All the scummy practices are leading more and more of us to just buy color ink and printing out our own cards, even former hard core collectors like me.
Hi. I own and run my own LGS and I completely agree. I work a full time job on top of everything and was talking to a co worker about the same problems. It feels like WotC is pissing on us without the courtesy of calling it rain.
I was done with Wizards during Ixalon, I havnt bought a box since. Remember bend gate? when they switched to a cheaper printer to provide a less quality product for a higher profit margin? They also denied that they made any changes when the feel of the cards was completely different. To me that was the writing on the wall for when the mindset changed to be more about the bottom line than producing a good product.
Jumpstart cards definitely feel like proxies now. I ordered a jumpstart card from cardmarket and it looked fake, I normally don't notice stuff like that but even I could tell something was off. I compared it with other jumpstart cards and they all have the same noticeable crap print quality.
Started playing MtG with Unlimited. Game hooked me big time. Used to play around the table, trade, even played a few ante games. No sleeves or play mats 😅 All that said, half of the love came from collecting and making binders for sets. Collecting a set for a binder was fun and felt good to complete. Thats all changed with rapid reprints, and mass variants. I still enjoy the game, but I dont enjoy what its becoming.
They should try and follow the Pokemon model imo. You never feel like you've been screwed when you buy a Pokemon booster, the cards retain value and generally aren't mandatory to have a competitive deck. The standards are extremely diverse too. Oh, and financially it's accessible for new players.
I always feel the worst for the LGS owners in all this. As a long time player, i saw the writing on the wall a year or two ago and quit the game and sold out. Its a lot easier for me. So rough to see people like LGS owners trust in the game with their livelihood and be completely betrayed. Especially when you're the ones responsible for keeping their game alive so long in the first place. Keep it up man, and if you decide to leave MTG i think we'll all understand.
Yeah, the community and the gameplay have carried MTG. Wizards have no influence on the gameplay, ultimately, but they've done everything they can to annihilate the community. Of course in combination of financial methods to prevent newcomers as well.
Years ago, I was in a casino playing a table game - it might have been carribean stud - and an older woman came over to the table. She had blown through $5,000 and had decided to not board her seniors bus back to town to try to win it back. This is what continuing to be involved with M:TG feels like. You're down and making stupid decisions but you feel like it might turn around. Sunk-cost fallacy at its finest. Good luck in the future.
These rants are honestly so good, to get some insights and views from the stores. But I think it’s pretty obvious to most customers as well, just how shitty WotC and Hasbro are. Amazon is a business like any other, they’re not a charity, they won’t just dump products without reason and without still turning over a profit. They’ve dumped so much product there, even the more expensive stuff like collector boxes. And if they have made a profit from doing that, it means their price of purchase must’ve been way lower still. And it f’s shit up for stores who are still sitting on that product, because it’s not super old products that gets dumped on Amazon either. And then we have the “oh yeah we’re totally not looking at the secondary market” statements. And the answer is one of two options; Either they have the insane luck of a monkey at a slot machine that’s only pulling wins, or they are lying. As pretty much with all the products they are making with pre-determined cards, there are a few juicy cards and plenty of bulk, and those valuable cards ofc comes crashing down when everyone gets their hand on reprints. Commander decks are probably the most clear example of it, but even Secret Lair’s are just a bad deal now. If there’s any cards of value, they will be reprinted. Tolarian Community College just brought it up in one of his vids, there’s a card in one of the new secret lairs that are getting reprinted in Wilds of Eldraine, or vice versa. Sure it’s just one of twenty cards, but the fact that you have a card that has recently been reprinted in one of the secret lairs shouldn’t even happen in the first place. It’s just one bad thing after another from WotC, both towards the lgs’ and the customers. And although I don’t think Mtg is gonna die, I think it’s gonna change drastically, as more and more of the “old” or should I say current customer base is gonna dip out. There’s a reason why there are restrictions on how to hunt animals, it goes from fish, wolves, whales, anything you can think of. And that’s to make sure the population remains healthy. And normally it’s just one thing that’s unbalanced, hunting too many wolves leads to too big deer populations. But WotC and Hasbro are just hunting everything, they hunt whales, sharks and fish, and whatever the lgs might be, octopus perhaps, as they would need all those arms to hold one of each Mtg product. Soon enough they will have emptied the ocean of customers. Only being left with the small new fish that occasionally finds their way in. It’s not sustainable, but WotC and Hasbro are so disconnected from the real world, and think they are too big to fail. But it is as the saying goes, the bigger they are the harder they fall. And it’s weird how little WotC care for lgs’ feedback. Trying to keep them from talking about price settings and such. Why not just have a fixed price for the distributors, and have a fixed markup for lgs’ so that no matter the size of the store you get the same price so that everyone can operate on a fair level. And although I get why buying/selling between stores might be iffy, it’s dumb to chose to hammer it home when, in the example, a store is just trying to help the other out by sharing some inventory so that events can be held properly. It’s to benefit the customers, not the stores. I think it’s really important that this all is put out there, and it’s good that stores do vlogs like these. Big corps shouldn’t get away with this level of scummy behaviour.
There is a big time competitive card game player I know who used to play Modern Format. He gave up MTG completely and went to Flesh and Blood and One Piece because of Wizards of the Coast's actions in the past few years.
Wizards has been cashing out for years. People should have realized this with 'secret lairs', Iconic Masters, double masters. Hasbro fall likely started with the fall of 'toys r us' bankruptcy in 2017/2018. Think of all the stuff Toys r us purchased. ten of millions in revenue, gone. Hasbro purchased 'Lionsgate' for 4 billion. Sold for 500 million. 3.5 Billion gone. Acquired 'Atari' name at some point. I do not think they did anything with that name. Now, how many products does Hasbro have that people want? .\\:tG, My little Pony, anything else? Instead of weak and strong set being rotated. Now its sets get better and better to drive sales. So the cards in the game are too powerful. Whoever thought it would good idea to have a creature with both 'First Strike & Death Touch' is bad at design. Then a couple of phyrexian single handed crush 2 colour outright. etc. etc
I feel you brother no doubt. I thought it was funny I logged onto Arena and seen them firesaling the sleeves I got because I purchased a Secret Lair. I was like wtf, Wizards will never find the end of low blows. Our best hope is someone buys them from Hasbro and fires the uppers.
Sounds like a great opportunity for game stores to diversify. Though at this point I'd wonder how many haven't already with the way things have been going over the past several years.
They’ve been offering these for a while (Philadelphia, Barcelona) although the offering has been a bit different each time (usually including the convention edition of mystery boosters)
I hate that everything you said is true. What a horribly greedy pathetic company. They pushed me and my friends to Sorcery Contested Realm and were happy. It's sad that the game we love is in this horrible state. We spent so much every month on Mtg.......ever since Sorcery Contested Realm came out we spent 0. 0!!!
Hello there! I'm an independent RPG developer and I just want to say, we indies have your back! VTTs are a great tool for connecting players, but games are best played in person and the FLGS is vital to our hobbies.
Years ago when Hasbro bought WotC I remember thinking how the old energy that made TSR and later WotC so great would be stomped to death by their corporate overlord digging for profit. And here we are. As bad as I feel for the players, I feel extreme sorrow for LGS owners.
i quit magic in 2014ish I think. Card quality went bad and the whole kerfuffle with conviced p33dos working as judges and how they tried to hide it was a no go for me. I recently learned the crazy gimmicks they have been doing. Of course I watched the magic 30th and one ring fiascos too. I hope wizards just goes to dust. Either let some empassioned people at that point try to reboot it down the line. Or maybe see if hasbro will just sell off the IP at that point. I quit once as a kid when the power spike of mirrodin made my entire collection unplayable, and going into the 08 depression I definately had nothing to go on anymore. I didn't play any games in 2007 as my family got hit hard early from the financial crisis, up to around 2012 when I got back into magic, however briefly that was. Very sad to see it go this way thanks to awful people in that company. And then the irony of pokemon seeming to change their tune and make playing the game a higher priority seems to be starting to happen. Its funny because they seem to not care how much product to print, just to get it out there so that the playable cards aren't too expensive. But I've yet to get in on the actual game nights near me, so I'm going off what people tell me. I may be wrong. Either way, I always loved how Magic played, so its sad. But I suspect it will survive through people playing older formats with homemade printed cards or buying beat up old cards second hand, which I would enjoy if the prices aren't terrible. I know for me, that when I find my old mtg cards, I'll break out my old decks and revel in nostalgia. They were just built with what I traded for or pulled from packs. Far from competitive. But memorable playing with friends. For now, I'll just work on getting to play pokemon. And I will hope that magic and wizards go bankrupt soon so that it forces them to go dormant until true fans can get their hands on the game somehow. But it will be a slow and painful decline that already is going on too long. Hopefully hasbro just closes it all down before it becomes too much of a liability and sells it off to preserve their revenue.
There is way too much product, I can't keep up. I also don't have much disposable income. I mostly play Arena for free occasionally, and hit up a pre-release once or twice a year, if that
Wotc has four economist on staff. Do you really think they are just monitoring the local economy or world economy for wotc? They are following the card markets
Just sold our entire collection of MTG. Done. Had tons of high end RL and sealed stuff. MTG 30th was the deciding factor. We would much rather have the smaller games/dead stuff.
Its gotten to the point where I wont paper draft anymore its just not financially feasible. I play on arena and it just buy the mastery pass, if draft is fun I might throw $20 over the course of a set. the paper focus of commander was neat until you had to drink from the firehose of products to even play the game. I do still go to prerelease at my lgs.
Board members don't care about any of this. They will step down, go to another company and vote each other into another board while gifting each other shares. There's a federal site you can follow them on and watch all of these people just move from corporation to corporation and what "gifts" their giving and receiving.
Let him cook! Love these rants. Ask your viewers to subscribe bro. Your getting alot of traffic on these for such a small channel, maximize it if you can. Great work overall on these, ty for finding the time.
Removed their own distribution to stores as well when they went through Amazon. I blame Cocks. I worried about this after he got promoted from WOTC to Hasbro
I say get more into Pokemon. They been improving on prize support for stores and players. Just this past week they doubled their prize support money. 10 grand for winning a regional pretty good for kids game. Making online content for Pokemon would be cool. It'll be cool content if you do former pro mtg player going pro on Pokemon. Once I saw mtg disband the pro circuit I pretty much checked out and knew the direction they were going. Good luck
I have not and will never buy a secret lair and I won't own any cards after all will be one, I have now turned to the proxy for all deck building but for events at local game store but only formats like premodern, and will buy old singles that I like but nothing more
As much as Hasbro/WOTC screws up with MTG and D&D, no matter what happens the rich people will stay rich but its always everyone else that suffers and theres the core problem. Rich people/businesses can extract as much money as possible out of a product like MTG, then when it starts dying its the product that's blamed and not their destructive practices. Then they move on to the next money maker they can latch on to and the process repeats...
Just my opinion - people like your videos because you are real. You are not the typical hype machine channel, Lord knows there are way too many of them! Plus you have dogs. Great combination! Keep up the good work!
This new mic setup is way worse with you moving around and bumping the wire. I would drop wizards like a bad habit and teach the players that there's other fun games, question blood sorcery Ascension. There's a lot of options these days
This last thing they did with eldraine was just sooo scummy. Putting pritty much every playable enchantment from the past 10+ years into every booster pack is such a spit in the face. Oh you bought ANY enchantment that's 10+ dollars during the past few years? Well screw you! We are gonna make them aaaaalll worthless, hahahahaha suckers!
I tried Flesh and Blood, so-so, Lorcana, no product and gameplay is limited. Friend brought over Socery, and wowie was a blast after I learned, but then saw no product.
Not that FFG has a better reputation, but Str wars unlimited looks amazing so far, March 2024 estimated release. FFG has done some great things to show that they care for this game so far
This is who runs corporate America. These are the people who are allowed to do whatever they want with zero consequences. The suits needs to literally not be able to eat . Magic needs to become open source and all power, brand and identity needs to be forcefully stripped from Hasbro. This is why piracy is important.
Cannot agree more with you. I sold my MTG because of WotC policies. I love the game but hate the direction they are taking. Switching to Flesh and Blood, they are the opposite of WotC.
I understand you being upset. But if you didn't see all this coming it's on you. My play group and every other play group out there talk about this and the future of magic. We saw this coming 4 years ago but covid delayed it 2 year's.
I feel you man, as a YGO fanatic. Konami is also complete garbage, and now not even Takahashi can curb them anymore cause he’s dead Wish all us TCG people, whether store owners or customers or whatever for any TCG, can band together and get them all to change Wishful thinking, but it’d be worth a try for the hobby we all love and share
I haven't been super successful but things I've learned while trying to expand the games is to know the rules and have test decks. Magic has a pretty good rule system and easy flow but things like flesh and blood do not. So knowing how the rules work makes it seem more accessible. Then the test decks use one mechanic at a time. This is a way to break them into the game and show them how different zones and timings work in the new
While not nearly the same size as MTG, Flesh and Blood is run by a company that's actively trying to help the LGS. You should take a look into the game, it's on the rise
Wotc lost all my respect, I used to spend big on both mtg and dnd, both so good, with such a great lore and history. They lost many thousands of dollars yearly on me. I think the dnd community handled them better than the magic community sadly, idk if magic will make it, and if not, the entire tcg field is in danger
Ngl man... I'm 36, been gaming since I was a teenager, and if I'm honest? I haven't seen a D&D product get released in MY ENTIRE LIFE that I felt was worth paying for, let alone the price they were asking. If I'm being honest, I feel like people who 'spend big' on gaming stuff - that in my opinion was pretty garbage the entire time - are part of the reason gaming has become so garbage. You don't need to buy a splatbook because its released. You don't need to buy a new edition because its released. When you do these things, regardless of their quality, chasing the trends, you motivate and incentivize the exact behaviors and outcomes that people are now complaining about, and its man, its just all so tiresome...
Magic isn’t the only tcg. I get it we all liked it and you and a lot of other people are invested in it. But what is it going to take for you to start pushing only other games to your community and drop the parasite.
Honestly? You have to do what's best for your business. They don't give a crap about you. You got people to pay and feed. Cut back on them, and don't sign another contract. Magic is a great game, but the company is in the toilet right now. Treat them like what they are.
Magic is making the most money ever at the same time their producing the most sub-par product since Fallen Empires. I doubt that Wizards is learning anything we complain about. lol They are getting positive re-enforcement for their current behavior. Are you upset well how about a 7$ collectors pack dump on Amazon? lol this strategy seems to work they run out of Amazon product every time...
@@BitcoinMoonShot but they have lost a lot. Hasbro has lost a lot of stock value, and stores are ordering less. They are grossing a lot more money, but when you look at the cost of making sets, r and d, their margins are not coming any farther ahead. They are actually burning out their markets, and it's showing in their results. Stocks are down, stores are ordering less. Amazon is a fire sale, so they are not making money there. This is an unsustainable model.
@@JoshuaPantalleresco I agree with everything you said and I still think they are going to learn a completely different lesson and will ignore the creators and fan base. Every time I listen to them talk they make fun of the loudest complaints and completely do the opposite of we expect. I understand why everyone is mad. I'm just saying these exec's think differently than you and I. They are following the pricing models of other gaming companies not fan complaints . In the Army we used to say "If the privates are bitching, it means their happy." So far the same goes with Magic the Gathering. It doesn't feel good and this isn't an investment product is my only reply.
They stole 400+ dollars from me don't support I'm enjoying watching them fail. Sorcery & Magic will ruin your life do something better you have unlimited potential
Quitting magic isn't rolling over. I think that is your ego talking. Continuing to support and buy product as a game store is rolling over and letting them have it. Because it is telling them that you will take it. You are okay with being disrespected. And they can do whatever they want.
Pokémon dumped WoTC 20 years ago. WoTC has gotten worse over the years. They will not get better. You fight for them and they spit in your face. Balls in your court.
Evolve and move on. The corporate greed won’t change and the ones who will get hurt are the LCS, players, and collectors. There are new TCGs coming out all the time; Flesh & Blood, Sorcery, etc. Stick to Pokémon all the way!
1 don't worship false idols they at best will disappoint & at worst ruin your life. This is so sad so much wasted potential this guy not this stupid card game this guy is wasting his brain potential on My greatest success was failing at opening my card store dreams become nightmares & most of this nerd stuff is invoking demons in your life
From what I see you need to ignore the mask mandate crap and have space to organize in store games with buyins. Thats how you raise money and create sales for your LGS.
The mic clicking sounds like a Geiger counter, lol ☢️
That's his rage counter 😂
It’s reacting to the toxic levels of radiation coming from Mtg xD
All the scummy practices are leading more and more of us to just buy color ink and printing out our own cards, even former hard core collectors like me.
Damn, these rants have been fire lately. And a new wotc skrewup to rant about every day. Straight A+ 😂
I say let 'em have it! 😤

For the Vegas chaos draft package...chaos draft means random packs WOTC can't sell because they have too much inventory. It's a grab bag of crap.
I'd go rogue and drop the WPN status and get products from 3rd party sources. I was looking into starting a shop and that's what I looking into.

Legend story studios (fkesh and blood) is the only company prioritizing lgs as strategic partners. Great game, just not big enough to survive on
EXACTLY, they are doing a great job!

Heads need to roll before MTG will get better. Maybe I am stupid for stubbornly sticking around, but I am not ready to give up on it yet.

Spot on. You are not alone.
Wotc has four economist on staff. Do you really think they are just monitoring the local economy or world economy for wotc? They are following the card markets
Well, they are failing miserably.
I've been having this argument with myself for a while. I love the game of Magic, but I hate WotC.

Why do ppl feel the need to "keep up" with a casual format?
You be you man. Always enjoy the content. And I don’t even play magic. Lol.
Board members don't care about any of this. They will step down, go to another company and vote each other into another board while gifting each other shares. There's a federal site you can follow them on and watch all of these people just move from corporation to corporation and what "gifts" their giving and receiving.
The way WOTC has screwed the retailers is very similar to how Marvel and DC screwed the comics retailers.
Never seen a company fumble the bag more than Wizards of the coast have. People should protest at Magic Vegas, this is getting too much now
Whales hunted to extinction in yet another ocean!
hope you look into grand archive.. it's a really fun new game.
When will we get a Chloe cam?
Good luck
Recent inflation has just about doubled the process of everything so...meh
*Price
Better be careful that this discounted deal doesn't come with Pinkertons coming to your house
I love the direction magic is heading because I get cheap cards to play at home
Was that a Dragons Maze prerelease kit? That’s like over 20 years old😅. Sellin it?
to both you and Zach.
I have not and will never buy a secret lair and I won't own any cards after all will be one, I have now turned to the proxy for all deck building but for events at local game store but only formats like premodern, and will buy old singles that I like but nothing more
Good transparency thanks
I can concur as an online store for MTG. It has been DIFFICULT to say the least.
Thank you for this!
12:35 "no knucks" haha, this is going strange directions & your dog seems to be concerned about you.
Why not do a website with one page, and run weekend sales to clear product quickly.
I moved to FaB. I also left D&D.
Good luck
This last thing they did with eldraine was just sooo scummy. Putting pritty much every playable enchantment from the past 10+ years into every booster pack is such a spit in the face. Oh you bought ANY enchantment that's 10+ dollars during the past few years? Well screw you! We are gonna make them aaaaalll worthless, hahahahaha suckers!
yeesh .50 for rest in peace , .10 impact tremors... I want to say buy buy buy but I can't trust WotC not to just reprint them 10 times in 2024
The set only sold because of those "list " reprints, the set couldn't sell itself. Hence the return to every set ever printed
Have you seen Sorcery TCG. It's a blast to play and the art is amazing.
I tried Flesh and Blood, so-so, Lorcana, no product and gameplay is limited. Friend brought over Socery, and wowie was a blast after I learned, but then saw no product.
They stole 400+ dollars from me so I'm enjoying watching them fail. Magic & Sorcery will ruin your soul go do something better you have more potential
@alfredocamba1995 No one stole from you. Every time I hear is that there is a miscommunication somewhere.
its not all WOTC. In a recession / depression economically, luxury good purchases really take a huge hit. Guess what we are currently in
Not that FFG has a better reputation, but Str wars unlimited looks amazing so far, March 2024 estimated release. FFG has done some great things to show that they care for this game so far
it all ended at black aragorn.
This is who runs corporate America. These are the people who are allowed to do whatever they want with zero consequences. The suits needs to literally not be able to eat . Magic needs to become open source and all power, brand and identity needs to be forcefully stripped from Hasbro. This is why piracy is important.
The clicking sounds were really distracting
Cannot agree more with you. I sold my MTG because of WotC policies. I love the game but hate the direction they are taking. Switching to Flesh and Blood, they are the opposite of WotC.
I understand you being upset. But if you didn't see all this coming it's on you. My play group and every other play group out there talk about this and the future of magic. We saw this coming 4 years ago but covid delayed it 2 year's.
Its on Wizards, not him, no victim blaming lol wtf
I feel you man, as a YGO fanatic.
Konami is also complete garbage, and now not even Takahashi can curb them anymore cause he’s dead
Wish all us TCG people, whether store owners or customers or whatever for any TCG, can band together and get them all to change
Wishful thinking, but it’d be worth a try for the hobby we all love and share
I tried to support my store but modern stopped firing.
4:16 - WHAT! 9000!?
You need to start looking into Pokémon. It’s the opposite of wizards of the north west east coast.
🙋♂️ As a store owner how do you push other card games your customers might not have any interest in? Magic is hard to wing people off of.
It needs a casual multiplayer format „like“ commander..then we in my town would start the game.
@@Dexstar9There is a multiplayer Flesh and Blood product that Tolarian CC worked on releasing at the end of the month!
Just buy the product dumps instead of paying full price ... Da! That's what everyone else has been doing for the last 12-18 months.
WOTC has damaged its own brand. Burnt players, collectors, fans, distributors and stores. I hope the cash grab was worth it.
You should definitely close the store.
The more this goes on the more i think the entire dnd and magic community needs to boycott wotc products untill Hasbro sells wotc
If there was a online petition for Hasbro to sell WOTC, I would sign it. Their business tactics need a complete overhauling.
Jump ship or legal action for anti consumer monopolistic practices. Those are your realistic options. Now is the worst time businesses that stock MTG
The peons will never succeed in lawfaring a company like hasbro. They are part of the hochfinanz ruling class and we live in a plutocracy
It’s not wotc. This is a direct result of selling out to the soulless people at hasbro.
I've never seen someone who wishes he was Alpha Investments more than this guy
Time to pivot to Lorcana 😅
Probably time to start trying cut back the magic and getting other games established in your store.
Magic isn’t the only tcg. I get it we all liked it and you and a lot of other people are invested in it. But what is it going to take for you to start pushing only other games to your community and drop the parasite.
Hope you figure it out, your gonna have to get creative bro.
WotC spits in your face.
Want to save the game, stop buying it.
Great speech, not a rant. Good calling out WOTC, they do not deserve LGS loyalty any longer
We would love to sell our products to you. If interested let us know, we distribute out own products.
Its ok man. I get why u are so angry 😢
It doesn't feel good and this isn't an investment product is my only reply.
stopped buying mtg a year ago. Putting my hopes on Sorcery!
I hear you, but I have been more involved with this game than 99% of the derps at WotC...
The clicking is making me insane, ahhh
We really need to boycott wizards of the coast. I'm down. We need to get this started.
Sell MTG buy FAB
F WOTC
I was going to subscribe but there are too many videos just complaining about nothing and no interesting content.
1 don't worship false idols they at best will disappoint & at worst ruin your life.
This is so sad so much wasted potential this guy not this stupid card game this guy is wasting his brain potential on
My greatest success was failing at opening my card store dreams become nightmares & most of this nerd stuff is invoking demons in your life
From what I see you need to ignore the mask mandate crap and have space to organize in store games with buyins. Thats how you raise money and create sales for your LGS.
Wizards owns you and you are mad.
So you are mad because players got cheaper cards? Ok there
