My first time watching. I had to see it run. My parents wanted to move from Philadelphia to the newly built suburban community of Levittown Pennsylvania in 1952...but there was no train service for Dad to get to his job at a bank. So his boss lent him $50 to buy a car... and it was a 50 Chevy. Sure looked like one. I only saw a picture because I wasn't born until 1954. I know it was green and white top, that body style, and Mom was preggers with me when she learned how to drive in it and took her driver's test.

Just a little tip for future reference when you want to clean an oil pan that has alot of sludge buildup try using diesel fuel people used to flush them with kerosine but with the price of that now days diesel works just as well!

Good job! Amazing it runs. Your squirt bottle you can’t have a vent hole or when you squeeze no pressure. Open the tip a bit and it will drawn back in fast when not being squeezed.

wow. Incredible how you managed to bring that motor back to life :-). As for the Champagne :-). We had a vintage bottle bought for us several years ago. Filmed my partner opening it as we thought the cork would flu out of sight. It just fell on the floor with a pathetic plop lol.

*England calling*……Theoretically, no one should have attempted that engine, logically, nope, nope, nopitty nope it should not have run. I am amazed that you got it loose, let alone fire it up with no adjustment on anything, not even new gaskets!! Are you ‘The engine whisperer’?, fair shout fella & lady you blew me away on that one, love to get you over here in a scrap yard & see what you could get running!! 😮

    • @whattherust

Thanks Steve. We have never been to a UK junkyard. It would be quite an experience I am sure. I agree it was ridiculous how soon it fired after the work was done. That carb was full of water, yet a quick no parts rebuild fixed it! Crazy.

This car looks exactly alike of a 1950 chevrolet Styleline Deluxe my great great grandfather had and parked it in the woods at my family's campsite. Its looking decent like this but windows have bullet holes and shattered glass. The back window was shattered. My grandfather told me he first learned how to drive in that car.
And now the rear driver side door is stuck open

Greetings, from the UK, Richard and Christina, I have now watched quite a few of your vids, but this one was a real cliff hanger. On this occasion, I seriously thought you were wasting your time, but I obviously I was badly wrong. The amount of water that came out of the sump was incredible. Your tenacity and perseverance is commendable!! Chevys were obviously made indestructible!! I look forward to more vids. In the meantime, Best Wishes to you both. Roy W

I share in your excitement in getting the old stovebolt running. Though it's not hitting on all six, once it has a water-pump and radiator, and a few run cycles, that will improve. Does'nt appear the Powerglide is with the program. It's inspiring that your lovely lady shares your enthusiasm for your old-car pass-time. My ex-wife not only disparaged my old-car habit, but actively sabotaged my efforts at times. You're a lucky guy !
