Damn. Look how far we've come. I've been binge watching old PC game plays for a while now. Brings back good memories from when I was a kid, playing on my Dad's PC. Doom, Heretic, Mageslayer, Hexen and Hellbender!
...? I owned the original n64 and was never unimpressed or impressed by graphics. The gameplay was what interested me. Same with halo 1/2/3 Same with Unreal tournament 2004. Same with doom 1-4
Never played this back then, but now I am just impressed by the atmosphere. Its as if you stumbled i to a weird dimension where you need to know how everything works. New games don't have that feeling. No mystery. They are just games.
I am a Gen-Z kid and I have a TON of respect for old school FPS games, old games in general, not just First-Person Shooters. I even like them more than modern FPS games (because those mostly suck) and I keep telling my friends saying how mindblowing DOOM, Quake and Duke 3D were at the time. They also really respect old games
It is still fucking good. Somehos these games are much more fun than some new Ubisoft stuff...today im buying the original doom and duke nukem for ps4 just because they simply kick ass even today
I remember playing this game, and I loved it cause you get pick out one of three characters. I got the mage cause it fits my personality and he resembles me more cause of the red coat and cute boots.
I loved the mage, but the cleric will always be my favorite. He had that candy apple cape with them boots with the fur. Not to mention his sprit weapon was insane!
well. you've got Brutal Hexen in development, from the same guy(Sgt_Mark_IV) that has made Brutal doom...don't know how long till it's finished or the current state of develpment.
VLADBOB 007 there will never be another game in the Serpent Riders series until id Software and Raven Software settles their legal issues with deciding who owns the franchise.
This can be played as part of the Zdoom download which has all the Dooms, Heretic, Hexens and Strife, if you still want to play this great game. It has the Quake GUI built into it with bot support and can be run in 1920x1080, if you so wish. For me, this game has stood the test of time due mainly to its puzzles and difficulty (especially the xpac). Still play it every few years and was lucky enough to first complete the game in late '95 playing in 4 player co-op. Awesome memories. Dat music!
One of my favourite childhood games, unfortunately I never managed to finish it :/ I think I got stuck one one of the levels, and we didn’t have internet so I couldn’t look up a guide
mee too man I played it with my dad when I was about that age too. He told me that he had been working on a level himself for ages and he went out them room for 10 minutes and when he came back I solved it for him.
i remember warrio 3 hits : dead cleric 5 hits: dead mage: 9 shoots dead the funny fact was the cleric smoke bomb and the sound the enemys doing einngg einngg einngggx1000
Fighter is a tank for sure. IT's been like 15 years since I've played but I *think* its claim to fame is that all of its weapons will work without Mana (just less damage). Its special/ultimate is kinda boring, though - just a sword that slings little magic bullets sort of like a shotgun. I remember it not doing very much damage and being hard to hit anyone at any real range.
I already have them on my laptop, but it's no fun playing on a small screen. I'm considering getting the Steam Machine, still doing research on it. I was just saying it would be cool having games like that on the home consoles.
Dnekar Atkinson They say the new wolfestein is the same as the old ones but with renovated graphics its make me want to buy it but the price is still too much...
Dnekar Atkinson Oh i was thinking that you play on PC... im curious about the new doom... but i want something like new order not like doom 3 thats more like a survival horror...
I played Hexen way back in the late 90's - I was using windows 98 I think. I loved this game - it was a FPS and I didnt have to contend with others trying to kill me - just the monsters. That was perfect!!! Oh and yes I am a female too. There are very few FPS these days that are just single player games any more. They are all multiplayer games, and I just prefer single player. Hexen was a fun game. And NO I never played Heretic.
TheJarhead133 ikr ... Did the same thing in Tomb Raider II. Took me a month to actually start the game and not just the tutorial level. Didnt even complete the game until I tried it again as adult. Good times though.
Best fucking game ever.. :**//// crying man.. crying right now watching this shit.... wtf my childhood was there killing the horribles 2 heads guys. What a times. Best ambientation on the history of videogames.
+Sir Pavon ANd the sounds.... what the heck with that incredible sounds. I still remember de zzzzhhh zhhh when you pick the green bottles or the sound of the doors opening and closing... Master piece.
Hi, Hexen is a good Game, I own for the Nintendo 64. I heard that the Version for PC and Playstation 1 is much better as the Nintendo 64 version. Is that right? and is there such a huge difference? I only played the Nintendo 64 version. Thanks ;-)
It did the same for me...nowadays the only thing that would scare the daylights out of me for this game was that you'd die if you fell from a great distance.
Ahh, those were the days when so many online videos hadn't desensitized us and turning this game on in your house felt like it took over your whole room.
what mods did you use? i'm playing it on dosbox and it doesn't look as good.. and there is no glow around the torches, or when you hit someone with the axe..
@Jawisian Mine is the windows 95 version, and when I am near the end of the second hub, the game crashes each time I exit the room full of centaurs. Happens each time, even when I uninstalled and reinstalled it. Very, very frustrating, to say the least. Any ideas how to rectify this problem?
Me and my bro playing on coop would pick different monsters each to be our army and we would mass spawn them and then make them go to war and try to kill the other guy first : p 10/10 game
I played that constantly after work, tho Hexen 2 was better. My husband & I argued over who got the computer that night. I still have the disks for Hexen 2!
Thanks for posting this. It's gaming history, and should be preserved.
That music for the first level is a masterpiece
Damn. Look how far we've come. I've been binge watching old PC game plays for a while now. Brings back good memories from when I was a kid, playing on my Dad's PC. Doom, Heretic, Mageslayer, Hexen and Hellbender!
Finally found this game. It's been deep in my memory for so long. I remember the stress of trying to dodge those crushing pillars in the first level.
Kids these days will never understand how mindblowing these graphics were back then.
...? I owned the original n64 and was never unimpressed or impressed by graphics. The gameplay was what interested me.
Same with halo 1/2/3
Same with Unreal tournament 2004.
Same with doom 1-4
They still mindblowing

I loved this game, it was like Doom but with jumping.
Oh man i loved this game when i was a kid every time i went to the game store I would rent it over and over again.
I used to play this when I was little with all my cousins. Sometimes the monsters used to scare me af

I remember playing this game, and I loved it cause you get pick out one of three characters. I got the mage cause it fits my personality and he resembles me more cause of the red coat and cute boots.
Becki Henderson mage was my guy too
Mage is my favorite character too.
Love how you could change the color of the robes, but he was always blue in game either way LOL
I loved the mage, but the cleric will always be my favorite. He had that candy apple cape with them boots with the fur. Not to mention his sprit weapon was insane!
they should reboot this franchise..
I agree :) can you just imagine how awesome this game would look on todays consoles?
well. you've got Brutal Hexen in development, from the same guy(Sgt_Mark_IV) that has made Brutal doom...don't know how long till it's finished or the current state of develpment.

This brings back so many memories I remember when i got this game i never wanted to play it cause it was too scary
I remember playing this game back then. Too bad I was too naive to know what I had.
Oh man I remeber this game, good old times where I played it with my grandfather together :)
I used to watch my brother play this, it was scary at times especially the music. Still good memories :)
I'm gonna get that game for the ps1. it looks badass, but Its underrated by lots of people nowadays.
xx__sad emo__xx it's extremely underrated ;(
My childhood. This game was fucking epic, just look that level design man!
I use that program too. I'm glad someone came up with it because I like Doom 2 as well as Hexen.
"Greeting mortal. Are you ready to die?" :-)
man all these old fps games deserve an xbla release, hexen, blood, shadow warrior, quake 1, final doom, and half life 1 i would buy them all
When I used to play this as a kid (5 and 6) this game would scare the absolute shit out of me haha. Funny to look back at what it really looked like.
brings back such good memories! :D
Greetings mortal! I am glad to see someone to make 1995 Hexen walkthrough! What about Hexen II ?
This can be played as part of the Zdoom download which has all the Dooms, Heretic, Hexens and Strife, if you still want to play this great game. Man I remember going over to my friends house and playing this game when I was like 5 or 6 years old
Damn, if I knew there were more than just 3 classes, I would have asked that you make a demo of those two new ones as well. Shows how little I know.
Loved this game back in the day!
Yes, the good old Hexen. Good old times. I have finished this game.
Ahh I remember watching my dad play this game was scary in the day lol
Reminds me from the old times when i played this as a kid :)
20 years later and no game has better FPS melee gameplay than this
No, there are some FPS with better melee combat, like Comdemned for instance.
+fohstick a brutal doom mod has a good melee sistem
That midi music brings me life.
One of my favourite childhood games, unfortunately I never managed to finish it :/ I think I got stuck one one of the levels, and we didn’t have internet so I couldn’t look up a guide
They should really remake this game!! I would play the shit out of it.
A new Hexen game just like the last Doom
Damn it I want that
Deunel there's a game called "Amid Evil" coming, but it's not exactly the same.
Hexen was the first game i ever played!! Next to counter.. For the n64. I was only 8yd. Im 23 now
This used to scare the living crap out of me! My mom used to play this. And I used to watch her. she was the true queen of this game
Love this game, I wish I could download it again.
I played this game a lot, bought it in 1996. I think I gave up after the Ice room episode.
I use to love to get the Cross that fired spirts and killed everything in the room. What was that thing called?
mee too man I played it with my dad when I was about that age too.
He told me that he had been working on a level himself for ages and he went out them room for 10 minutes and when he came back I solved it for him.
I miss this game so much...
i remember warrio 3 hits : dead
cleric 5 hits: dead
mage: 9 shoots dead
the funny fact was the cleric smoke bomb and the sound the enemys doing einngg einngg einngggx1000
that's true
but cleric's last weapon: 1 hit EVERYONE IN THE ROOM DEAD except you so...best pick!
No joke - Cleric ultimate BEST ultimate.
Fighter is a tank for sure. IT's been like 15 years since I've played but I *think* its claim to fame is that all of its weapons will work without Mana (just less damage). It scared the shit out of me, too. I played it when I was about 8 xD
Beautiful memories!

its on the steam the complete package with all the hexen games for 9,99 dollars...
I already have them on my laptop, but it's no fun playing on a small screen. I'm considering getting the Steam Machine, still doing research on it. I was just saying it would be cool having games like that on the home consoles.
Dnekar Atkinson
They say the new wolfestein is the same as the old ones but with renovated graphics its make me want to buy it but the price is still too much...
If you mean the new order on PS4, it looks amazing. I don't know what else it is on. I play mostly my ps3, don't have a ps4 yet.
Dnekar Atkinson
Oh i was thinking that you play on PC... im curious about the new doom... but i want something like new order not like doom 3 thats more like a survival horror...
I use to see this in the bargain bin all the time. Now I kind of wish I would have tried it.
MaxCovington543 it's not too late! It's on steam for 5 bucks. And other places on the internet.
Always wanted to play this when I was young but never got round to it... To me it looks like Doom meets Elder Scrolls Daggerfall.
I played Hexen way back in the late 90's - I was using windows 98 I think. I loved this game - it was a FPS and I didnt have to contend with others trying to kill me - just the monsters. Doom has had a bad ass modern redo. Where's the love for this game?
It did the same for me...nowadays the only thing that would scare the daylights out of me for this game was that you'd die if you fell from a great distance.
i used to play on ps1 but i remeber being really scared haha and i didnt have a memory card so i never finished it.
