With all the Tesla workforce layoffs this week, what do the big car companies know that we don't?

That's a great question! I don't think the push for EV's is gonna go as well as the government thinks..

EVs can be good for local use, but they cost too much to mostly leave parked. Inexpensive electric cars would have a market, but only Chinese puddle jumper EVs could be sold profitably in the U.S.
Battery chemistry will incrementally improve, but a quantum leap in affordability is needed.
In 2024 EVs are great advertising for hybrids.

I've got a prius, they should for sure have busted balls on the hybrid front instead.

BS. People are not swapping EV's for gas cars. This is a petro hit piece full of speculation and wishful thinking.

Agreed - any video that states that Toyota is losing money due to falling EV sales is guaranteed vested interest (petro) because Toyota's main focus is on hybrids, so it's losing nothing! This means that every other statement in this video cannot be trusted - rubbish.

The EV mandate forced ICE manufacturers to invest heavily in EV tech at short notice & are they're losing $Billions.
So why is it that Tesla, with its history of solely making EVs, instigated the slashing of prices & is laying off emp[loyees?
I wish hybrids were seen as the interim standard. They would ease the demand for precious resources and create more job opportunities for workers.

There's a big difference between mandates and incentives. What we have now are incentives.

welll, not so fast, ev sales are up 8% year after year, so this is kinda fale news.

Well, it's relative. Many companies have invested a ton to drastically increase production and have had to scale back significantly since sales did not equal to projections.
