I have this on DVD. I had to get it after I saw this when it first aired. What a fabulous group. Emmy Lou's hair is absolutely stunning. I hope my hair freys like that.
I was lucky enough to sit on the Etown stage when Patty and Shawn played. I was the liaison on stage that listening on headphones, had to be absolutely silent on stage left. Those were the days. Blessings to you both I love singing your songs you have gotten me through hard times and wonderful times. Patty I hope you don’t mind, I went into the studio 2017 and did an a cappella cover of your up to the mountain. I’ve been looking for this for years. Saw it on PBS and remember being transfixed, by the beauty and honesty of their music. I knew all the women before, but had never heard of Buddy Miller. He really makes that mandolin sing in the song with Shawn Colvin. Thanks for posting, would love to see the rest of the show.
This video is a gem! The 1st real band I ever sat in with was "The Millstone Valley Boys" Band of Steve "Buddy" Miller's in the early 1970's Princeton, NJ. He's also one of the finest people I've ever known.
Clickable Set List 01:12 Blackhawk (Emmylou Harris) 05:22 Love Throw a Line (Patty Griffin) 09:18 Polaroids (Shawn Colvin) 15:11 Shelter Me (Buddy Miller w/Patty Griffin) What a perfect quartet of songs! (Where's the rest?)
She's more like a song writer's best friend, an interpreter of songs if you will. She's only written a handful or two of songs on her own, most of them pretty memorable, Boulder to Birmingham and Prayer in Open D come to mind. But she does have a hell of a voice whether she's out front or harmonizing it's unbelievable.
As originally aired, this show was at least twice as long as this. Maybe a full hour? There's a link out there somewhere. So damn good. I think it may have been on this tour that he found out he needed open heart surgery.
This is about my 10th view .. All 4 give wonderful performances, but I'm not really sure Shawn Colvin is really into the 'Ladies Drum Corps' thing. --- But the performances are GREAT.

That’s a real fine group of artists on that stage.👍👍🇨🇦
My musical education has been lacking for years. Just 'found' Buddy, and then this thru a blind search. He is better than I have words to describe.
His body of work is pretty exceptional and his wife, Julie, is a hell of a songwriter. They are two of my most favorite people on the planet.
@@mlwsf Buddy and Shawn Colvin were also in a band in NYC in 1980.
Dave Alvin once said, "Every time I hear Buddy play, I feel I should go home and practice".
Shawn Colvin is so pure. An incredible musician/vocalist.
Perfection 👌🏼
Woulda been nice to see Julie in there..❤

This high level of music puts a polish on my personal quality of life.

Saw them do this show at Massey Hall, Toronto. Saw many shows there but this is one of the most memorable.

Shawn sings so clearly with well-constructed melodies and progessions.
That resonator Guitar has an incredible sound to it !
This is awesome!
Love Emmylou Harris from Limerick. Ireland 🇮🇪 👍
Patty is awesome!
Emmy Lou, song writer beyond the pale.....and the angel voice!
