I have the original 630 and feel that these early EOS cameras are picassos of industrial design. Neat and elegant. Plastic may be the drawback, however this material is integral part of the design.
What is the red L on the control dial? is it to turn the camera on and off? how can I turn the camera off when I don't use it? this will be my first time using this camera I've found it on my grandparents house
The red L is for lock. It won't completely turn off the camera, which will always dragon the batteries a bit even when locked, but L will prevent you from taking photos. Video 2 in this series goes over how to use the camera and may also be helpful to you.

Mine is not taking photos :( I just how new batteries and it appears baterry full icon in the display. But when I press the shutter bottom to take a photo, it chages to low baterry icon (half charge icon) and the mirror and shutter don't move. Do you have any ideia what is the problem? (I don't put a film in it yet)
I have run into that problem before and I may have bad news for you. Firstly, try another set of batteries fresh from the store, and make sure that they're still within their expiration date. If they do the same thing then the problem is a faulty circuit board. That's been happening more with these older EOS bodies. The entry-level units, especially, have been exhibiting an uptick in this issue in the last year. I've gone from getting one or two Rebel G (as an example) bodies per year with this issue to around six or eight. So that's an uptick in that specific problem that I don't think is a statistical anomaly. I think the parts are starting to fail on these.
@@DavidHancock i bought a 500N which has that exact issue. it's a bummer because it was part of a bundle with an eos 650 and a 100, which are fully functionnal, but the 500 came with it's original box, and original warranty from it was first bought in 1997 i think. it's been month since i've been trying to figure out what's wrong .... and yes thanks for the answer and very nice videos

Yes, but not the other way around. Those cameras will take EF: this will not take EF-S.

These cameras don't record the shutter count.
