Thank you so much for sharing. I love your videos I am a SMBC, looking to inseminate in April via IVF. The donor I choose had lower risk of medical conditions known to my family to minimize my future babies from those conditions like cycle cell anemia. So my list was over 6’0 feet since I am short and the shortest one in my family I wanted my baby to have a chance of being taller than me. I wanted a donor with wavy hair since mines in curly. I also wanted someone who was the same blood type as me I know that’s not a big deal to some but for me it was important. I looked at his babies pictures and adult pictures and I liked his facial features. He’s educated, genuine, and smart. I am so happy for you and other women who are embarking on single motherhood. I am so excited to be pregnant and see my baby.
I’m going to become a smbc also. I will not disclose my donor’s information also. But a biracial African-American and my donor is Hispanic. He isn’t tall (though height isn’t important to me). He is from a beautiful country and his occupation is a HUGE plus with me. He has now moved to the United States. So once my child(ren) becomes 18. They won’t have to travel overseas to meet their biological father. My donor is also open😄
My priorities were: 1. Open known donor, had to be 2. Same ethnic background or similar, as a white solo mom I knew I wouldn't have the community culture and knowledge of living with systematic racism to consciously parent a biracial child. 3. Previous children or donor conceived offspring, I did NOT want a lot or really any half siblings around, especially locally but both donors have not had any other pregnancies from their sperm or plan to in the future. 4. Health concerns, really just the main chromosomal abnormalities. 5. Attitude on the profile, if this was someone who seemed smart, kind, conscious of his impact on the world, and since it was known, no mention or pressure of natural insemination. 6. Location, I didn't mind shipping but ended up going local. Also availability.
If you have any questions about IUI or donor sperm, definitely feel free to reach out! I don’t know everything by any means, but I’m always happy to share what I do know about the process and my experiences!
Oh my gosh just watching this has gotten me so excited. I just bought my first semen from my chosen sperm donor! Big things for me was honestly height, I am tall (5'8) and I wanted them to be tall too, it mattered to me whether they were athletic, I also cared about how they answered the provided questions, and I wanted to make sure we were not the same carrier for anything. I didn't have many requirements first going in, but once I looked through the entire profiles I noticed parts that mattered to me that I didn't think about before.
If you watch the videos of donor children one of the most common things they say is it bothered me growing up not knowing my dad “my other half”. But now with almost every human in America having someone in their family tree that’s been genetically tested, genetic anonymity no longer exist and by the time your child is 10 to 14 and can get a little pocket money they’ll be able to find their father easily.
I felt really confident in my choice. I had been thinking about it for years and was happy with my donor and my doctor. It was a very exciting experience!
Did you do IUI or IVF? I’m curious to your experience with both if you did... And did you have a hard time finding a place being a larger woman. I hear sometimes places won’t help you get pregnant if your a heavy person.
Hi Lena, I did 6 rounds of IUI and egg retrieval for IVF - I have multiple videos about both of these experiences on my channel that you may be interested in! In one of my egg retrieval videos I do talk about why I had to do the retrieval at a hospital vs my normal fertility clinic and my pregnancy story addresses some of being plus sized/a weight loss surgery patient!
So so selfish you wanted a baby so you had a baby not giving a crap that the baby would be without a father and a 2 parent household. Most boys in single mom households end up bad off and when he learns he doesn't have a dad and his friends do have dad's what will you tell him? I choose to have you and not give you a dad?
I don't think I'll ever be a sperm donor because of what I saw on TH-cam so now I want to become a private sperm donor but I can't find absolutely no information on that at all even Google or TH-cam . I want my kids to be medium height , healthy, good looking , smart and physically and emotionally strong. the guys should be from '58" - '510" and girls '54" - '56" , these are the best qualities I think .
