Rare media coverage footage of a Virginia execution by electrocution in the 1990's.

  • Virginia has abolished the death penalty but back in the 90's, the state was the most efficient in the nation at carrying out executions. This clip features the Roanoke Fox affiliate's live 10pm coverage from Jarratt, VA followed by rare raw video footage of media staging outside of what was known as the "Death Chamber" in the same complex as Death Row. News crews from all over the state waited while the execution by electric chair took place inside. The b-roll footage includes a morbid news conference from the prison spokesman. This execution was a 9/23/98 electrocution of a Bedford County man who killed his wife and infant son on Mother’s Day 1991.

    Kenneth M. Stewart Jr. This just in: Although this execution took place in1998, an unnamed official in Virginia stated that he was pronounced dead on the day of execution and remains dead as of this post. Experts say they expect him to remain in that state for an extended period time. We will keep you updated if there is any change in Mr. Stewart's condition.

      The rule in the UK was that you had 3 Sundays between sentencing and execution. If an appeal was lodged (no automatic appeal, there had to be a legal justification for appealing the sentence) that appeal had to be heard by the court within those 3 weeks. The appeal was heard by the highest court so if it was rejected there was no further recourse for further appeal.

      Explain why you care about an execution of a man who took someone's life away. Why do you care about the pain it brings the perpetrator. The man was a killer. The person he killed I had no choice but to suffer without someone like You protecting his killer. You're outrage shows what's wrong with this country. A killer should be put to death the same way he killed his victim. Your statement that the killer suffered as he was put to death shows that you have no respect for life, because the life that counted was the life that was taken away by the killer.. the killers in this country live too long after they've tortured people. They need to be taken out of society because society is not about killing other people. The ten commandments says thou shalt not kill. There should be no horror if the killer suffers during his death. The horror should be for the victim. The more people like you care about the killer, in any manner, need to think about how little you care about human beings. The killer has lost his right to be a human being. You should be ashamed of yourself for having no respect for life. Killing the killer of another human is like executing a bug. The killer is no better than a bug you step on. You're an offensive person. I am embarrassed for you

      If an inmate being electrocuted in whichever state whether it's Tennessee, Florida, or the others like Georgia, or Nebraska in the past; if an inmate doesn't go unconscious instantly it would be Unbelievable torture. I can't imagine such a torture of 2000 volts with 8 amperes (current). The current or the force is what kills the inmate I think they do like 2000 volts for 10 seconds as not to cook the inmate, followed by 600 volts or so for a minute, and 2000 volts for 10 seconds again. This way it disrupts the heart rhythm. Some states may do it more or less as far as the voltage but pretty similar in general. A heavier inmate requires more juice. I wonder what would happen if ONLY the head electrode were attached, and not the leg. I think the inmate could still die, but it would take longer, and it would be messier if he isn't grounded. The inmate would certainly be unconscious I would think. I guess the leg is necessary to complete a circuit. It's still possible for the inmate to die i would think if 2000 volts is coming through the head electrode. I wouldn't want to be part of the staff to remove the inmate. It's probably guys from a funeral parlor who wear gloves and a white gown to protect themselves who removes the inmate from the chair.

    • @RR98guy
      @RR98guy 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@msw600 Its not the voltage that kills its the amps. It doesn't take even an amp to kill if you are grounded. It seems like I read somewhere it only take maybe 20 mili-amps to kill if their is a good connection to ground. Correct me if I am wrong.

      @@allisonjohnson6399I don't know about the infinite void, but there is little to no evidence of the existence of a higher power of any kind.

    "performed without incident" well apart from someone being killed. Remarkable how people think they can play god and speak on God's behalf. Hearing voices is generally a sign of mental ill health yet people say God spoke to them and no-one questions their sanity. And how often do those same people who believe in execution say that an abortion is murder because they believe in the sanctity of life.

      @@tonybeck8624 You do realise that the church does not generally preach from the old testament apart from a few who use religion as a tool to oppress their congregation. Forgiveness is their mantra these days. That doesn't exclude punishment or forgetting what the person did, it just means that they do not speak for god and cannot pass a sentence of death cause that as I already said is playing god.

      I mean. Who else is gonna speak on behalf of God? That motherfunker never lifts a finger.
