    Katie, this was an absolute joy to watch and a pleasure to knit to. I've been toying with the idea of learning how to spin as well so I'll definitely be checking out the video with your lesson! 😊

    Oh Katie, you are so prescious and wonderful. You remind me of a delicate butterfly who was kept in a cage for a long time. Now you are free and healing has occured. Fly butterfly, fly.

      I had a similar experience when I first went to college to study art. This time it was the department head, that despite my A/B grades in my art classes advised me that I had no talent. Mind you, he hadn't actually taught any of my classes, but thought it was his job to discourage me, and he did. I didn't paint, draw, or do any crafts for 7 years because of his opinion (and changed my major to Religion). I've since learned better, and I'm glad you have also! And dear Katie too! I would so much rather encourage someone myself, because I believe everyone has some gift to share!

    Nice to see you laughing a lot this episode! Your finished objects are very nice, and I love your stamps. For the hat, I agree with Killtocraft that you might want to try to wash and block again. Ususally, the wool should be bouncing back. Especially with a piece that you spent so much time with, before ripping (in case that re-blocking does not do the job) I would probably opt with sewing in a soft broad elastic so that the hat rim has a little support. And thanks for showing the English version of that book, because I am a poor sewist, so I need some more explanations, Japanese won't do for me.
    Thanks, Katie, for this again very nice episode!

    Hi Katie, I just spent a whole forty minutes watching your podcast. Your calmness mesmerizes to the point where I can’t knit, I just watch and listen. And to hear you laugh was so great! Sewing does take up a lot of space, I’ll be doing a queen size quilt soon so everyone is on notice to eat before they come. Cheers,🇨🇦

    My mother would hand sew thread eleatic through the ribbing of our hats because as kids we would always stretch them out.

  • @thumbelinaspins
    @thumbelinaspins 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I've avoided re-knitting ribbing by getting some tiny sewing elastic and threading it through the ribbing and tying it to size. I usually put about 3 or 4 rows in depending on the depth of the rib. Hi from Brisbane, Australia

    Hi Katie, lovely to hear from you since Yarndale, and lovely to meet you, although briefly. Yes , the weather was terrible wasn't it. Your publications. "The Green Bean" about rock pools I loved, "More Than Yarn" also. Both very informative. I haven't attempted the "Scrufts" pattern yet though, probably the new year,
    Thank you for this podcast, as with all your others it is a beautiful podcast especially from 12:01 - 15:10. I have to say it touched my heart and brought me to tears. I love guitar music and this incorporated with your quiet soothing manner was peaceful and touching at the same time. Looking forward to the next one. With Love xx

    Wait, don't cut the hat yet! Re soak it, I have a bralette which is rib and stretches out every time I wear it but when I re soak it it bounces back again! It might be worth a try before you do it all again. x

    • @karleenpage5979
      @karleenpage5979 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I was going to suggest this also, but this time lay flat to dry, shaping the ribbing. In addition you may be able to find some thin elastic thread and baste it around the edge of the hat to help it hold its shape.

    I have the very same issue when sewing-I take over at least two rooms ( one of which is basically my knitting room/spare room-with hardly any room for a guest 😉)...making a mess with threads; bits of fabric, notions... Soooo-I find it very challenging to sew when anyone else is around. In fact, I’m taking tomorrow off work to sew and make a mess in solitude ☺️

    I love my Jack stamp, will have to try coloring his sweater in. I didn’t realize that ferns turned that lovely brownish/burgundy color. I have seen them that golden/brownish. The dapple grey horse has me thinking of a lovely white/grey sock yarn in my stash, so thinking they will be my next pair. Thanks for the inspiration. I will give a look at the HeyBrownBerry pattern.

    I would try to soak the hat first. The stretch may come back when you make it wet and don't block it is as aggressively

  • @keramiktrine
    @keramiktrine 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    I would dip the ribbing part of the hat in water, or simply sprinkle some water on that particular part. The ribbing should regain a better fit.

  • @lynnrobertson3940

  • @HermioneGranger-eh3sk
    @HermioneGranger-eh3sk 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Lovely podcast. As others have suggested, could you just try re-soaking the ribbing and either not block it at all or just block it gently?

    Can you not soak it and re-block the hat? Or at least the ribbing portion? That is so annoying! Most of my hats, unless they are “Headache tight” on the bands always either slip over my eyes or up onto my crown. I must have a bit of a pointy head and I know i have slippery hair.
