If the riot shield is planted it takes two explosives to destroy it, however if you pick it up after one explosion it 'resets' and the shield can take another two explosions after you've re-planted it.
I hate that bullets can sometimes glitch right through the shield, getting this gold was such a pain with the scorpion sometimes glitching throught the shield :(
Lewis Ross Oh that's nice. I tried after getting gold for all the other specials and finally got it when the Ghosts life cycle was almost over. I should have thought of getting it on sticks and stones.
If you want to block bullets while running, run to the side a little bit. Point the left thumbstick at 10 o clock while running to do this. Note: people can shoot you in the legs but it's rare because most of them panic when they see someone charging at them with a shield.
I have practised in custom games with what I call the "Surprise" class. Substitute C4 for the Tomahawk (or two if u want), sponge the enemies bullets and then throw the tomahawk while they are reloading. Gets them all the time if your aim is true and nets you some cool kill cams as well. I find flashes work best against people behind cover/round corners as a blinded enemy is easier to bash than a concused one.
This is a great video. This will come as no surprise but I also found that running a Trophy System is helpful. If someone is shooting at your shield for an entire clip, I've found they typically will stop to throw something at you. As soon as they stop, throw down trophy behind object. Once they see projectiles getting blocked, they typically charge so you can either throw out C4 or pull out 2ndary to finish them off. Thanks for the great tips Drift!
Yea, I play on pc and I've been throwing tomahawks on people walking towards me with a shield and I've killed them. It's only happened once or twice since using the shield is a death wish on pc :P
***** well usually people who use riot shields are also good at tomahawks too on PC, also it might only be a lag glitch that you kill him with a tomahawk :)
I love your videos drift0r. I've seen every single on since mw3 it has helped me so much. I used to be a .7-8 kd player after learning about the guns and strategies i become a 4-5 kd player and am now very confident thanks so much
love it with the executioner with fast mags. youre most likely going to be within its effective range, and the shield helps get you into the 1 hit kill range
instead of C4 for lethal, I would recommend combat axe so when they are just standing still directly in front of you, you can with sleight of hand quickly chuck an axe strait at them
Also, engineer is really the only thing that makes sense to plug into the 3rd slot. Everything there seems like a waste, but you'll need an extra point to spend. At least with Engineer, you can see if an enemy in your area is throwing equipment, and if you or a teammate uses a care package, you can re-roll it! Type 25 is also good if you do happen to die, because you can push with this class as well. Carry it in places where longer range fights tend to happen, and the second you see an
Primary: Assault Shield Secondary: Rpg Perk I:Flack Jacket Perk II: Scavenger/Fast hands Perk III: Tactical Mask Lethal: C4 Tactical: Shock charge x2 I love this class it is my primary class. Sometimes I switch the rpg out for Kap 40 my other fave gun. Subscribed.
Drift, thanks so much for these vids, I'm not the best or most intuitive player out there in the COD world so these tips and detailed analysis are incredibly helpful.
Another option with fast hands and the assault shield is to take the combat axe. The axe is often unexpected, and you can hit them during that moment where they pause to think after emptying a clip into the shield, the same way you would with a pistol switch.
@MrKinglyGaming Turns out that the assault shield actually can only take two explosives, knives, or equivalents to destroy. But, the assault shield does not destroy when wielded, just when in a deployed state.
Another thing about the assault shield is that when they shoot you while you're wielding the shield, you get points for blocking damage, so you can earn score streaks faster.
It happens more often than you think. I've also got smack-dot-in the middle of the riot shield-sniped right through the riot shield, and smack-dot-right in the middle of the riot shield-executionered through a riot shield.
Sure thing but I agree on the use of a pistol or a weak machine pistol, could be sort of an accessory for the shield or an accessory for just one pistol/machine pistol, of course ADS shouldn't be available, reloading should leave your arm exposed while doing it and the deploying function should be disabled or become an accessory itself to prevent the shield from becoming too OP Tossing from behind the shield is too overpowered to me both for tactical and lethal, better stick to fast hands xD
allow you replenish your betty (and/or throw a 2nd one down!) and refill your Type 25 ammo. The reason I use a Type 25, is that you get the firing rate of an SMG but can hit targets with more power further out and have low recoil which really helps for the long distance shots. Most importantly, people will start sneaking in carefully, hoping to flank you from 1 direction while you're looking at the other 2 and charge you. That's where the Type 25's high fire rate and even hip-fire come into play
Driftor, hears some helpful advice, if your shield has a bunch of cracks on it you can reduce the cracks by planting the shield down and picking it back up.
another thing you see alot of people do is run throwing knife with the riot shield because it takes almost no time to throw with the shield up and if you line them up with the middle of your screen you can usually get them. But i do also like the secondary trick too
A great way to overcome the riot shield do to gameplay issues that you can exploit are a shot delivered to the head area with one of the Pump Action shotguns. I recommend the Remington. It's not a 100% guarantee but the spread normally can just catch the top of the head at close range thanks to some geometry glitches.
One way to counteract being shot while sprinting is to run at an angle. If you sprint, but tilt your aim to the right, you can run straight while covering yourself more thoroughly.
if you get a teammate or a friend on the enemy team to shoot the shield at the edges of your view you can keep the cracks to a minimum since it only tracks the first 5-10 bullets that hit the glass
I find the assault shield is a very nice secondary to an lmg when playing objective games. I set down the shield and use it as cover wile using my lmg to cover the objective.
some cool tricks i found with the riot shield is that if ever that broken bullet holed glass is blocking your vision and if there arent ennemis coming to you you can put it down (with RT obviously) and take it back and it will entierly restore just as it was when u spawned. I fount that My self
To rank up the shield quickly for gold camo and/or mastery it is advisable to play in hardcore kill confirmed mode. Using the following loadout of perks and tactical's: Primary: Assault Shield Secondary: None Tier one perk: Wildcard, Flack Jacket and Lightweight Tier two perk: Wildcard, Scavenger and Cold Blooded Tier three perk: Tactical Mask Lethal: None Tactical: Shock charge +2 Now camp in a dark corner. Cheap and dirty, but it gets it done fast.
I personally just like to run two c4's flack jacket protects you against one but two is will still kill. In addition if they aren't running flack jacket you get two c4's to throw which is always nice. My class is Flack jacket, fast hands, dexterity, Dangerclose Shield Two C4's Stun grenade Akimbo B23R'S I normally play search (you have to worry far less about running out of c4's/ ammo).
The assault shield will break if you plant it down. I've only had it break once on me, but there were grenades, hellstorm missiles, and rockets that were pummeling it for a really long time before it did break.
your not alone my friend it does ive wanted to akimbo a handgun or machine pistol since mw2 or another attachment would be a taser charge so if you melee'd youd stun them for a follow up hit, this would be balanced by tac mask just like for shock charge
Once on a last killcam there was a dude with the DSR50 that shot THROUGH the riot shield that had no gaps whatsoever. The bullet just went through the window, I think?
I use the assault shield A LOT and I have seen my planted shield break from a few clips of an enemy LMG. It is rare, but it has happened. Usually you will see the top start to recoil back violently and after about 10-15 seconds it will break, similar to how it breaks when you die while it is planted. That said, my shield regularly survives airstrikes while planted lol. Also be careful at close range because if someone stabs the shield it just goes right through -_-
You can deflect damage to a certain extent. With Flak Jacket you'll die from 2 crossbow bolts. Frags can be absorbed with relatively safe effects, all be it not as effective as the MW Riot Shields. What WILL kill you instantly are direct launcher hits, the Semtex and C4 if it explodes at your feet. Keep in mind, if your C4 charge detonates in front of the Assault Shield, that player will survive.
in a huge way! Doing this in your spawn in Arms Race or TDM ensures that your spawn will always be heavily protected by you, and if your team succeeds in clearing out THEIR spawn, their team will spawn in the middle of the map. Any of your teammates who died in the rush will hit them spawn side, and the guys who cleared their spawn will now double-back towards your spawn, and the enemy gets hit from 2 sides. You'll sweep games and people will rage quit!
Lol here's a good class for you guys I got a merciless from this once. Primary: Assault Shield Secondary: Nothing (Handheld knife) Or the ballistic knife Perk 1: Lightweight Perk 2: Scavenger Perk 3: Extreme Conditioning Tactical: Smoke Grenade Other tactical: Flashbang x2 Wildcard: Tactitian Just go around knifing the crap out of everyone and when you're going into high traffic area, throw a smoke then a flashbang then go in there and knife anyone you see. Your back will be protected decently with the assault shield on your back. Oh yeah also carry your assault shield into battle just in case the enemies are spraying and praying
i remember in the first week of black ops 2's launch alot of people were afraid of the assult shield,if they would see you coming they would back up,and you could easily smack em but now they see you as an easy kill, and just rush, jump around the corner and shoot you
my class setup, well my class recomendation is dexterity ,tac mask, flak jacket, fast hands-shock charge(s) and either tac-45 extended mag or b23r laser and red dot.
I noticed about the part to let enemies to fire all their shot and attack with riot shield while they are reloading. So, I fire as much as I can (depending on the gun) and always leave between 10-8 bullets in my gun and start the reload. Once they charge, I cancel reloading and usually kill them with the rest of my magazine.
got a similar class build, but this one is just for doing the challenges (the only real reason to run assault sheild anyway) Flak Jacket, Fast Hands, Scavenger, Tactical Mask, Extreme conditioning, sheild, shock charge x 2 perk 2 greed, perk 3 greed see someone, throw charge, run up on them smack once, throw charge, smack again, get scavenger pack, rinse and repeat
I think you should also have mentioned not only that with the Assault Shield and adecuate perks such as Flat Jacket and Tactical Mask you become the tank of the team, but also makes you a supporter. A tank unit has 2 purposes in battlefield; 1. To deflect incoming infantry fire. 2. To intimidate and produce the enough distraction so your allies can take down the enemy. Most people tend to surprise when encountering an Assault Shield, and if you are accompanied with teammates, is almost overkill. The enemy you have in front surely will be focused on trying to take you down, but leaving himself vulnerable to the attack of your teammates. You may not obtain the kill, but assistance always is welcome. In all game modes, even those who are not objective-based like Team Deathmatch, it helps to win the match. Remember, this is not always a individualist game.
Also, sticking C4 to it (that also goes for Semtex, which is really just a wad of C4 with highly adhesive tape around it, not actual Semtex), will not kill the user, it'll destroy the shield and stun the person behind it for about 1.5 seconds.
it wouldnt protect you as much though, since the second arm with the machine pistole would be exposed and if you ADS your head would expose from behind the shield. plus several people would probably tag team a slow moving target like that. It could be made more balanced what do you think?
Two things you didn't touch on. First, if you come across another shield user, you can bash them through their shield. Two hits will still kill them. Second, the moment you press y, or RB or ANYTHING that will cause your shield to move out from in front of you, you're vulnerable to fire. Even if on your screen and their screen the shield is in front of you. Also, getting shot directly through the shield happens a lot more than you think.
my setup is Primary: Riot shield Secondary: none perks in slot 1: lightweight and flake jacket perks in slot 2: fast hands and scavenger perks in slot 3: tactical mask lethal: none tactical: shock charge x2 wait untill enemy is reloading than throw shock charge at feet and bash! its the most fun in the game in my opinion! :D
I use this shield often but with an LMG. I plant the shield for cover and I pretend to be a sentry gun. I use bouncing bettys and shock charges as an early warning system when someone is coming from behind.
planting the shield will break, if you run engineer the shield shows up as red and it only takes a few hits to destroy it or hack it.I havent tested this since the games release because I dont run engineer anymore.
1:53 You could've showed a view of how it looks on your back when crouched, and you didn't even mention Overkill. Having a primary as a secondary with the Shield helps also.
so that you're protected in full from 1 side, and 50% protected by the other 2. Setting up in your spawn is preferred. Go back behind your shield and throw 2 trophy systems on each side. Keep your target finder up and wave it back-and-forth every now and then to check your different spots. Pretend you're a turret and it's a lot of fun! You're now armored, immune to all explosives, tacticals, AND immune to Hunter Killers as the trophy systems will bat them out of the air! Scavenger will
So here's a good Dom start. 3 players take your side flag, and the other 2 and you rush B. Your trophy is out and deflects their explosives. You're now at B with a C4 and 2 teammates ready to shoot. If you need to, you have a C4 plus shield bash to clean up. You now have B. Yes this class doesn't have fast hands or great KD but with a decent team and good strategy, you WILL win objective games, and your team has you to thank... every. single. time.
I'm surprised he wasn't using tomahawks. i use the shield quite often in objective based game modes, especially demolition/ sabotage, and i always carry tomahawks, for their unsurpassed speed in killing, and since usually people will be too busy spraying to strafe, making them easy targets when they reload. i also usually have an extra riot shield class just for camping, in which i use overkill and [insert favorite gun] along with a insert and different perks to utilize the mobile head glitch.
I would think that you should be restricted in weapon choice for a second weapon, so you can't use something like the skorpion. I think increasing damage or stunning the enemy but having slower movement would be a nice attachment. The main thing is you get shot from the side a lot, but that's mainly lag.
i think there should be attachments for the shield to like make it taller or longer which could impact your movement speed or there could be a attachments to make the shield smaller but you could move faster.
You used to be able to survive crossbow sticks and semtex sticks with the shield if you had flak jacket. All you had to do was place it. Now it instantly detonates if you try that trick, so at least Treyarch fixed something in their game. Also what the Wiki meant by it breaking is that explosives break a planted shield as I painfully have great experience with due to entire teams throwing their instant brick of death C4's at me.
I agree, longer melee distance, ACTUAL hit detection and no bullshit lag compensation causing you to be shot THROUGH the shield need to be addressed. Then it would be feasable to use.
Did you ever used to use the riot shield trick in MW2 when you would hit and then cancel part of the animation by pulling out a throwing knife, then pressing triangle/Y to put it away? I'm so used to hitting switch that I always die after 1 smack.
lol i remember in SND, there where 4 people behind the shield, and i was the last one alive on my team. the score was also 3 to 3 so next round wins. I put 160 rounds with the death machine on that shield and just one person stood up and sniped me. I almost cried
Sorry if I misunderstood, but does killing people with secondary weapons contribute to leveling up the shield if the shield gets shot, or did you mean secondaries contribute to general leveling up to level 55?
actually i just tested the riot shield and i can tell you that it brakes from : knifing it twice any side it will brake,2 c4,2 rpg rockets,6 crossbow arrows and from 1 knife and about 2 and a half qbb lsw mags if they shot at the middle of the shield near the glass
You CAN break a planted shield. Believe it or not, you get 50 score for destroying it. I mainly used EMP grenades when I played Blops 2 and this channel helped me improve.
Drift0r, I have a question. When you block bullets, you get 10 points and it says 'blocked damage' . I remember from MW3, the riot shield never broke, and when you stood in front of a sentry gun you could spam points. I haven't been able to test this in BO2 though, and could you check if it works on this as well? Thanks, nfsu242
I made a class called 'Troll' with the Riot Shield, KAP-40, scavenger and shock charges. The shockers make getting smack kills pretty easy and hilarous :x
If the riot shield is planted it takes two explosives to destroy it, however if you pick it up after one explosion it 'resets' and the shield can take another two explosions after you've re-planted it.
Wacky Waily Arm Inflatable Tube Man!
Like for that
And now the riot shield…
I hate that bullets can sometimes glitch right through the shield, getting this gold was such a pain with the scorpion sometimes glitching throught the shield :(
No, getting the bloodthirsty with the crossbow was a pain.
Meh, did it in sticks and stones, got it pretty quickly
Lewis Ross Oh that's nice.
I tried after getting gold for all the other specials and finally got it when the Ghosts life cycle was almost over.
I should have thought of getting it on sticks and stones.
Haha, ive had a few after i got it diamond on search an destroy since you get ammo back between rounds
Lewis Ross Haha really nice to know.
I guess I destroyed my stats for nothing.
im ready for bo2 remastered

I miss this
yeah it happens a lot. i got shot by a r870 straight through the shield yesterday. i almost broke my fuking controller
I have to admit that the assault shield is surprisingly effective against quick-scopers, especially when you give them a pocket shotgun surprise.
Driftor when the shield is planted it can break but only if knifed twice
+J K Gaming It can also break if you blow it up twice.

in console i find it very hard to kill shielded enemies cause the aim sticks to the shield whereas pc has the ability to kill unshielded body areas.
Knife the shield or use a tomahawk to kill it

see someone, throw charge, run up on them smack once, throw charge, smack again, get scavenger pack, rinse and repeat
yep. i like using the KAP 40-long barrel/laser sight. it's basically a pseudo-submachine gun when i use it that way c:

it wouldnt protect you as much though, since the second arm with the machine pistole would be exposed and if you ADS your head would expose from behind the shield. plus several people would probably tag team a slow moving target like that.
That's the trick always attack your enemy when they are off guard, such as reloading, swapping to secondary, going to another side, etc.
my setup is
Primary: Riot shield
Secondary: none
perks in slot 1: lightweight and flake jacket
perks in slot 2: fast hands and scavenger
perks in slot 3: tactical mask
lethal: none
tactical: shock charge x2
wait untill enemy is reloading than throw shock charge at feet and bash! its the most fun in the game in my opinion!
Having a primary as a secondary with the Shield helps also.
stun grenades are very useful for shield bashing. throw it and get to the side or behind the enemy player. works almost every time
so that you're protected in full from 1 side, and 50% protected by the other 2.
Scavenger will
I use it with an m27 and trophy system in demolition, make's a great defender class
When you have a primary gun aswell
Great ep as usual
So here's a good Dom start. 3 players take your side flag, and the other 2 and you rush B. Your trophy is out and deflects their explosives. You're now at B with a C4 and 2 teammates ready to shoot. If you need to, you have a C4 plus shield bash to clean up. You now have B.
Yes this class doesn't have fast hands or great KD but with a decent team and good strategy, you WILL win objective games, and your team has you to thank... every. single. time.
Wow my favourite item in the game back than. Had the lsat with thermal on raid peeking down middle whilst in smoke. Got a whole bunch of kills.
Excellent guide. Took away a lot from this. Thanks!
I would think that you should be restricted in weapon choice for a second weapon, so you can't use something like the skorpion. I think increasing damage or stunning the enemy but having slower movement would be a nice attachment. The main thing is you get shot from the side a lot, but that's mainly lag.
The only two things you need to know about the shield are: 1) Deploy shield. 2) Head glitch.
You've just mastered the shield. Congrats.
IIRC, you can still pick up a fallen Riot Shield and use it again.
You just can't plant it anymore once it's been knocked over.
i think there should be attachments for the shield to like make it taller or longer which could impact your movement speed or there could be a attachments to make the shield smaller but you could move faster.
Drift0r, I think I saw a video that said that frags can destroy planted shields. Did you test lethals vs. assault shield?
Did you ever used to use the riot shield trick in MW2 when you would hit and then cancel part of the animation by pulling out a throwing knife, then pressing triangle/Y to put it away? I'm so used to hitting switch that I always die after 1 smack.
Thanks so much for these in depths! I've never played smarter in any Call of Duty before :D
lol i remember in SND, there where 4 people behind the shield, and i was the last one alive on my team. the score was also 3 to 3 so next round wins. I put 160 rounds with the death machine on that shield and just one person stood up and sniped me. I almost cried
How do you even figure the statistics out? it's astonishing
Man I agree with you. it is a pain in the ass. it even lowered my k/d by 0.06. but i guess its worth it.
Sorry if I misunderstood, but does killing people with secondary weapons contribute to leveling up the shield if the shield gets shot, or did you mean secondaries contribute to general leveling up to level 55?
actually i just tested the riot shield and i can tell you that it brakes from :
knifing it twice any side it will brake,2 c4,2 rpg rockets,6 crossbow arrows and from 1 knife and about 2 and a half qbb lsw mags if they shot at the middle of the shield near the glass
Thanks,

I made a class called 'Troll' with the Riot Shield, KAP-40, scavenger and shock charges. The shockers make getting smack kills pretty easy and hilarous :x
The red thing behind you in the first scene was stealing my attention.
