    Thank you for this so much! Cause i bought this camera of a thrift for 600 pesos (which is like 10$) untested so i was just really happy when i put it new batteries and it worked!, i cant really find any other videoss showing how this camera works so i really appreciate this!. And one last is my timer actually works fine without holding the shutter down so it could just be a problem, but again thanks for this video!

    This video was really helpful, because I haven't used a film camera since I was a child. I had no idea how to properly put in the film, so I messed up two rolls, but I hope i can handle it now. Just gotta buy some film.

    Its very helpful! Just get mine 1 fixed today and I wondering what if i use third party lens like Sigma 35mm 1.4(EF mount) on this canera? Does it automatically adjust the aperture too depending on my shutter speed?

      @@titustjt1612 thank you and maybe it will work. Some third-party lenses do and others don't and I don't know why that is.

    And also im a beginner and ive only used point and shoots so im neww to this and i wanna ask, does the camera only advance when the film has a dx code? Cause i just put in a waste film without a dx and it pre loads it but it doesn't advance when i shutter

      Check that it's loaded correctly. I think this will uses non-DX film and assume it's 100 ISO, but it's been a long time since I made this video.

    Thanks so much for the great video. I loaded in a roll today that I did not realize had no DX code. I’m curious - do you have any idea what it might default the ISO to? Do you think it’s salvageable?

    Is it okay to take out the batteries to preserve it even though I have some shots left on the roll? Or will that mess up the un-developed roll?

    Just found my dads old EOS 5000 and seems in good condition but I just can’t get the little circle on the lens to focus any advice?

    • @DavidHancock
      @DavidHancock  ปีที่แล้ว

      A few ideas. We'll start simple and obvious:
      1- Make sure you have batteries. The camera won't operate without them.
      2- Make sure that the lens is in AF mode (switch is on the lens) and that it's fully mounted onto the camera. That will allow the batteries in the camera to power the lens' autofocus motor.
      3- If the answer to both of those is yes, does the camera work properly otherwise and can you focus the lens in MF (manual focus) mode by adjusting the lens' focus ring?

    So, I just picked up a N75 with a 28-80mm F 1:3.3 nikkor lens for $50. My first AF lens. Is the N75 about equal to the Canon EOS 5000?

    • @DavidHancock
      @DavidHancock  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Probably a step up in terms of features, but generally the same class yes. The N75 is an A-okay camera.

  • @AlexanderHellyar
    @AlexanderHellyar ปีที่แล้ว

    if i put a new film in and the camera is not on 'L' for load (i.e. on 500) can that cause the film to be blank? or is it damaging the camera?

    • @AlexanderHellyar
      @AlexanderHellyar ปีที่แล้ว

      since posting this i now am unsure that the L on the options actually means 'load' other sources suggest it means low battery usage mode.

    • @DavidHancock
      @DavidHancock  ปีที่แล้ว

      "L" means lock, and is basically the same as "off". You can load the film in any mode, but loading it in your selected shooting mode will give you the ability to start shooting more quickly.

    Hi, my camera doesn't roll the film into the camera at the beginning..does it have to have a particular setting? Thanks

    • @DavidHancock
      @DavidHancock  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It shouldn't have any special setting. It could either be that the film isn't resting properly in the camera or it could be a failed motor.

    What if have 28mm lens? What shutter speed should be used?

    • @DavidHancock
      @DavidHancock  ปีที่แล้ว

      Lens focal length has no effect on the shutter speed selection. Film type, available light, and what you want your image to look like will affect that.

    Pleasssseeeee someone help me: I found my dads Canon EOS 5000 and there is literally nothing to put batteries in. My dad threw out the manual and the online one says there should be a latch but there is literally nothing

    • @DavidHancock
      @DavidHancock  ปีที่แล้ว

      If there's just a hole where there should be a battery cover, then the cover probably broke off. Without it, the camera won't be able to get power from the batteries.
      Well, asterisk, without the door you could put a strip of tin foil over the batteries and then tape them into the camera and that might work. The battery terminals are inside the camera and the metal piece on the underside of the battery cover only serves to make a connection between the two batteries.

    • @sofievanderijdt6671
      @sofievanderijdt6671 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@DavidHancock nonono there is no hole, there is literally nothing. On the camera it says EOS5000 but the bottom of the device looks nothing like the picture. There are no latches and in the middle instead of the attachment for the tripod there is some kind of screw top and next to that is the hole for the tripod.

    • @DavidHancock
      @DavidHancock  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@sofievanderijdt6671 it's probably got a battery grip on it. I haven't ever seen one in person, so I don't know lots about them, but they have the battery removal thing on one of the sides. Usually you'll just have to undo a clip, slide out the battery caddy, and then replace the batteries that way.

    • @DavidHancock
      @DavidHancock  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sounds like the camera is broken. There may be a problem with the motor or with the automatic frame counter system, and I don't know which. Odds are the repair is more expensive than a new one.

    IF I use a manual lens how I get the right exposure

    • @DavidHancock
      @DavidHancock  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you're asking about a lens with a native Canon EF mount, then it's all controlled on the the camera. If you're asking about an adapted lens that does not have electronic controls, set the camera to "A" and then control exposure with the aperture ring on the lens.

      Teşekkür ederim ve size bazı fikirler verebilirim. Listelediğiniz dört kameranın hepsi birbirinden çok farklı. Amacınız kullanımı kolay bir kameraya sahip olmak ve nasıl kullanılacağını düşünmemekse, 5000 mükemmel. Hata yapmanıza izin verecek ve size daha iyi bir fotoğrafçı olmayı öğretecek bir kameranız olsun istiyorsanız, Canon AT-1'e bakarım. Bu kamera tamamen manuel, kullanımı kolay ve AE-1'den daha az popüler olduğu ve genellikle makul fiyatlı olduğu için.
