Welcome,
In this segment of the build series the secondary hull is almost fully assembled and is now mounted on the kit supplied base. I have finished all of the primary color painting on the hull
along with all of the wiring and lighting in it. I can now move on to painting the aztec panels and other details.
During the video I talked about how some of the wiring was done. I have the model setup so I can operate the separate lighting effects with switches and explained how I installed and tested the circuits.
Also a quick demo of using canopy glue for filling in light leaks and using it to fill in the window ports after painting.
Up next more painting and adding some more electronics.
What a blast from the past! Before there was acrylic putty, before there was solar res, there was canopy glue!
Great videos and awesome ends results. I'm attempting the K 7 space station right now as a gift for my son. It is the first model I've attempted light on. Never would have tried without watching your videos first. Thanks for the great types.
Shuttle Bay looks great. The red lighting and blues for the turbo lifts in the bay contrast nicely and can be seen very nicely. The tip trick of the day is very helpful.
Boyd, you do such great work! Thanks for bringing me back after nearly 25 years. I like your videos and the great tips of the day. I have just really enjoyed watching this project and I have learned so much. What a great model!
Very nice Boyd. Glad you showed how to use the canopy glue. It's coming along nicely.
Thanks for the "tip of the day" - using the Canopy glue for windows. I've was going to use the method as in Don's Light and Magic which involves taping the exterior and adding resin from the inside. Your method is so much easier, and it enables me to fully assemble the model and paint at one go.
Mike, I'll be ready to start getting those paints out to people soon.
Glad your building one of these. You'll really enjoy it.
ty boyd for pointing out some things on the lighting. Appreciate it.
Great update Boyd. Lot's of great info in all your videos. Thanks for sharing your experience with us. And, I'm really diggin' the Scorpions in the background. :)
I look forward to your videos every week
Thanks buddy. This thing tends to reel you in. I can't leaver her alone and am spending almost every spare minute working on it. :)
Thanks Boyd for the window tip, it looks great!
hey william. boyd gave me an excellent idea from Home Depot. they have these small pressurized cans with screw on bottles that you can use for the painting. I've been using them and taking my time and it's working great. They are about $25 for a starter kit in the paint dept.
Outstanding work!
Lookin great Boyd.im gonna put Scotty mowing the grass in mine just for you lol
Yes I have used it before. Depends on what you use it for when you mask with it.
I've found that it sometimes is difficult to remove without leaving some residue.
Good old Elmers glue works the same and comes off much easier.
William I'm sure you'll do a great job on your kit. I would love to see it when you get her built.
Scorpians baby!
When I was a kid, I got a light up model of the Enterprise A from a friend. Unfortunately It was too complex for me at that age :( I like WW2 Era ship models now, but It would be nice to find another Enterprise LED model.
It's a semi gloss base white. I'm doing the ship as the STTMP version and it had a base white with pearl aztec colors over it.
Awsome job Boyd, I am still anxiously awaiting the arrival of my refit and paragrafix. It hasbeen a long time. Hoping my skills are not too rusty. Still kinda wondering about your pearl paints! Good Day!
The base of the movie Enterprise looks a lot like part of the floating orbital drydock that starfleet ships are often moored to. have you considered expanding the display base and creating a drydock to house the ship in? That would be super cool!
A nice set of tips!
Great Video Great Info !!!
It sure does and it's basically the same thing only it doesn't dry quite as clear.
I know this video is old but have you ever tried to use rubber cement or liquid drawing gum for masking off tight areas? We used to use it for airbrushing back in the day. Comes up pretty easy with a rubber cement pick-up square.
Assembly of her is going well but there are sill many hours of aztec masking and paint ahead.
For those reddish beacons over the hangar door ( I like to imagine it's an observation lounge, wouldn't THAT be a view?) have you considered using liquid masking film? I had some nice results with MrMaskingSol, although there mustn't be ANY gaps between the 'glass' and the hull or the film will creep in between, and the stuff is bright green!
Look for a you tube video called Battle In the Mutara Nebula. You'll see a really nice 350 Scale Reliant that was built with the refit saucer. It's outstanding and you'll be surprised at how it was done.
This is coming together well, man.By the way, what tunes are rocking to in the background?Sure sounds familiar.:-)
Looks great :)
I want to start mine. I thought I had no more interest in models untill I started waching this cannel with Toms and Steves channels. With a house full of models -its time to start building!
I wounder if anyone has made a scrach built Reliant from the refit base model? 1/350 Reliant anyone?
Thank you for these vids Sir
Boyd. Easy question on paint. On the base white for the ship are you using a standard white or a pearl white that the instructions recommend?
How has the older version of the movie Enterprise worked out for you? was it easier or harder to work on in comparison to the newer model? I'll have to get the newer kit and see for myself when I get a chance.
Hey Boyd,
Thanks again for the refresher using the canopy glue for light leaks and windows. One thing about filling windows, you had mentioned that it fills it in flush, but it almost looks as though it goes in and sets sort of concaved, or bellowed. is that not so? Also, I am thinking about using this for my Voyager windows, however they don't sit vertical on the saucer, there more lying flat. Would this technique still work even though they lay flat? Please let me know. Thanks.
I thought so! Yeah buddy!!
Somebody has to mow that space grass lol!
Hi,
sorry, i do not understand english so very well, i do not understand the trick with the Canopy glue, especially the steps you work.
1. put the glue on the windwow.
2. paint the ship/car/.....
3.let the glue dry????
4. ???
Please give me an advise!
Thanks
Hans
Elmers glue works also for filler
Hello. Just curious if you use the 8" pin plug threaded mounting post for your Enterprise from Orbital Drydock?
I have one of those but have not used it yet.
