Hi everyone. I'm Sailing as a Captain since 2 years now. Became Captain at the age of 34. For new aspiring guys, my advice is to ask yourself why you want to get into this profession? if the answer is just for money, see the world then i would suggest to get into some other profession. There is a lot commercial pressure than before which i joined this profession. It affect your mental health at times. It will ruin your social life. Paperwork will keep you busy and with time you will have sleepless nights. So before coming into this, keep in mind that companies are paying you all this money just to have fun and see the world. They're paying you as per your stress level. So Greater the money, Greater the stress. All the best

Chief engineer here. Been sailing for 20 years. My advice to youngsters is to go for other profession as now the salary on shore is equivalent or even better to the salary in merchant navy. The commercial pressure, fast turnaround times in port , hell lot of paperwork and diminishing crew strength due to automation has made life quite difficult. When i joined this field , there were not much options. I even tried for pilot training as my cousion sister passed her CPL from Indra gandhi udan academy, fursatganj. She had assured job in Air India, but for me if i would have done CPL there were no job openings.
I was dreaming for merchant Navy from class 9 now I am in class 12 and eagerly want to join merchant Navy. from your suggestion what can I do .@anandsails

@@rmcreativeseen4569 if you have passion and can stay away from family for prolonged periods, then join. Yes salary is good BUT only on top 4 level. You get paid till you are onboard. Effectively what ever you earn, just divide it by 2. So if today I am earning say 100 rs per month, then Effectively it's 50 rs. Keep that in mind. And till the time you are young, you might not feel home sickness. Once you get married and have children then only you feel the side effect of the job.

Guys don’t get fooled by his rosy stories.. shipping is nothing like what he mentioned. It’s a tough life, especially for crew. They have to bribe the agents every time to get a contract. Plus becoming an officer from crew is very very difficult. There are hardly any companies who take officers from crew background.

Give IMUCET Exam ( basic 12 ncert maths physics chemistry English GK general aptitude) Get sponsorship from company The company will hire you You do 1 yrs of DNS ( diploma in nautical science) Then you will join the merchant navy as Deck cadet . You have to do 18months of internship onboard the ship then you will give an exam and you get promoted to 3rd officer and so on It will really change your life

This is very true. I was lucky to get in easily and get promotions quickly and become an officer by 24 But all my friends have suffered
