I always loved this ep. I am a huge fan of evos, especially evo 5-6's and I deff. respect Z's and 911s. I forgot but I think they are all 5 speed manuals, though maybe the 911 is 6 spd...I forget what those 80s years were, but from a tunning aspect, its interesting that this show is about top speed with the tunning dynamics of how to make a car go above 200 mph (miles per hour). The evo changed his final 5th gear to a longer gear for better top speed, which seemed to somewhat work. I think He just did not have the guts to keep going...I mean I dont blame him its over 200 mph. I did 165 in my supercharged s2000 and I was scared, and that was only for 20-30 seconds. I do think the z and porche having 6 cylinders would with more horsepower and torq. Would still have more power to accelarate against the increased drag (Air) pushing back on the cars, there for making it still a losing battle for the evo...one step on the gas further and the z and the 911 could accelerate faster against the drag (air)...and there vehicles seem (and I think in real life) have a better drag coefficient than the EVO. We also have to take account that the older Z had one of best chasis jobs done to it, as well as other cars in the series...alot of factors play into top speed, especially down force. Edit - Also he stated, which I forgot, was the longer wheel base of the Z atleast and maybe the porche? have to look that up. Its also interesting that he state at 100mph is normal cruise for the z and 911...at 150 he states that they let off the throttle just a little and switch lanes, then get back on the gas. The cars stay very stable, in which, most unmodified cars would not....Those 2 guys tunning the cars know what the hell they are during from the matching of the tires to engine. Notice they are both 6 cylinders as well making it easier to produce the same or more power than the smaller motors. Also not stressing the motor as much. This anime is so damn interesting and teaches alot.
This clip is the "race highlight" which cuts out some dialogs. In the full anime Eiji said he felt the engine would blow if he used the whole ten seconds of instant boost and he didn't want to reck the engine so..
The final drive upgrade in the evo doesnt only make 5th gear longer it makes all gears longer 1-5. You get slower initial acceleration but higher top speed. Ive had my evo x up to 150mph for a about 6-7mins and it is very planted and stable, another 50mph though is a different story, probably would need a flat underbody and rear diffuser
@@imcappuccino He came to the realisation that being a pro racer meant testing and breaking things over and over again to make them better, and he did not have the heart to break the engine that Rikako re-built and tuned for him. So he backed down and went back to Osaka
Seems like the Evo 5 is a perfect machine for racing movies and animes, you see in this anime you got this blue Evo 5, in Initial D there's one appeared in the fourth season, and the Legend of Speed 1999 action movie...
So unfortunate that my favourite ferrari (testarossa) disappeared from the show. And the evo 6 is one of my dream cars with the r32 skyline and ae86 levin turbo
The show was based on a group if real life racers called "Midnight Club" that raced on the Wangan. The club would kick out members who couldnt control their 280km/h cars on the expressway as it could harm innocent drivers; Hence, the blinking and sharp slaloms
Man, it's incredible to think that this used to be "fast". These made 600-800whp in the 90's-00's, and now the fastest cars are 1800whp+ twin turbo supercars. I know they're like 20 years apart, but its kinda funny to think about a Calvo Viper blowing the doors off of anything in this show, bc it's got like 3x the PW ratio lol
@@jeppyjep oh definitely. It’s just not earth-shattering anymore, like I know a couple dudes with 600whp Chevy Cobalts lol. I remember when the Veyron came out and we were all like “Wow! 1000 horsepower? That’s unfathomable!” And now we’ve seen N/A hondas with better 1/4 miles times.
If you had watched This anime seriously, you would understand that your thinking is wrong. In this anime, some episode shows "horsepower is not speed". And This anime guys time, like That guys people derived car C1 and K1 and Wangan Line so many laps and so long times , in a week, in a day.
@@なむなむ-b5l horsepower doesn’t necessarily equate to speed until the difference is undeniably massive. We’re talking about a 700hp Porsche vs a LITERAL 3,000WHP Dodge Viper. The cars in the show are fast- the fastest of their time. But 1999 was 25 years ago, and a lot’s changed since then.
One of the weakness of 911 Turbo (964) is the weight balance. The engine placement put so much weight into the back part of the car. If the car goes too fast, would result of front tires loses its grip cuz the front part would float all the time (CMIIW)
It's what happened to Shima in the last race. He overdid the weight reduction which resulted in the car feeling like a feather in the wind and he gave up as a result
The 86 wouldn't stand a chance against these highway beasts. These cars are designed and modded to destroy the top speeds, cars in initial d are designed for the roads in the hills. The Z would have definitely destroy the 86 on a straight line with that top speed.
i swear this series lack of stories, it can do better like add more stories, background to each characters ( i'm talking to you reina) and if they want to they can add more jdm our europe car like nsx, silvia S15, or old lamborghini

ohh i love that last stretch with the black bird running away from the devil Z.
The Naniwa saga is my preferred mini saga on this series, because the focus is on the 911 and Shima.
perfect soundtrack and perfect atmosphere for the Wangan black Emperor!!
long live THE BLACK BIRD!
Aytakta for endurance the 911 Turbo is best
cant find your comment about the F40.
i was just using as example since it was the car to talk about with the 959 and the eb111.
just to ad something, theres a video of a f40 running alone in the kanjyo at 300 kph in an insane pace, the owner got arrested. : (
Aytakta how he got arrested ??
cant remenber exactly.
i think it was not his first infraction and after you lose your license the next step is getting arrested in Japan.
He would sell the video of him driving at 300km/h in the "black market" but sold it to one undercover cop got arrested. Here:

It's pretty old but so is the Midnight Club as it was disbanded in 1994-96.

Anybody else feel like Eiji's Evo sounds like a Ferrari during hard acceleration? 11:40 to be precise
yep that true is just they put extaust manifold from lambo and a ferrari extaust

A 400+AWHP Evo is much faster like a beast as it feels like it pulls more like 500+
I always loved this ep.
Youre talking about drag ans downforce. The evo wins on both on those. Its just a mismatch in hp.
@@imcappuccino correct he took care of his engine a work of art
@@imcappuccino
He came to the realisation that being a pro racer meant testing and breaking things over and over again to make them better, and he did not have the heart to break the engine that Rikako re-built and tuned for him. So he backed down and went back to Osaka

Seems like the Evo 5 is a perfect machine for racing movies and animes, you see in this anime you got this blue Evo 5, in Initial D there's one appeared in the fourth season, and the Legend of Speed 1999 action movie...

I love the part in wangan midnight where they drive to touge and say " Ah this is boring, its so slow, ill just have to take it easy"
@Steve Vento At 300 km/h... not in autobahn
@Steve Vento thats not talented. only talented was learning about some curves and tight corners
The fact that his Evo is blue with Golden rims bothers me. Like....a lot.
lol I love it!

So unfortunate that my favourite ferrari (testarossa) disappeared from the show. And the evo 6 is one of my dream cars with the r32 skyline and ae86 levin turbo
The testarossa was sick in the series! Too bad Ishida retired from racing in the wangan
@@Hydropanic1 yea ikr😦
The Mercedes deserved more attention
notice even they cut into lanes fast they were using their blinkers, irresponsible but still polite drivers
The show was based on a group if real life racers called "Midnight Club" that raced on the Wangan. The club would kick out members who couldnt control their 280km/h cars on the expressway as it could harm innocent drivers; Hence, the blinking and sharp slaloms
By the way, for your description, the EVO Shown is a Evolution V. Its chassis code would be CP9A.
Edit: I believe the Mercedes is a R129.
Probably SL500 R129
11:41 why does the Evo sound like an Aventador? 😂😂
Michael Legarde perhaps the V12 was combined with 2 V6 engines ?
The car has a 4 Cyl engine. Maybe just a good exhaust? Also Lamborghinis are bad cars.
TheShrum utterly useless
Michael Legarde i think VTec was Kick in

I wish the culture in USA was like this. Instead we have a bunch of 1/4 race cars, takeovers etc
It's looking like Nfs Underground race. Pretty good.
It really does lmaao
Man, it's incredible to think that this used to be "fast". These made 600-800whp in the 90's-00's, and now the fastest cars are 1800whp+ twin turbo supercars. I know they're like 20 years apart, but its kinda funny to think about a Calvo Viper blowing the doors off of anything in this show, bc it's got like 3x the PW ratio lol
dont get me wrong this show is fucking awesome, just incredible how far we've come lmfao
600-800hp is still fast tho, especially in long highway race like these guys.
But 1999 was 25 years ago, and a lot’s changed since then.

get glasses, there are lots of turns
Mantas Jurksa but not hairpin turns.
There were spiral-like turns.
Cosmic Cars nope, this is so different
*when initial d hardcore fans watch wangan midnight for the first time be like*
One of the weakness of 911 Turbo (964) is the weight balance.
11:46 Nigga wasn't going flat out that whole time 😂🤣😂
The sound of the Blackbird is soooo godly

The thing that cool about wangan midnight is the race and drama xd
I want a Wangan Midnight and Initial D crossover.
I bet they would met each other in the daikoko futo
The 86 wouldn't stand a chance against these highway beasts. These cars are designed and modded to destroy the top speeds, cars in initial d are designed for the roads in the hills. The Z would have definitely destroy the 86 on a straight line with that top speed.
