I have several questions. I'm 61 and my lovely wife asked if I would mind if she got a rabbit. I said " if we must". See, I think rabbits are barn yard animals, she thinks they're pets. #1 Do meat rabbits and pet rabbits differ in diet? Pellets in morning and fresh romaine, carrots (small) a grape or 2 (frozen) and Timothy hey whenever she likes. #2 What age and weight are meat rabbits when they are determined ready for heaven & or table ready? Marty
1 st question. Diet... a healthy diet would be the same for a meat rabbit and a pet rabbit but often time pet rabbits are given treats. This is much like a kid eating cake for dinner. They live but it is not the best for them. Pellets and Timothy hey are great food sources. Everything else would be considered a treat. Iceberg lettuce can kill your rabbits but romaine would be ok. If they stop eating their pellets you are feeding them to many treats. Also watch for sickness and make sure they are getting fiber. Timothy hay has good fiber. 2 nd each breed of rabbit is different as to what age they are ready for heaven. Ideal weight would be between 5-6.5 lbs. and age is under 16 weeks old. Some breeds will hit 5 lbs in 8 weeks some will never it 5 lbs.
