Came here with my Subaru Outback wilderness a month ago. It was a nice trail but turned around since I didn’t wanna go thru

    • @dustyroaddestinations
      @dustyroaddestinations  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah it was a bit complicated where that road washed out. The bypass worked but I had Jonny spotting me. Still it’s a beautiful area out there

    • @alexisolvera8372
      @alexisolvera8372 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@dustyroaddestinations yeah as soon as I got to that rutted area I took the bypass and maybe half a mile after I returned. How is the rest of the trail? I’d like to try it again all the way to lake isabella

    • @dustyroaddestinations
      @dustyroaddestinations  ปีที่แล้ว

      @alexisolvera8372 I hate to tell you this but honestly after that it was really nice. The back way to Isabella once you start coming down the mountain is pretty narrow and bouncy but when I aired down it was pretty nice. I should’ve done it as soon as I hit the dirt but I was trying to get up the mountain before dark (I failed). But that was on the 18th on a different trip. Had I realized the 19th was the first day of deer archery season I wouldn’t have gone - it was packed that weekend.

    Loved it Duane! Your shots are awesome. The whole journey out there.. your shot sequence was beautiful and paired with that ambient song. Very nice man. Looks like you dudes found a good spot. Even if it rained! Your set up is awesome. What an upgrade, I want one. Lol. Beautiful video… also.. that shot of the drone coming down the trees after the rain was epic.. thanks for posting man!! Makes me want to get out there!

      Thanks for checking it out and definitely appreciate the feedback! It was a really great spot and super calm and quiet out there. I went back the following weekend only to find out it was opening day of archery deer season so it was PACKED with people. This might be my new go to area. Just wish there was a larger stream up there!

    Did you ever find out what the rusted structure was? Kind of looks like it could’ve been an old VOR for aviation navigation.

    • @dustyroaddestinations
      @dustyroaddestinations  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Actually we did, Jonny did reach for that and it was a chip burner. Good call on the VOR that really does kind of look like it. In Jonny's video he goes into more detail - th-cam.com/video/qaM64JoNOs4/w-d-xo.html

    • @dustyroaddestinations
      @dustyroaddestinations  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It was a few months before. The road out of jawbone is still pretty messed up post Hilary. I went out a few weeks ago with Mr. Taco and he ended up breaking his spindle on a rut. Take it slow and keep your eyes open if you head out that way and you will be good to go!

      It’s funny/ironic you say that. When I first started doing this channel I was thinking I could basically show how you don’t need a lot of gear/money to get out and then I went insane…. Hopefully it can still be inspirational for people to encourage them to get out and just get some earth under your feet! Now that I’m basically “solo” my intention is to go out almost every weekend and try to make a video out of it. I have a trip planned for this Labor Day weekend which should be fun. Plus @Jonny Taco Outdoors also makes videos and I’m trying to learn from him on how he puts his videos together.

    Thanks for showing me an area thats kind of in my backyard, but I haven't explored. Being semi remote, does it still see a lot of visitors? Was the cold spring near Camp Blum, or farther up?

    • @dustyroaddestinations
      @dustyroaddestinations  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Only during hunting season otherwise it’s really nice. If you’re like me, in the area, this is like a secret gem. Easy to get to and relatively remote. Not sure about Camp Blum, the spring was near Cold Spring Camp.

    • @theseandowney
      @theseandowney 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Cold spring is much higher up on Piute Mountain Road. Probably an additional 30-45 minutes past Camp Blum

    Is it 2wd accessible with rear lockers?

    • @dustyroaddestinations
      @dustyroaddestinations  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Well, when we made this video that route was pretty nice and smooth. The only area that would have been dicey would have been the area near the kiln. HOWEVER, since Hillary it has jacked the road up right after it turns to dirt. You *might* be able to make it up with only rear lockers and if you have decent ground clearance. If you're good with driving in sand you could take an alternate route to meet back up with the jawbone canyon road. In my video posted today I show a bit of that.
