Now play Basket Case on that Casket Bass
I thought the same!
He might not have the time to listen to you whine.
Bravo
Casket Case
@@rakzparkingu2353 on the basket bass
I first saw Charles at an event in New Hampshire, USA about 12 years ago called Bass Solo Fun. It was a competition for bass players of all types of music to compose a solo and perform it. Charles had his LeFay bass with the leavers and he just blew everyone away, and today he still blows everyone away. Masterful as usual, Charles!
Wow thank you for supporting me for so long! I really appreciate it!
You're supposed to say "north of Boston." Nobody actually knows where NH is. 😉 😂
(Heck, i remember once when The Weather Channel labeled NH & VT backwards)
There's only one bass I love more than his LeFay… His fretless LeFay. 💙
I wish I was into Bass 12 years ago... Damn it
Your damn lucky man! Better appreciate the fact you saw this man in person. Hello from Florida!!
The Piccolo Bass Formally Known as Guitar
True
Best signature-short-scale piccolo bass name ever 🔥
@@CharlesBerthoudthat joke will never get old
😂😂😂😂😂 Nailed It!
“Tenor Guitar” 🙄
That piccolo bass is nothing short of extraordinary, but I can't be surprised if it is historical with an extraordinary artist in Prince. You did it justice as always!
I'm not sure if it's a joke or a mistake, but these are just guitars. Prince played normal sized basses. He never owned any "piccolo bass".
the tone on the first bass was insane
Yeah! Sound wise, that one was definitely my favorite! I was not expecting that sound to come from that guitar, and it was absolutely beautiful! 💖
A sound to die for!
“Everyone's favorite, The Razorblade." I love you, man
The Razorblade is amazingly consistent.
It looks like crap.
It sounds like crap.
The ergonomics are crap.
The guy who designed it can't play worth a crap.
It's crap all the way down.
It looks pretty “sharp”! 😃
@@srsbsns7673lmao MGK can play guitar probably better than you tbh
@@RabbiB0Yand maybe one day, he’ll even write a song that’s interesting!
about a year and a half ago i got to meet Sean Yseult and play bass alongside her at a School Of Rock workshop. she told us a couple life stories before we played a couple White Zombie songs and some songs that influenced her and her style. she signed the headstock of the bass i played with her. a damn cool experience.
nice pfp
Love to see Sean Yseult get a shout out, the glue of the early White Zombie sound. Ill always remember the stare of death she directed at Rob when he almost decked her in the face "dancing" during their first TV spot on Letterman in 1995.
i just watched that and i didnt see her stare at him at all.. Im assuming its the same one,, was it during "More human than human"? I will say looking at how little room they had to move around its kind of amazing they didnt collide at some point, especially since Rob prob couldnt see shit through his hair/dreads and sunglasses...
The only time i saw that he was that close to her and wildly dancing to do what you said was the very beginning,,,
NOTE: Im not disputing you, im just not sure if im seeing the same video or not or i missed it somehow because of the video quality i watched...
I had a mad crush on her in my early teens, one of favorite bassists of all time.
I play 6 string bass, and occasionally the 6 string short scale piccolo bass 😉 great as always, sir!
My pick for most beautiful piccolo bass goes to "The Cloud" (white/gold) Prince used in the movie. The purple version looks amazing as well.
The Casket has a great haunting growl to it. I love it!
I see Prince's guitars - I smash Like faster than a speeding bullet.
I really love The Gold Experience album, from an era he used the Symbol guitar. The man was pure genius.
Hearing you tap on a short scale, six-string piccolo bass reminded me a lot of Stanley Jordan's playing.
its sad knowing so many people don't know how incredible Prince was at guitar. The man could lay it down. EDIT RIP brother.
You never cease to amaze Charles.
As a Prince fan and fan of yours, this could not have been more delightful. Thank you.
I see Prince, I click. Simple as that.
He wasn't very tall, but he's forever the biggest rockstar in my heart 💜 unmatched.
Did you know that he also played super funky bass riffs?
I love the unwavering commitment to some sort of sense of humor in everything you do (with a few understandable exceptions)!
I love hearing you play without backing tracks. Really good stuff.
i love BASS ,i love PRINCE , i love YOU, thank you for these moments of happiness for my ears .
Just imagine have the honor to play those basses, that was once played by that Legend... Charles Berthoud
I was logged in the right time! As always, amazing ! ;^
BOSS MODE!!! Wasn’t expecting this one! I’m glad you posted this!
Awesome playing as always! The "Razorblade" bass really cuts through. :)
RIP Prince
Gone, way too soon!
Prince died?
You never cease to amaze me Charles. It seems your talents are boundless. Thank you for sharing your blessing with me. I've decided I want to be like you when I grow up. (I'm 67.)0
Blessings from Kansas~
This guy just takes bass and guitar to the next level. One of the best living stringed instrumentalist.
1:25 Did you just bust out Mario?
Super Mario Land for the Gameboy, for sure. Glad I'm not the only one who noticed!
YES!
I caught that too!
I legit checked the comments to see if anyone noticed that.
Charles, you MUST do a collab with The Kiffness!
YES!!
Wooow Charles! I didn't know you can TAP Guitar... I mean short scale piccolo bass so good! 👌
Those were some really nice compositions to hear on the piccolo basses. They suited you.
I really like this little 6-string bass which is shaped like a guitar. Amazing playing, as always. Greetings!
They're all insane and fit pefectly your talent Charles !
Please, full version of background music!!!!!!
This is the best one I’ve ever heard
He made those Prince ones sound like a tack piano!
You're just insane man. The variety of things you are ready to play at any instant completely boggles my mind as a fellow musician.
I know the focus of this is on the guitars themselves, but your playing dude... My god, I've been watching you for a good while and you never fail to amaze me.
Is what he plays on the prince symbol guitar a actual song? It sounds fantastic and I want a full version
What an honor to hold and play some of those instruments. Wonderful.
I once saw Robben Ford play piccolo bass with Miles Davis. It was amazing.
Thank you Charles for displaying your awesome talent. So cool!.
INCREDIBLE showcase of 6 string piccolo basses. I personally prefer the sound of the standard bass, but it's about time that this niche instrument gets some love. And there's so many incredible bassists on it too, like Prince and Tom Morello and Jimmy Page, and we can't forget about Jimmy Hendricks. Glad they're finally getting the recognition they deserve. Always overshadowed by standard bassists like Guy Berryman and Michael Anthony.
wow, that second to the last was pretty cool, you can even hang your leg on it if you're feeling lazy while playing bass😂😂
Love your playing mate. It's beyond me that after all these years musicians haven't done a lot with instrument experimentation. 'Here is my one string bass with a harmonica attached to the pickup magnetically going through my Mum's friend Janet'....bypassed.
Been playing for over 20 years, new but very longtime subscriber here. What a find, guess my head was under a rock!
You too?
Yep How goes it?really trying to relight the fire myself
Let’s be straight here - the man who makes the music makes the instrument speak - you are a genius Charles thanks for sharing - the 3/4 guitar is really beautiful 🙏
Nobody talking about how nice and clean the playing is? Lots of fancy piccolo tapping with oodles of distortion around. Not saying it’s some near impossible level feat per se, but it is very very nice.
Makes me wonder how several instruments played together would sound. It could be a really cool collab. Combine bass solo with low end bass support and piccolo treble.
Your mastery of that instrument is stunning 😊😊😊
But you did not say who played the razorblade!
One cool thing about being a Schecter endorsee is you might get access to some really cool stringed instruments.
I'm glad all the hard work paid off, man. God bless.
In High school, my friends and I made a 2 string base out of a double-bladed ax handle, and a wood ax head.
crazy dude.
I am listening to my discover weekly right now and a song of yours popped up. Without looking I was thinking, that bass god infested my Spotify too now. And I was right. It is you my meme lord. You've got a very recognisable playing style. Very nice! Keep up the good work :)
An absolutely amazing talented man, I have followed his videos, a Gift like no others, so very cool to watch, Thank you Charles.
That casket bass doesn't have much life in the sound.
This was enjoyable, Thank You! Good playing! I've told myself when I can achieve some things on guitar...I am going to reward myself with a cloud guitar. Full size....and it helps that I am a Prince fan.
You should be proud of yourself. When I was a kid, being the bass player was a running joke. You've not only proved that wrong but inspired so many new musicians. Kudos bro.
Prince played piccolo bass because he was so little. That’s hilarious.
@1:50 - the best thing I have ever heard you play. You go well with Prince.
I would love to see Charles doing a cover of "Baby one more time" as the hardest song ever made.
Tenacious D has you covered. No need for any other version!
Prince would have been proud!
Everyone: "No one will ever want to play that Razorblade monstrosity!"
Charles: (plays it beautifully)
Everyone: "I really wanna play one of those Razorblade Monstrosities!"
I may not know anything about the technical aspect of a Bass Guitar however, the best sounding Bass guitar I have heard Charles play is the LeFay especially when he goes from the E & A string to the D & G string they are very complimentary to each other, unlike the Shecter Signature Bass; which doesn't sound that great between the top 2 and bottom 2 string! The 6 string Shecter sound great too...
I think Prince would've deemed you worthy prior to you playing his guitars..... and would've approved your playing after the fact. Pancakes for you with extra syrup.
And blueberries 🫐
I love your videos, I recently started bass I'm roughly 13 and am coincidentally a redhead, keep up the good work wonderful job! Also if anyone has any tips for soloing and playing chords I would appreciate that.
Nevermind just saw his second channel
Been a Prince fan since early childhood. Damn it man... You finally won me over!
I am sure Prince would have loved to watch and hear you play them! :)
The first part of the melody you played on the two first ones is very similar to "splitter pine", a song by norwegian band dumdum boys.
1:25 That is definitely a song out of a Sonic the Hedgehog game!! I just can't remember which one!
It's a bit weird hearing Prince's cloud guitar played like a bass! Haha but it's a unique perspective that's for sure :)
I think that's actually from super mario land. Edit: just checked it, sounds a lot like a part in the world 1 theme of super mario land!
I can’t believe how many styles you absolutely master!
Well... At least 3 out of the 4 were pretty cool. I also learned today that Prince played bass, not traditional guitar. Good stuff, Charles - keep the grooves coming!
Didn't he play both? Pretty sure one of his main guitars was Hohner Madcat (which was basically a Telecaster variant) and he also played a light blue/grey strat during his famous superbowl performance.
I've been playing guitar for over 20 years. Every time you upload all I can say to myself is "I picked the wrong instrument"
The king of tap style bass
Jokes aside, it’s crazy to watch you play with these instruments. I especially like the ragtime feel of the second one with the riff you played on it.
Minneapolis native approved! I never knew they were piccolo
Me too, always thought they were standard guitars, you live you learn, R.I.P. Prince
@@reeceholmes8546 maybe its a joke and they're guitars lol
ahhh, the jokes on me, thanks man I'm happy now@@devinthierault
Berthoud is the best because he is constantly trying new things and pushing his abiiities.
2:17 puts me in mind of what would happen if you made a National guitar into a bass and then electrified it. It'd be interesting to hear Romeo and Juliet on it.
So that's the song always playing on the intro and outro to alot of the videos, I like it alot.
The piccolo has a tone that would fit in very much with some of Sting's work.
Well that was a joy to watch. Thank you.
As a guitarist I am just so embarrassed how long it took me to figure out that a 6-string short scale piccolo bass is a guitar.
I mean - - - I'm like, that thing looks just like a guitar. And its like an octave higher than a normal bass. and I didn't even know Prince played bass. I'm sure he could, but I really thought he played guitar.
Yes - Prince was a pretty, small guy.
Shecter is such an amazing brand of instrument. My hell raiser special is my most played guitar by far.
I have a six string Warrior bass for fun (I'm a "six string piccolo bass" player) and when I look at the fretboard when I play, my hand looks like a 5yr old kids!
Чарльз, я уже думал купить какой-нибудь бас, но вы заставляете их цены взлетать вверх с каждым днём😂
You actually had me for a moment. I was like, they make me piccolo bass?
I play guitar🤣
Nice to see ya back❤❤🙏🙏🪬🪬🪬💎💎🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🥃🥃🥃
You didn’t try out any basses - they tried YOU! And they were all astonished!
Awesome! That cloud guitar tapping was fantastic. I have to ask though, why only tap on these? More gentle on these instruments?
I have a 6 string Squier Stratocaster and auditioned for a band as a bassist. I didn't make the cut unfortunately.
Always enjoyable! Keep it going, my man.
Bwahaha I'm gonna steal this one.... "No no no I'm not a guitarist! I'm a PICCOLO BASSIST", well done
That's probably the happiest tune ever played on the casket bass...
UNBELIEVABLE! UNIQUE! FANTASTIC! GREAT TALENT!
I appreciate everything you put out there.
I wonder if Warwick would let you play some of their Entwistle commisioned basses like the Buzzard models?
Omg, the iconic background music 😮😮

Wow Charles! Sounds amazing!
The cloud guitar lick sounds like the Soda Dungeon music. 😂
smoothest placement of an ad in a video ever too!
