    Anytime I drive my '87 16V, it turns heads and I hear people yelling, "yeeeaahhh, Scirocco!!!" Lots of smiles per miles! Mahalo for making this video!

    Exactly the same as mine. Had it for 3 years right out of collage. It was one of the few regrets in life was selling it just to purchase a new 16V Jetta back in ‘94. Awesome looking car.

    Back in the day when VWs didn't look like every other car on the road. They had a very unique personality. I used to sell them.

    I cleaned the cosmoline off a couple of these when they were fresh off the truck.
    Drove a bunch of 87's doing dealer trades.
    1987 was a great year for VW

      @@VWLifeVW I drove many more Jetta GLI and Vanagons. The Fox and Golf GT's had just come out and the GTI became 16v only. Still a few 8 valve Sciroccos too in 1987.
      They were the big sellers that i detailed most.

    That is the best, and most original '87 16v I can recall seeing in years. My '87 is a one owner (me!) and I wish it was half as nice as this. You are right they are rare. The looks I get when they find out it's a VW are priceless! I see more Scirocco's at Mid-Ohio running SCCA H-Prod and IT classes than public roads. Truly a beautiful example, thanks for sharing.

    What I love about this Scirocco, besides the styling and the red paint that pops is, it doesn’t have a bunch of freaking tech. I just installed new push rod tube oil seals on my 1978 VW Camper Bus because my wife said she smelled oil burning. Easy to diagnose and fix. However her 2020 VW Tiguan has a Oil Sensor Message with a little yellow oil can, and although I’ve replaced the oil, filter and three oil sensors, the light won’t go out. So I’ve ordered a $200 Ross Tech scanner from FCP Euro, and a service manual that comes in PDF on my IPad. I hate tech. I used to want a new GTI. I don’t think so. Her car’s owners manual doesn’t even tell me how many liters of oil to use to do an oil change. Don’t get me started.
    What was the original question? Oh yeah. Nice Scirroco! I need one of those 80s cars like my 1980 Rabbit that I bought new. I should have kept it. Rant over.😎👍

      @LinguraDeLemn93 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I feel you man. Same goes for all newer stuff. I had 3 80s bmws that I would redline and down shift them like I stole them and even after 370,000 miles on my last one it still ran like it was new.. wish I could say the same about the 2011 bmw I owned for less than a year and had loads of issues that all were very costly and difficult to change. I love my vanagon it has 630,000 miles and I can actually fix most anything on it myself

    I have one of these although in need of a resto... In Iceland. It is a US spec with the big biiiig bumpers and square headlights so it was no doubt delivered to a US soldier based here in the late 80s early 90s.

    My first car back in 1991 was a 1988 Scirocco 16v. It was black with the pinstripe interior and tinted windows... and I absolutely loved it!! No matter how many Porsche's I've owned since (8), including 2 manual 928's, 911's including twin Turbo's, etc... that car will always not only have a very special place in my heart, it may honestly be the car that I've had the most fun driving. Thanks for sharing this video and gorgeous example!

    I approve of this Scirocco content, lol. I had a '89 MK2 Jetta GLI Helios Blue car back in the early 90s and it had the 1.8L 16v and it's a great engine! I should've never sold that but I didn't know just how rare it was. This was before the interwebs but I never saw another 1 like it at the time. I do have a complete Recaro interior and Helios seats to go in my '86 GTI though.

    That water cooled "oil cooler" was first introduced on the waterboxer engine. What they do is actually help the warm up of the engine since the coolant will be over 200 degrees, but once the engine is to operating temperature, and the coolant temp stabilizes, it does offer some cooling to the oil, but not very much, since the temperature differential between the coolant and the oil isn't very much. So, calling them an oil cooler really isn't very accurate. Now, if you upgrade the cooling system, with a more effective radiator and fan, and lower the stock coolant temperatures, and can keep the coolant below 200 degrees, that little "oil cooler" will provide some extra benefit for oil temps.

    Great looking car. I looked at that a tt and a jetta gli. At 6 ft 1 I only fit in the jetta. What an amazing engine. 200,000 miles and it was never opened except for the timing belt. My jetta rusted away but I'm sorry I didn't restore it with the 5 speed ac and recarro seats. But that scirocco looks great. Still love my cabrio though. Good feature VW Life, Karl enjoy thar car. It's beautiful.

    I had one of these….it absolutely was not fast at all…happiest cruising at highway speeds…bumpers kind of ruined the lines visually…traded it for an Audi. The price premium made it one of the least satisying new car purchases I’ve ever made

I do all my own work as there really isn’t anyone here in Chicago who knows how any more. Had a Corrado for a while…but cost of changing timing chain was crazy. I haven’t bought a new vw since…
