    Nice Model! Great flying and a great landing to boot! Spit Fires are narrow geared and can be a challenge...I'm shocked that the DA150 flew it with that much authority. Good thing you fly it with a two blade...Most viewers don't understand the power loss with a scale 4 blade! You did a great job and thanks for posting!

    • @EssentialRC
      @EssentialRC  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for the feedback. Not my model obviously but I agree with what you are saying. I was surprised the DA150 pulled it around so well. No need for a 4 blade. You can't tell when the prop is spinning anyways. Cheers Dom (Essential RC)

    • @EssentialRC
      @EssentialRC  6 ปีที่แล้ว +20

      I think they tend to use the most efficient prop for the engine Gerilynn. If they could use a scale prop they would. Cheers Dom (Essential RC)

    • @f_nc
      @f_nc 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Gerilynn, you are totally right. and additionally landing gears are to fast to deploy and for retraction :)

    • @ChrizRockster
      @ChrizRockster 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If the gear is pneumatic then its just a case of fitting timer valves each side of the solenoid. Then you can adjust the rate at which they raise and lower independently.

    I've read a lot of the "why a 2-bladed prop?" comments and it's really got me curious as to why a 2-blade is more efficient. On full size aircraft, the number of prop blades increased as the technology advanced, so there's got to be a good reason for more blades on the big planes that doesn't translate to scale model aircraft... I've got some reading to do!
    A four-stroke inline 3 or 4 cylinder would be an awesome upgrade and would naturally sound beautiful, but many people don't realise how bloody expensive they are! If you want you go out and fly your plane and be able to relax and enjoy yourself, an affordable, reliable, less exotic engine makes a great deal of sense.
    It's a beautiful model, really huge, and looks great in flight. I think the choice of the 2-seater is actually really cool.
    Happy and safe flying, everyone!

    Hi all I keep getting asked about the propeller. you have to find a prop that will give you the best performance. 2 blade is better than 4. you could put a gearbox on the engine to sing a scale prop but you run in to other problems one is to get it to fit in the cowl and the other you really need to make it variable pitch to keep the performance though out the flight envelope as well as making it reliable. its best to keep it simple which is what it is and very reliable. 10 + years old and still going well. landing is a little hot to try to keep some air flow over the aileron to cope with the cross wind. Thanks Richard

      Appreciate the explanation and information Richard. Cheers Dom (Essential RC)

    • @G58
      @G58 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Couldn’t it afford to be slightly less efficient? Am I right in noting that the diameter is less too?
      I can understand your reasons for a twin bladed prop. But from an aesthetic point of view, it really needs four blades and the correct diameter.
      Gorgeous aircraft. Thank you for sharing

    • @alanfruner6325
      @alanfruner6325 ปีที่แล้ว

      The landing was excellent, the bouncing looked like the real thing. Im not kidding. The landing was the best part for me. Just watched a vid of a sea fury w 5 bladed SCALE SIZE prop and gearbox and it was worth whatever effort was put in. I personally wouldn’t go to all the trouble and expense unless the prop was scale. I know it’s hard bc I’ve only seen two in my life, but I think worth the effort.

    So many people criticise the choice of propeller, if you new anything about modelling you would know a two blade is much more efficient than a three or four blade! I don't think some people realise the cost involved in building something like this. You could buy a small family car for what this cost to build!

    • @EssentialRC
      @EssentialRC  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I think the majority don't understand that and would prefer the look of a 4 blade prop on the ground over the way it flies. This is an amazing model. Only wish I could catch it flying on a decent sunny day ! Cheers Dom (Essential RC)

    This is an exceptional aircraft, sadly let down by the engine choice - it should have a Kolm inline 3 -or 4 - cylinder. Being a 4-stroke it would sound miles better, and it would allow an even more scale prop. Other than that, beautifully flown, a stunning sight, congrats.

    • @EssentialRC
      @EssentialRC  7 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Show and Event organisers NEVER hire videographers in my experience. They just rely on enthusiastic amateurs like me to do it for them...for free incidentally. My new cam does HD at 120 FPS so I will do some specific video using that feature when I think it's worth it. Generally with RC planes I think it's only worthwhile when you've got smoke pouring out of an exhaust or 2 planes in close formation. Cheers Dom (Essential RC)

    • @TheKimmer1969
      @TheKimmer1969 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Dom. You´re right, it can be expensive to hire. But not always, sometimes television stations want to train their students. An event like that could be a good way to gain some experience for someone(I did it....for free i might ad several times) Nevertheless, It´s amazing to watch these vids, thank you!!

  • @tweed252
    @tweed252 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    A 2 bladed prop is allways more efficient than a 3 blade. Which makes the plane perform much better in the air, Which produces more fun and gratification for the pilot flying the bird. And when you have a high dollar airplane invesment its a piece of mind to have the throttle pulling response when you need it. And you can not see the a 3 bladed prop when you taxi out or when the plane is air ? So why don't people get this. So when I taxi back my giant bird back to the pits I take my 2 bladed prop off and put on my 3 blade for a scale look. And yes now you can see the 3 blades it's not spinning !

    good morning, i am lookng for a RC sptfire to do a promotional afternoon at Castle Bromwich Bham UK in October of this year. The Spitfire was built on site here at CB back in the 40`s and since the end of the war Jaguar LandRover have built their models on the same site. would you know of anyone who would be able to help or put me in touch with someone?

    I see this so many times, especially with Spits. A beautiful model ruined by a stupid two blade prop and a pip squeak engine. I know about efficiency and drag, etc but how much better to have the right prop and, say, a Klom engine.

    • @EssentialRC
      @EssentialRC  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Think this has a DA150 or similar in it Adrian. Hear what you are saying. I think a Kolm is outside the budget of most RC modellers even when they put this model together. Would be a perfect motor for it though. Cheers Dom (Essential RC)

      Apparently wouldn't get the same performance from the engine. Doesn't really matter when it's flying. You wouldn't be able to tell the difference. Cheers Dom (Essential RC)

    • @balsumfractus
      @balsumfractus 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      3 blades are not scale on a Mk9.....the real one had a 4 blade prop. The “small” engines used for modelling turn almost 3 times the RPM of a merlin. They are direct drive and produce power at very high rpm....hence the small prop. The 27 litre merlin had more power, but at a much, much lower rpm. Even it had to have a reduction gear box to swing that 10’ 4 blade prop. The size, weight and complexity of a reduction gearbox is not really practical on models. There are some, but very rare.

      ALXROGUE RAF training aircraft, tricky bastard to get the hang of, at the time the 'predictable stall' wing design was unheard of and would have taken hurricane pilots by surprise. A lot of spits got pranged by first time pilots slamming opening their throttles late in panic as the end of the field approached as they were still on the ground. Landing and takeoff are very different to spits, hurris take off by themselves in comparrisson, neutral stick 78mph and next thing you know the rumbling's gone, damn sight easier to land too, hurris glide beautifully line up, at 65-70 cutting the throttle, and you're on the ground.

    Ahhhh no. Why did you make it one of those horrible twin seat mutant spitfires? It spoils the aesthetic of the whole plane. In real life and RC.
