Ah viewing this today and it seems like her online presence is gone. Applying for law school next year and a momma! Just really wanted to see inspirations!
Hi Sharmaine! That's so exciting that you'll be applying for law school next year! I actually host a free FB for law students and prelaw students who are looking for clarity and support in their journey, would you like the link to join? We have a lot of nontraditional law students (including law students with kids) that you can reach out to and connect with about their experiences!
Im starting law school with kids. I'm rather nervous, but I already finished a bachelor's with children so I'm hoping I'll be able to do this as well! There isn't a lot of mandatory class in my country so I can structure my studying more as I wish. Which is nice.
Hi Marthe! That's wonderful and so exciting! I actually run a free FB group for law students and prelaw students looking for clarity and support in their law school journey, and there are quite a few nontraditional law students in the group if you're looking to connect with people in similar circumstances, would you like the link to join? :)
Haven’t even watch the video yet but I’m so glad you’re making this video as someone who is starting the process of applying to law school I’ll be 28 soon and I’m just wondering where do I fit in kids!
Hi, Tiara!! It's amazing just the fact that you're going after your dream career, much less doing it with kids as well! I love the insights that Sarah gives in this video, and I hope they give you some reassurance about the feasibility of the work/personal balancing act as a lawyer with kids :)
I was pregnant while in Law school. My third baby was 4 months old when I started studying for a Combines Masters. Wasn't easy but I was hungry so my hunger fueled my ambition. I was on Maternity leave and knew that once I got back to work I would never study again. 'Kids' were not the difficult part for me, it was when I went back to work full time in the city and had to travel 4 hours to University that got me. All the best, go for it. And I was one of the oldest in my Medical law class... that wasn't a problem.
The positive spin from COVID is that firms are slowly understanding pure production and the cost savings of work from home. This is a huge development for the culture and allows personal freedom with locked metrics. Relaxed people simply are more cognizant.
Angela, I love watching your videos, they are very informative and reassuring for me. I am a 32 year old mom preparing for law school. I would really appreciate if you could do a video with a mom who went back to law school and became an attorney after. I think that would really help other moms like me who are aspiring to be attorneys and don’t know anyone who has done that as a mom. Much love to you!
I love that idea! I'll definitely add that to the list! And if you're interested in additional support, I also run a free FB group for law students and prelaw students, would you like the link to join? :)
@@AngelaVorpahl I just graduated from law school in Canada in 2020 and am starting a clerkship in August. I still don't know what area of practice I want to pursue, but criminal is on my mind. Btw I'm also a mom of a 1 year old so I really appreciated this video.
@@karinafrancisco3210 I'm so glad to hear that the video was helpful! And YES I definitely want to make more videos highlighting different areas of the law to help people get clarity around what type of law they want to practice because I know that sooo many of us don't have that clear in our minds until we actually start practicing. And it would be so nice to have more direction before that :)
I'm glad to see this video. As a dad starting law school at 30 with three kids, I'm extremely nervous about how the career will affect our relationships. It's good to know we're not alone. :)
Yes!! And you're definitely not alone! There are so many parents out there rocking law school and dominating their legal careers! I love hearing from Sarah how it's hard work but that she wouldn't have it any other way :)
I’d love to hear how your journey is going! Would also love more parenting videos. This is the number one unknown that I would love to hear more insight on.
@Whitney Warner Hi! It's very busy and I hardly have any time to think. My grades haven't been top level, either. However, when my kids see me getting ready for class and they say "good luck," it just makes my day. I hope I am serving as a good role model for them.
Hi, Jenna! Traditionally there haven't been, but more and more those positions are opening up -- I personally know lawyers with families that work from home 2-3 times a week, some law firms will allow part-time work after you've worked as a full-time associate for a number of years, and if you go out on your own as a contract attorney you could work as much or as little as you want :)
Hi, What is your mom's support group called on facebook? I'm thinking of returning back to law school after taking a leave of absence after I had my baby. Thank you!
My toddler is going to be about 3 when I'll start law school. I am scared but content that I can manage it. However, I would love to get tips and maybe any good advice on managing it successfully. My child is always going to be my main priority and it gives me the horsepower to think that my child will see her mom working hard to reach her dream by managing motherhood and work simultaneously.
Hi Rubi! I actually run a free FB group for law students and prelaw students looking to get clarity and support in their law school journey. There are a lot of nontraditional students in the group and I'm sure you can get some great feedback on handling law school with a small child at home. Would you like the link to join? :)
Thank you for making videos like this! Even though I'm not a mom and won't be for a while, this is a big consideration for things down the line. It's great to get a perspective on this so early.
I'm so glad you found the video valuable!! As someone who doesn't have kids yet either but might one day, I loved hearing Sarah's take on how she planned and maneuvered her career to incorporate parenting into her life, and it gives great insight into.how we can do it too :)
I’m in my final stretch of law school online and I had my daughter and move country and move in country twice. And I can totally relate to what she is saying everyday their is this pressure for u to be a stay at home mom. There is no consideration for you as a mom and ur golds.
That's one of the biggest aspects that stands out to me too -- the pressure to do both, and the feeling of failing if you're not meeting everyone's needs all the time. As someone who has only her career to worry about, I'm so impressed with you guys and I support you 100% on your journey :)
I know you made a video in the past about Big law jobs but I was wondering if you can still earn six figures or over six figures without going to a top 15 school Emory is my first choice but I don’t want to be drowning in Debt.
Heck yes!! Needing to go to a T14 law school to get a biglaw job is a common misconception -- there are big law firms all across the country hiring from law schools in their respective cities and paying their first year associates starting salaries of $180k-$190k. And Emory in particular is very highly ranked school (No. 26) AND in a large market (Atlanta, GA) on top of that.
Hi Claire! I have on the short list a video to do a cross-section of lots of different types of legal practice areas, and I'll see if I can get environmental law in there!
Unfortunately working long hours for years has a toll on health. I worked in a top Indian law firm - within a year I could notice a lot of changes in my body - I had a pot belly, grown fat and digestion problem due to less physical activity
Mothers should be home with their children, not out playing lawyer. Why wouldn’t a mother want to be with her children more? This is not an improvement for women, sorry.
Ouch. Misogynistic much? This incredible women has a law degree and a lengthy career, and all you have to comment is for her to stay home more ? What’s to say the father of the child (who is just as much of a parent as she is) can’t stay home? Since when did “mother” = stay at home and have no career of your own? And how do you, sir/ma’am, know what an “improvement” for 3.8B people should look like? Raise your kids, not somebody else’s.
Being a mom does not mean that women should stop Pursuing their own goals and aspirations. Also, children are not only a women’s responsibility, fathers should play a role in the house too. It’s about balance.
@@vanessacruz9467 Going to work every day when you still have young children is not doing what’s best for the children, and it shows poor judgement if a two-income household isn’t necessary to pay the bills. Also, passing off mom duties to a man is Iazy. Being a mother is more important than “career aspirations.” No amount of sitting in an office is more fulfilling than spending time with your children.
@@s.n.2744 You are calling her “incredible” because she worked instead of staying home with her children? I’d also use a word to describe that situation, but the word wouldn’t be “incredible.”
