If I think of something that I want to do with my hair, no lie, the next thing that I know you post a video about it! I seriously just thought about how I would put twists in my straight hair now I feel confident that I can. Thanks for the video!
Beautiful job!!! I haven't worn twists very often, only braids. I usually re-braid the frizzy areas as needed and use a cream or shea butter. Gel is used in the summer due to the humidity.
Your twists are gorgeous! I love staet8on stretched twists. I just finished washing and retwisting my hair. I'm in the same twists that I started in October for your challenge, but I combined several of them. They were so small, that, even though they weren't micros, they too easily tangled, especially at the ends.
Great video! I like the idea of starting on straight hair. It seems like the process would go soooo much faster. I will likely transition out of my straight hair into twists before I shampoo next time. I generally do my twists on damp, non stretched hair. I like the appearance, but it is very time consuming as my hair tangles as I work on other section, so I am slowed down by having to constantly detangle every section before I twist it. I h ave tried eco styler gel on my ends. Like you, I got the idea of gelling my ends from indigenous strands as well. Haven't tried flax seed gel yet. It did seem to work, though which is good. Keeping those knots away is critical.
I had to gracefully bow out of the protective style challenge because I want to get back to uploading self care content and I have a hair video next on my list. Your hair is so beautiful😍
Thank you so much! I'm all here for the self care videos. That is definitely a goal of mine this year so I will definitely be checking out your channel.
I’m currently stretching my relaxer and I might be transitioning, but I’ve been natural several times over the last 10 years lol . I usually have a spray leave in conditioner, a cream leave in conditioner, and castor oil or some Shea Butter. I’ve never used any type of gel for my twists.
I used just wear protective styles with added hair for a month, take it down and wash it. I never really wore twist for an extended amount of time. I used them to get from one style to another.
I like the idea of a spray and leave in conditioner while twisting. Will have to try that! Let me know if you do transition- how long do you usually stretch your relaxers if you don’t mind me asking?
@@EfficientlyNatural I usually stretch my relaxers from 10-12 weeks. If I have a protective style then I stretch even longer otherwise I’m wearing wigs or headwraps. I’m planning on doing some human hair faux locs (inspired by IamKoi on TH-cam)and try to keep them in at least 6 months with maintenance in between. Pray for me this is gonna be me first time 🙏🏾😩🤣
I love Shescentit Tahitian vanilla spray for detangling, and Shea Moisture’s twist butter for styling (or the curl enhancing smoothie). I’m planning to get my hair retwisted soon but need the parts to be amazing so I may pay someone to do it. Your hair looks lovely as always!
I probably could use a detangling spray so I'll be checking that one out. Do you feel it works well? Also, you can pay someone to part your hair??? Where has this service been all my life?
@@EfficientlyNatural I’ve used that detangling spray for at least 9 years and nothing comes close. Introduced all my friends to it and we buy it in bulk because the site runs out quick lol ... I bought 8 bottles my last order ... that’s how much I love it for my 4c hair. Lol I don’t think I can pay someone to part my hair, but I’ll pay someone to do the entire head (part and twist) or feed a friend of mine in exchange for parting my hair while we watch a movie. In my head, I’m in your growth challenge ... I don’t remember if I officially signed up ... I think I did .... but I’ll be growing mine out with twists. Hoping to get to WL this year.
You are making me rethink locking my hair. Now I want to grow my hair to waist length too. That will be too much work I’m not sure I want to deal with. But with protective styling I believe I should be fine. Love the video.
Wow!!! Beautiful young woman😘 so very proud of you right now. Lovely thick hair. I can only wish & dream to have that lenght/ thickness etc,, God bless you
Nancy!! Loved this video (like all the others). How long did this take you to do? How long do you plan to keep them in? Also, was the straight hair from your same silk press six weeks ago? I've learned so much from you about straight styles for 4c hair. I finally "silk pressed" my hair & bought the sulfur 8 like you, and use oil.. it literally looks amazing & we actually have similar densities too. I'm quite encouraged! God bless!
Thanks! Glad you liked it. I always forget to time myself but it took several hours - atleast 3. I’m so glad my straight hair routine was helpful! How long will you keep your silk press?
Efficiently Natural you're so welcome! Well I'm coming up to 3 weeks but when I listened to you keeping it straight for 6.. I was determined to see if I could do it lol. Consider this a straight/stretched protective style challenge maybe? I've never done this with straight natural hair before, so far it still looks amazing & quite clean for having not washed it this long! Thanks again!
Haha! I think the amount of time I keep twists in my hair makes it worth it. So while the installation process takes hours, I keep them in for six weeks and that allows me to save a bunch of time doing my hair
Your hair is beautiful!! How long do you keep the flat iron styles before you wash? I've blow dried and flat ironed my natural hair 2 weeks now. Watching your videos to see what I can do with straighten hair before wash day ( monthly )
I used to twist my hair with just oil and water, I'd retwist once a month the longer my hair grew it got more and more harder to manage because my strands loved to be intertwined with each other like they're in love lol, girlfriend I got sick of detangling my hair so I started locs🤣🤣🤣 but your is absolutely beautiful 🥰🥰🥰.
I totally understand you in that. I feel like locs are calling to me...especially those sister locs. ❤️ That might be the next chapter in my hair journey
Gurrrllllll.....when I read your hair strands like to be intertwined like they're in love....babyyyy, I felt that thing! I just twisted my own shoulder length hair last night and I'm STILL tired from all that detangling. Looking for a heating pad now to relax my neck......Too funny!
i dont mean to be so offtopic but does any of you know a trick to log back into an Instagram account? I was dumb lost the login password. I would love any tips you can give me
Your skin is amazing too 😊 My twists usually unravel unless done on wet hair but for the future I’m going to try blowing it out and then twisting with a gel which will wet it up a bit. You may not have heat damage. When it’s pulled back and the oil laying on it, it’s probably trained more to be straight. I think you will be good after washing.... or hopefully 😊 but yeah it’s not the end of the world.
I’ve been transitioned for a little over a year before I big chopped. I had great success with no heat and wash n go. I noticed that as my hair grew longer, I developed a lot of single strand knots impeding length retention. The last couple of months I’ve been braiding or twisting my hair as a protective style. I am sealing my ends with Shea butter. What are your thoughts on butters vs gels for sealants?
I have traditionally used butters and oils on my ends and found they have worked fairly well for keeping ssks at bay, especially thicker oils like castor oil. But I find they need to be applied fairly frequently to work. I haven’t used gels on my ends much in the past but decided to try out a gel this time around, and so far so good. The jury is still out though. I imagine gels might last longer and give your ends more hold and potentially prevent more ssks but I’m still testing it out.
Wow, I just found you on utube n have watched tons of your videos already. wooow you n your hair are pretty Am subscribing as asap If u don't mind how long have you being natural?
Thank you!!! I stopped getting relaxers in December 2009 and transitioned over several years. So my journey started 12 years ago but I was fully natural with no relaxer around 2015.
I’ve had twists in since mid December but they’re not nearly as full as yours! I have fine, medium density 3b hair so they look more like Senegalese/rope twists. I wash and detangle in twists every two weeks and I retwist the top/front every week. I’m still playing with what products I like, but using a gel seems to make them stay neater longer!

The best way to do twist is on blow dried hair.
Agreed!!! That’s my preference too

I will agree that the gel definitely seems to keep them looking a bit neater for longer. I wish I had the patience to wash/detangle every 2 weeks!
I wish I could make them last longer than two weeks! My hair just starts to slip out of the twists and get tangled, even if I wrap my hair every night
AidaM- same!!!
