Here's my final verdict on the Fritz Zyme 7 instant aquarium cycling product. Fritz claims that after properly using this product one can add fish instantly to a new tank. Is this true? Did Fritz come through? Did the product deliver what was promised? Did it work or not work? Let's talk about it in this video.

Can fritzyme 7 be added while a tank is cycling?
Can I add fritz to the tank if I already have put fish in? Not that I need to, just curious

I'm starting a 30 gallon tank, I'm using seachem prime to condition the water before I add the fritz 7 will that work??? What is seachem arm guard for??
The fritz directions say you can add fish once after to add the fritz 7 ,how many days do you treat the water b4 you add the fritz 7,then how many days after you add the fritz 7 to the water do you add the fish??
Hi Ben, that Fritz product is the real deal. The only difference I did was I added the fish to a new tank at the same time. The tank cycled very quick with a very small Nitrite spike on day 2. By day 4 I had 0 ammonia, 0. Nitrite, and just under 20ppm Nitrates on day 4. I will see you Saturday on the live-stream

This is an extremely helpful video. I'm semi new to the hobby & was gifted a 65-gallon tank. It had established cartridge filters, but I was instructed to let it run for two weeks before adding fish. Now I understand that any bacteria that were present have probably starved as there is no ammonia source. So I will proceed with your advice. I purchased a master test kit and was clued into my dilemma when every test came up zero. Thank you!

I used Fritz 9 on my saltwater tank when I first started it. I did a fishless cycle and it took about a month. I would still probably do my usual slow method on saltwater just because ammonia toxicity is higher at high pHs. Most saltwater tanks sit around 8-8.2. Personally for saltwater, I prefer microbacter 7 as I have successfully used that product to get rid of dinoflagellates so it has a multipurpose application.

Interesting option if one does not have any active tanks running when they add a new tank. Otherwise moving HOB's, substrate or a sponge filter, or sump media to the new aquarium provides an almost instantaneous cycled environment into which new fish can be added.
I’d feel much more secure with some media from an established tank. That being said, this product delivered.

Seachem Prime for dechlorinator and Fritz turbo start on the bacteria. Worked perfectly for me.
Fritz Turbo Start is the Best to start a brand new system IMO. It just needs to be refrigerated and used before the ex date. I use Stability on a regular basis, but to start a tank from jump street Turbo has never failed me.
As per Fritz. Zyme 7 and Turbo are the same thing except that turbo is much more concentrated.

Hey Ben have a question for you.
Have a 60gallon with a hang on back and a sponge filter . Tank is 2weeks old. Put fish in on day 4. Have. Been using prime and stability. And my ammonia was still high eveyghing is was zero. Went and got fritz and on ray 2 of dozing the tank.
My question is how long should I be using fritz until I see the ammonia go the other way. Btw I have stoped feeding until ammonia goes down

I used this when my tank went through a mini-cycle after I had to replace a broken filter. It worked great and gave me the peace of mind that my fish wouldn’t be living through high ammonia spikes for long as the tank cycled again!

@@samisweirdlol yes I added it right into the tank with the fish. The fish were fine and didn’t seem to notice it. The tank was back to being fully cycled in a couple days and I didn’t lose any fish! ❤️

So I've had an aquarium set up for a couple of months now. I did have pneumonia, and nitrites and then nitrates. But, now I just have high nitrites that I can't seem to get rid of. I tried water changes, adding stability and prime for 8 days per bottle instructions and it is still high. I do have fish in the aquarium and I added live plants. Will the Fritz 7 detoxify the nitrites to keep the fish safe like stability will? The bottle says to add 2 oz per 10 gallons to an existing tank but you said you did it for 4 days? Should I be adding 4 oz into a 20 gallon tank for 4 days? I will be checking the water parameters daily.
👋🤔 Hello , Im starting a brand new 10 gallon . Is it ok to use the FRITZ Fishless Fuel after adding water conditioner then add in the Fritz 7 Zyme . I heard this makes it a instant cycle? If so do you let it run a few days and then Test the water for Nitrates , ammonia and Nitrites ? Won't alot of chemicals hurt the fish and if I use these products how long should I wait to add new fish in and should I do a little water change before doing so ? Awesome, thanks, do you add more Fritz zyme after a water change?, Yes you should if not., I add stress zyme plus, every water change, and stability., .. I have over 50 peacock in my 75, never had a problem., If you take out just add back I say., You should add another kind of bacteria too, due to there are ones in different places of tank, substrate ect., Mix and match, add different one every other or both at same time like I do.
Can I use seachem prime with the Fritz 7? How many times do i dose the Fritz?
I started my fish less cycle 2 weeks ago using fish food and Seacheme Prime and Stability. I was not getting any Ammonia readings. I then added Dr Timms ammonia to establish a 2.00ppm. I have had this reading now for 2 days. I needed to buy a new bottle of bacteria so I purchased Fritz Zyme 7. Can I add this now and should I keep adding Ammonia. From Scotland🏴
I just clean out a couple of running filters into a new tank, let it come to temp and add fish, I've used several different starter bacteria bottles and not seen any difference.
Bacteria from an established tank is the best way to go.
When you’re starting from scratch I’d say it’s worth it, especially if you’re testing and seeing results.

I have a 40 breeder tank. I got it for fish that I had ordered. So, I wanted it cycled before the fish showed up. Here's what I did. I set it up. Used Seachem Prime. Let it sit 2 days. Then I bought 6 Danios as they are hardy fish. Bought a 16 Oz bottle if FritzZyme 7. Per directions, put the entire bottle in the tank. Test every day with API Master kit. High level of ammonia. No nitrites. No nitrates. So, I keep using Seachem Prime to detoxify so the fish don't die. PH took a dump, so I adjusted that. Bought another 32 Oz bottle of FritzZyme 7 a week later. This time, I took a sponge filter & sucked all the FritzZyme into it. And then put the sponge filter back together and back into the tank. Another week goes by. High levels of ammonia. No nitrites, no nitrates. Using Seachem prime & Stability every day. Tank is slightly cloudy. But, my fish came in. So, now I have a baby African Knife, a 5 inch Colombian shark & a small Bala shark. As well as a 3 inch pleco. So, now I have all the fish I was planning on for the tank. And it's not cycling. I have another 16 Oz bottle of FritzZyme 7 coming today. And a 33 Oz bottle coming tomorrow. Because, I actually also have a 29 gallon with similar problems. And a 10 gallon I've had for like 4 months now that's still not cyled. I really don't want these fish to die. And the worst part, is this 40 breeder isn't even the final tank for these guys. I have a 75 that I will eventually move them to. If I can ever get these current tanks to cycle. Am I using this stuff wrong? Because everyone says it works miracles. But I don't see it doing anything. Is it bad to detoxify daily with prime? Or use stability & prime with FritzZyme 7?
If the fish are not showing signs of stress, keep doing what you’re doing. It will eventually settle down. Be sure the Fritz Zyme bottles are not past expiration.
Ideally, see if someone has some filter media from a well established tank that they are willing to give. That’s the best way to get it going.

My question is about the fritzzyme 7 if I use media from my other tanks, condition the water, and use this product....will it be safe to add fish immediately?? I must move some of my cichlids around, some of my tanks are getting pretty crowded.
Thank you 🤣 Be sure to add it to water that has been conditioned. Start adding a few fish right away. Their waste will feed the bacteria from the bottle. Read and follow the bottle directions to the letter, and you’ll be fine.
I use RO water to my 10 gallon nano. I still use fritz complete just in case then i use fritz 7. I’m using fluval statrum I’ve heard that it can make ammonia spike. Should I worry about adding fish or should I hold off. I need to check my level just haven’t a chance. And I have plants in the tank too.
Certainly do a test. Smaller set up can be more deadly since there isn't a lot of water there to dilute things like ammonia and nitrites.
Question for all you seasoned keepers will fritz help me out i seen to process ammonia but nitrites are high and wont go down fishless cycle ?

If ammonia and nitrite are zero you’re ready for fish. Test your tap. If there’s nitrate in your tap water, do some 60-70% water changes. But, IMO, nitrates are not really an issue until you get up into high levels, like 80ppm+

I have a 55gal and 40gal tall
Been treating with prime and stability for over 3 weeks.
I have 12 small fancy tetras in the 40gal
15 fish in the 55gal which are 9 skirted tetras, 3 Cory catfish,3 zebra danios 1 pleco
Iv noticed my
ammonia is 1.0 ppm
0 nitrites
Nitrates 20ppm
My tap water has 10ppm nitrates
Will this stuff work better then stability?
After I does the tank when should I test results?
Sounds like you’re real close to being fully cycled. Just add fish gradually and keep testing. I prefer FritzZyme 7
Ben - I used This product on my new 16 gallon tank on Monday. Wanted to confirm I just keep testing water and topping off tank with water treated with Prime (which is what I have). And no need to do water changes. Do I need to also add safe or another product ( not sure what it’s used for) that you mentioned? I know with stability you use it with every water change and follow the dosing schedule during cycling. Reading the directions for Fritz Zyme it seems it’s just a one dose. At what point am I safe to add fish? Sorry if this is a stupid question but I’m new at this... Thanks!
I have same question. The bottle doesn't mention more than one dose.
@@katemaier7047 yes it does, it says a dose up to 10X is safe in a large load tank. So it’s safe to 2X dose or 3X dose in a new setup

Did you perform water changes daily so the ammonia wouldn’t spike. I just used it once before I did a water change. If you water change 20% abs do not disturb the substrate will that work and at the same time not harm the fish? Thanks Ben
Hi Bonnie, No. A small WC was done just before adding and a few days after adding fish. You want that ammonia and nitrite in the tank to feed the beneficial bacteria. When I added fish I essentially started using them as a source of ammonia, but until that point it's best to leave things alone.

How often do you put this into a new tank? Do you do it daily, do you do it weekly, before or after any water changes? I'm just starting to learn and got my first tank and try not to make any mistakes.
It’s all gone over on the bottle. I dosed for a week. Added fish on the second day. The bacteria needs the waste that the fish produce to stay alive. Just be sure the water is conditioned with something like Seachem Prime or Fritz Complete before adding the bacteria.

First you always have to treat your water, with Prime(Seachem) this will take care of chlorine and chloramine in water. If it’s a new tank, not cycled you treat for your whole tank gallons. This will lock these bad guys from harming your fish for 36-48 hours.🐠. For not cycled tank use Prime every day. Now for your Fritz Zyme 7, use it after a water change or every day, if tank is not cycled. Read bottle instructions.Most important is to check your water, use API test kit ( liquid) not strips. so i’m confused so can i add these chemicals and then put an ammonia source like fish food which will rot and just keep adding fish food and keep adding these chemicals?
Just add some fish after using the Fritz products. Feeding them will provide the ammonia needed to keep the beneficial bacteria alive and growing.

You can add straight ammonia instead of adding fish. You just have to make sure there are no additives in the ammonia. Look in ingredients and even if it doesn’t say there are any shake the bottle and if there is suds that form it’s no good. I have always cycled tanks this way.
Fritz has a turbo start which is essentially fish-safe ammonia.
How long does it take to cycle with Fritz?
Should the Wave Maker be at the top on the same side as the filter intake or should it be on the opposite side at the top
I have one at the top of the tank agitating the surface. It is on the same side as the intake. I have another one much lower on the opposite side to help push the detritus toward the intake on the other side. Works great!
Depends on the purpose for using a wave maker or powerhead. I like them for surface agitation (oxygen/gas exchange) and I use them to push waste toward the filter input.

Okay I have a 60 gallon tank I have one at the top next to my filter intake I only have one cuz my tank is only 60 gal I don't think I don't think I need 2 but I am thinking about getting a little bit more powerful but not too much for a 60gal is that go with little stronger which would you suggest that I should go with I'm still new with in hobby
Okay so I wanted to ask if you can get water tests at a local pet store or are they found on Amazon. Also I’m new to this so any advice helps!
Most of the chain fish stores like Petco or Petsmart will test your water for free if you bring a bag in. But the test kits online aren't too expensive. You'll probably want an ammonia test kit and then a multi test kit that has hardness, pH, nitrite, nitrate on it. API is popular brand for those.
i list some at my amazon store (amazon.com/shop/benochart) and I like the Aquarium Co-op test strips for a fast look at what's going on.

My question is I want to get involved with shrimp but they require a softer water, what is the best way to make water soft? The water here is hard naturally.
Consider adding a softener system to your house. Otherwise you'll have to get into dosing to soften with available products or diluting with distilled water and that gets tedious and inaccurate.

I do need to buy some things but was thinking this comuld be a alternative. I have a 20 gallon long and I bought some of this. I added 1/4 cup yesterday. Am I supposed to use it more than once without doing a water change? The directions don't specify this. How long do I wait after I use this to do my weekly partial water changes again?
Do water tests and when nitrates start going up, do a water change. Add a few fish right away to feed the bacteria. Be sure you added it to treated water or the chlorine will kill off the BB, making the Fritz useless.
@@BenOchart It is an "established" tank, although I have had some recent issues lately due to trying to increase the low PH and also using algaecide...I've been doing several frequent water changes recently. The water quality out of the tap here is nothing to write home about. I use API tap water conditioner and stress coat together. Currently, my tank PH is high 7 to medium 8. I have 2 Leopard Angeles that just laid eggs and 1 tiger barb. I've lost everybody
else :(
I’ve had great success with the fritz zyme 7 but have noticed 2 things vs not using it. Brown diatoms and detritus worms on/in new tanks
Those might not be related to the Fritz product but instead brought about from other causes like phosphates in substrate/decor and contamination added with the introduction of new fish/plants
@@BenOchart I thought that at first but this was in brand new substrate that I cleaned, brand new tank, no decorations, no plants, just a bare tank. All I did was add fry from my breeders, basically set up new grow out tanks
Are these worms bad? I just started using fritzzyme 7 this morning and I’m noticing small tiny worms or something crawling on my betta’s blue betta tunnel and on the side glass walls of my aquarium?
I just bought this for my first tank. I used the fishless fuel Ammonia by fritz first. When is a good time to add this, should I wait a few days or do it the same day?
I haven’t used the fuel. The best advice I can give you is to follow the directions exactly as stated.

i just ordered thisI have four tanks two with active substrate and two without all are doing great- cycled beautifully - now I have a tank - my personal nightmare .. this tank has a chiller and no substrate - its for my axolotl ( who presently has been living in a ten gallon that was supposed to be temporary - this means daily water changes no exceptions - its exhausting and he needs to transition to his permanent home - that was six months ago- ) ammonia developed from ghost feeding the 29 gallon I am trying to cycle for him - however for months no nitrite - no nitrate - the ammonia was about .5ppm - I read too much ammonia can cause the cycle to stall and was told that being I added an API product some time ago - quick start(?)and
that could mess with test readings so being no one lives in the tank I just did a 90% maybe a little more water change and I am starting over with Prime ( was using this all along to dechlorinate ) and Fritz - I have some driftwood from an established tank and fake plants - bought for this tank - did not rimse then off when I did fhe water change - would prefer real like my other tanks but I can't put soil with the axie and the floating plants I had did not take well to the cold water and tbh I just want this tank running already ... I also have a hide and a sponge filter running and a HIB running since I staryed this oddessey which I did not clean - I plan to use the fritz - and a sponge from one of my established tanks and adding sand for added surface area and then testing and testing - I hope this works because warm weather is coming and he needs to be rehoused to this larger tank with a chiller- its very upsetting - akso great post !

I use a variety of foods including Sera, Xtreme, Piscene Energetics and frozen foods.
For the last year I’ve use Aquarium Co-op test strips.

I'm glad everything worked out for you Ben good luck with your new tanks , myself personally I would never endorse or choose to rush the nitrogen cycle I prefer the old-fashioned four to six weeks method, to me that's part of the hobby I enjoy watching that tank for that month and tending to it and keeping an eye on it and testing it , especially if I'm trying to educate a new person to the Hobby or one day my daughters you understand things better rather than teaching someone to rely on a product that you just dumped in there and hope everything comes out, I'm not trying to sound condescending at all so please don't take it that way I'm just saying four to six weeks method is more fun and educational to me, tank on brother
As long as you use Safe/Prime, adding fish from day 1 shouldn't be an issue.

@@wnemethvargo284 benefitial bacteria needs to grow go convert ammonia to nitrate as it is produced. Aka cycle the tank. Adding prime will make it ok until the fish produce waste. Without a cycled tank the fish will die in days when ammonia builds.

I've had success with it after a deep clean in a tank not heavily stocked but never tried it on a completely new setup. Not because I don't trust it, just haven't started 100% new.
I’ve never used that product
First I add Hikari ultimate water conditioner, then Startsmart complete. These products were shown to me by an LFS owner in Sarasota FL with over 40 years of experience. Since I’ve been using this combination my fish seem less stressed during water changes. I swear by these two products. Cycling a new aquarium is some tough stuff. I saw a video where a guy added bacteria then squeezed out a dirty sponge filter into the aquarium. I will definitely try this method in the future should I decide to start a tank from scratch again.
Hello Ben. I have a question. I am fishless cycling a 36 gallon tank. I used the Fishless Fuel ammonia and the Fritz zyme bacteria. It has been cycling for about 4 weeks already. The ammonia is gone. It now has nitrites and nitrates. There have been nitrites for a couple of weeks now but it will NOT go down. Is there something I should do? I thought maybe the test wasnt right ( I use the API master test kit) I tested my other fishtank that is already cycled and it showed 0 nitrites. The nitrites seem to be stuck around .25 -.50 ppm. Yesterday I bought a heater and heated it up to 84 degrees. I heard this helps the bacteria grow.
That’s not truly a very dangerous level of nitrates. The key is 0 ammonia and 0 nitrites. You’re there. Now I suggest that you start adding a few fish and doing water changes. Be sure there’s a lot of oxygen since that also promotes beneficial bacteria.
@@BenOchart Thanks for responding. It's the nitrites I can't get down to 0. It's been staying dark purple for a few weeks now. There's quite a bit of water circulation.
@@tkay711 got it. Odd that nitrites are not zero since it’s ammonia that is converted to nitrites 🤷🏼♂️. You have plenty ammonia converting bacteria but not enough nitrite converting bacteria. Interesting dilemma. I would add a bit more Fritz Zyme, some dirty filter media from one of your established tanks and a few very hardy fish like black skirt tetras. Be sure to condition the water before adding more FritzZyme and again before adding 3 or 4 fish.

Hello so I have a 20 gallon long. I have 5-10 shrimp, 3 dwarf craw fish, a bunch of live plants, 2 young black molles under 2 inches, 4 neon tetras, 4 ember tetras, and 5 zebra danios. I didnt know all this about cycling a tank. I've had this tank for 3 weeks. I get ammonia a high of 4ppm but it is normally under 2 ppm I do get nitrite, about 4 days ago it was at .5ppm and nitrates are always under 1ppm. My plants are growing like crazy. I have to trim my red and green cabomba about every week and a half. I havnt lost any fish. But idk why I'm still getting high ammonia. My water does have ammonia in it about .25ppm I think my tank isnt cycled because that should go away fairly quickly but instead it goes up about .25ppm every day some times 1ppm per day. I've been changing water every couple of days it could in part be the aqua soil I have. I'm using amazonia v2 capped with gravel. I know I'm under the max amount of fish for the 20 gallon.
I also have a 10 gallon with a betta in it, but I still get high ammonia levels in it as well.

@@yarianbalaguer8288 I actually have tested it. I test it often. And I never get any bad readings. Now my bettas 10g is cycled. My 20g is so close now. It's under. 25ppm I may need to get an extra canister for my canister Filter and pack it full of nothing but bio media. I think I should do that. There's no way it wont cycle better.
Bacteria in a bottle products often get a bad rap on discussion forums. I think the caveat is that often these products aren't shipped or stored properly and extremes in temperature (heat) causes the bacteria to perish. Bacteria are very resilient, but not invincible.

I have the Fritz 7, exactly what Mr.Ochart showed in this video. The bottle says that it should have an earthy smell to it but mine smelled like fart. I bought a bottle before and the other one didn't have an odor... do you think that I possibly have a bottle with dead bacteria??

I added some to my aquarium after a 50% PWC yesterday because my nitrite was elevated (approx 0.50ppm). My ammonia read 0ppm but if I retest my water today, would you think that if my ammonia and nitrite are elevated that would be a good indicator that I put a bunch of dead bacteria inside the tank?
( I also contacted my local pet store [where I purchased the product] and told them the situation, he said that it should be okay but I’m not too sure if I should 100% trust his answer)

I trust Fritz products. I just soaked a swollen fish (big belly, eyes popping out, etc) in Fritz salt and he was fully recovered in a week!
I used Dr. Tim’s one and only every time I added fish in my heavy planted tanks. But a always added almost 50% of the fish at once and never had problems. There is no way I would switch that and try something else, even if it is that good, which I am sure it may be…..
I've heard great things about Dr. Tim's but have never tried it. Stick with what works is a great policy.

Unfortunately most cities are using chloramines and I believe that they don't gas off the way chlorine does.

Long story short, my 125 gallon peacock and hap tank aquarium heater malfunctioned and cooked my fish 2 nights ago and crashed my cycle causing 19 of the 24 fish to die. So i quarantined the survivors in a 20 gallon long. Only problem my guys are 4.5-6 inches and were cramped in quarantine. The in the 125 also caused a bacteria bloom which has cleared this morning. So the fish looked extremely stressed. I added seachem prime and stability yesterday to restart tank and i dosed accordingly to tank volume today and had to add my guys to 125 so they wouldn't stress being cramped. I added an established sponge filter because of my cycle crash (no ammonia, no nitrites and no nitrates). My fritz turbo start for freshwater will be here tomorrow. Once i add that, will i be ok as long as i watch parameters?
The sponge filter is all i have thats established from quarantine tank. I have 2 hob filters but they are small for the 20 gallon tank and wont fit or be enough for the 125 gallon.
I'm sorry to hear about that heater malfunction. I've heard that many times over the years and I'm a big advocate of using controllers that shut off power when the target temperature is reached.
Getting to your question. Yes. Be sure that the Fritz products are fresh (not expired) and added to conditioned tank water (not tap water) and you should be good to go especially with having brought over media from an established tank.

Well great… just bought it and dumped it in to my new 75 gallon and didn’t use a fricken de-chlorinator…
Don't buy water dechlorinator, just use sodium thiosulfate mixed 4 ounces of sodium thiosulfate to 1 gallon of distilled water, 3 drops treats 1 gallon of water and is safe when used 100 times the regular dose.
Maybe i’m old-school but i think the best is to add already established media and start to stock right away, or use bacteria from a bottle, ghost feeding, even add amonia and wait at least 3 weeks before adding fish. Either way it,s crucial to realise that benneficial bacteria will build up and die to the amount of polution which is their food so there is no short-cut to a fully stocked tank. Patience is key and people who can’t handle that are in the wrong hobby. My opinion is we should be careful promoting short-cuts.
I would much prefer adding media from an established tank, but when that’s not an option, this worked well IMO 😀👍🏻
This is why you test to see results and adding a rotten shrimp 🍤 might help boost it as well 😝.in my opinion, when beneficial bacteria is established on surfaces that’s when you can get way more comfortable.
I understand what you mean and i agree, but as experienced fishkeepers. You don’t want to give new fishkeepers the idea that you can cycle a tank out of a bottle. When they wake up to a tank full of dead fish they will be out of the hobby just as fast as they got in 😏

@@Remsterdam I found that this product actually delivered on its promise and when used according to directions did allow me to cycle from a bottle. Naturally I will continue to monitor and do WCs with water conditioner which should handle any spikes as things progress.
