This is why players tend to reset their console rather than restarting via the in-game pause menu. It makes each attempt slower but you don’t have the risk of the NPCs gaining sentience. Honestly something he should’ve figured out before doing his run.
But then the console might gain sentience.

Yeah but this specific game bugs out upon console reset. It thinks this is your first time every playing, so you can't skip the dialogue. This hinders time significantly, as it's started when you start a new run.

Yeah but it takes 3 seconds longer to grab the sword rather than just breaking the pot so it's an unviable route

The fact that she remembers every single run must be hell for her.
I mean I bet most runs are relaxing for her seeing people light up with excitement or nostalgia getting the sword, its the challenge runners that would piss her off

Yeah, you're supposed to take out the RAM battery every 3 consecutive attempts. I heard there's a mod kit now that adds a 'reset' like switch to make that part easier. It's part of the Midnight Any% category where you start at midnight and keep the time going between resets.
You'll just wipe their consciousness once you stop feeding the system power so not to worry.
Be careful with games that write data outside of RAM though.
This is why I don't mind when people use the "cage AI" hack, but it is technically banned in this speedrun record, as it slightly speeds up the frame rate when the AI doesn't achieve sentience, so...

Reminds me of Half-life speedrun strats that write comedy by themselves. I mean, beat NPC on the head with bookshelves to make them move faster? That makes sense and makes it hilarious.
If Gordon Freeman came running towards me swinging a bookshelf, you can bet your ass i'd be running
I like it that the player and the character are played by different people.

Multiple world records & didn't even know this cutscene had a skip button.

You can actually use a pot to help get into the void space if you smash one while facing to the right of the first npc. The animation sends your character a step backwards into the wall, you just got to b hop at the same time you do it. I know it's pretty hard to do so most speed runners don't try it but it could save up to 2 seconds in the run.
I just love the idea of game programmers creating AI sentience, just through accidental glitches.
"Boss, the game's ready to ship, but ah, it _turns_ out a few of the NPCs _will_ become self-aware if the player resets too much in a short amount of time."

Read up on "Ghosts in the code". Basically, errors in substantially large enough and complex software can cause strange behaviors outside of the scope of the software.

Love how you nailed what a cutscene would be like, with the repeated dialogue and skip surrounding only an early part of the conversation! Felt very accurate, and that always makes these great!

@@jcdenton2187 That's also the reason why Door Monster skits take so much more time than VLDL's, which are insanely short and are based around a simple running gag and their characters.

Most competitions at a sufficiently high level require a frustrating amount of effort, but the sense of accomplishment of being the best at something can be glorious. Personally, I would not enjoy speedrunning, but I can get the appeal of succeeding at something difficult.

Jokes on her, his tactic was to aggro the NPC all along, which triggers a 0.01% chance of being instantly teleported to the final boss and one shotting it.
This game clearly makes a bad speedrun, at least in the any% glitched category. If the random chance of getting the correct result is too small, the category won't be run, especially if the wrong result even once is a run killer.
Unless it happens to be the absolute fastest way to complete the game, like the bottle adventure in OOT

I'm not fully informed on the intricacies of BA and RBA, but I can't see much randomness in it. Which item corresponds to which bottle contents is kinda arbitrary, but not random in a gameplay/coding sense.
A better example would probably be Minecraft, which is a very random game that people still run. (Although fewer people run random seed on versions with a greater reliance on randomness in the speedrun.)
the fastest way isn't always the most run, like for minecraft both random and set seed are a lot more runned on glitchless, because glitched run is just boring.

Post game. The credit warp just removes the barrier around the castle so you can fight the secret super boss and get the true ending.

While all the joke ideas are there, I find its really missing the trademark "snappy back-and-forth Door Monster rythm" in the last couple of sketches :/

I don't mind, Kyle seems like the type of guy to stretch himself thin on multiple projects
I'd rather have a few weaker sketches than a burned out Kyle. So be it.

I thought there might be a plot twist ending that she was the player trying to get the player to take the sword to trigger a speed run glitch.
I would have loved it if he needed her to hit him to activate a specific glitch for the speedrun.

I'm always annoyed by the "speedrunners skip the game" joke. It's just not true, you have to LOVE a game and know EVERYTHING about it in order to speedrun. You think someone who didn't love playing twilight princess could have figured out that the "new item" animation was missing a frame which causes link to slide backwards ever so slightly and if you position him right when you pick something up and wait a few hours he will clip through walls? You would have to be obessive about a game to even want to do a run that required you to set the controller down for hours, and hit the button at the right second afterwards.

There are different kinds of speedrunners, as I see it.. Sure, a number of them are genuine fans, but there are also a lot of them who are completely indifferent to what game they're speedrunning. People with an interest in bragging rights, a sense of accomplishment, leaderboards, etc.. They'll either explore a game for glitches/bugs/efficiency based on that or look up what fans of the game have figured out.. They just have a different kind of obsession.
