There will probably be helicopters flying in and around NYC for a long time, but this type of aircraft will be added into the mix. Thanks for watching!
Very cool. My main concern, however, is security. There's no barrier between the passenger and the flight controls. With Uber/Lyft drivers having to worry about beligerent passengers or being robbed, what's stopping that from happening in what would then be the cockpit of an aircraft?
Valid concern- one that likely won’t be addressed unless regulators step in. And you know how that goes in this country, so we will just have to wait for a high profile incident to happen or for rich people to be directly affected.
Attractive design. So, an electric Osprey Uber? Lots of moving parts. And the battery: thermal runaway on the runway? Or worse, en route. Seems like more SDG7-rhymes-with-WTC7 greenflation cash gone with the wind. Zero gummint subsidies, right?
Bonny Simian sure gets some exercise with those hands. Surely the contrast to the huge throughput of passengers in the train station shows the impracticality of this mega expensive and yet sluggish device, almost no one 'commutes' by helicopter so why compare to rhem?
can it fly in windy conditions ? I doubt it. the problem is its a small market and not going to be mainstream so will not make people rich investing in this, you could not have too many in the air over a city as it would be dangerous and not possible, so comparing it to a taxi is not a true picture. there are many thousands of taxis.
There is a small baggage compartment behind the cabin, accessed through a door on the side of the aircraft. Pax probably won't be able to take large bags, but those that are overheard bin size will work. Thanks for watching!
@AINvideo I assume one 30" carry on plus one book against per person. Lillium is gonna cost $7mil to $10 mil each. You can buy 10 new Hill helicopters per one Lillium. What is the cost of 1 Joby?
Joby is planning to operate this aircraft itself as an airline, so the company will be selling tickets rather than full aircraft, at least at first. The advantage that eVTOLs have over traditional helicopters is that they will be able to operate in urban environments without producing the noise level that you'd hear from a large helicopter rotor. Thanks for commenting, we appreciate it.
And if you say, customer experience one more time, your customers are going to vomit. The reality is you’re not going to have 400 of these things. You’ll be able to transport very few people and once New York City gets their financial hooks into you. The thing will cost $300 to get you to the airport. So just stop. It’s going to be for the very wealthy. My guess is you know how many departures there are in one day at Kennedy. How many aircraft are you going to need to service 5% of those customers. This is another ridiculous use case.
This is going to all go to hell the second someone gets on one of these as a passenger and assaults the pilot…and crashes. The intent of the passenger doesn’t even matter. This thing is a massive liability waiting to happen.
Do you think they will carry rich Arabs around the hot desert with no airconditioner before they can carry dead weight here in America? They might have a taxi service in dubai but it will be with normal conventional aircraft. Dubai is where vaporware goes to die.
There is a reason why Trump didn't put Musk in charge of Transportation. We would be flying in choas. Works in boutique cities such as Dubai and Hong Kong.
Stop saying zero Emmissions it makes you sound stupid. Electric power does not have zero emissions. There’s inefficiency and it comes majority from fissile fuels. So stop. Can be amazing without your utopian pipe dreams.
Revolutionize commuting? Hah, Hah, Hah, Hah, Hah! If your serious, then I'll laugh even harder. Simple equations like passenger density and relative energy consumption will tell you that EVTOL is inherently incapable of revolutionizing commuting. EVs are not much better. Ultimately, the optimal way to commute is mass transit. There's a REASON why airliners carry hundreds of people. Economies of scale and space efficiency are useful things to have.
BJT is Business Jet Traveler (www.bjtonline.com). It is AIN's consumer-oriented publication, whereas Aviation International News and FutureFlight are more trade-oriented. Thanks for watching!
The only "use case" they talk about is from a vertiport to an airport - exactly the same faults as the plagued airline 'hub and spoke' model that forces you to go to THEIR chosen start point and destination not YOURS and further this n NOT commutting (as in going to work, school, shopping etc which is daily -twice- or happens hundreds of times a year unlike the infrequent airline trip . Claiming to relieve daily traffic jams with a multimillion dollar vehicle with your personal pilot on the payroll cannot possibbly do anything for road congestion even if marginally better for the .001% of the population who can afford the cost (about the existing helicopter/bizjet market ) Urban and SUBurban (where the average working/commutting people live) air mobility, really saving time and hassle IS possible but NOT by battery powered VTOL using massive wasted power and real emissions back at the power station. Having spent 50 years working towards the real viabe solution (ATOL and true door to door "flying car" analog to the present ground car personal useful vehicle) I find the untrue hype and misnaming of these contraptions as either flying cars or flying taxis to be deceptive and damaging to the real technology that can deliver the "Jetsons" vision that they exploit shamelessly. And the Joby (Bievert S4) IS quite noisey in take off and landing mode,- near ground and where people are, you cannot land at "1000 feet" so the enroute noise is not the issue.
They got all the chicks doing "Jazz Hands" and using all the right cliché catch words like sustainable, stress, environmentally friendly, Uber....etc.... I'll still take a Sikorsky S76C++ and pass them in the air like they were going the other way.

Im a proud investor of Joby!
Me too mate. Few bob with Archer as well.
Oh boy. What level did you get in at?
@jasonatkins1467 At the end of this month will mark a year. I came in at 5.08
@@migueljordan36 JOBY - Came in @ 5.10.
Archer - came in @ 4.9. Bought a shedload more in the recent dip @ 2.94
Watch out for Lilium... Best design out there. And with more scope.
These are the ones flying over at night?
Aircraft can also fly at night
Yep! These are the mysterious drones being spotted at night. Whenever I mention it in the New York Times comment section, my comment is censored.
Exciting tech! Long overdue! ❤
I’ll sure miss the old fashioned helicopter noise over NYC but this is quieter than a normal helicopter 🚁

Soon they will be autonomous. Not a problem.
Love the exciting new future transport your building😊
I wonder how would learn how to fly one of these and what license you'd need ot get.
Does it come in black?
Is it certified yet?
MS flight sim 2024. Has the Joby. I have flight sim flown it several hours. Very interesting.
I would add a backup parachute on top in case all else fails
Attractive design. So, an electric Osprey Uber?
Lots of moving parts.

I doubt Tesla, Amazon, Apple, bitcoin, etc would make people rich... Oh wait.
This can be evolution for new generation transport
Taking 4 passengers to the airport. Where the hell are all their bags going to go? I see 5 seats but no baggage area.

Only 4 propellers , others have more for backup emergency
If two engines right next to each other fail, well...
What about luggage?
exactly... part that's being left out.
It was removed last week.
joby atyr achv ...lets goooooo
Just so cool!

i see the problem with this will be baggage? This is great for someone traveling with a carry on, but nothing more
I wonder if you ate going to have to have a pilots license to fly one

Seems like Miami would have been a good choice. NY and LA are both a mess
Super bullish. Strong buy signal

Don’t be a hater
It's not a uber
Uber is a major partner in Joby
an
JOBY owns Uber Elevate. Do some homework.
stop trying to make this a thing. it will never be a thing
