Also Alocasias are HEAVY feeders in my experience. I have a frydek, one single plant in a pot, that would not hold on to more than 3/4 leaves. I put slow release fertilizer pellets in the soil and just started generally fertilizing more and now its got 7 leaves, a pup, and its flowering.

I saw a tree documentary on prime and they explained how Plants talk to each other through the root system. There was one main tree and root system, and the other trees in the area intertwined their roots with the main tree. I think all plants love to be potted together. I do that with all of my collection.

I only have a silver Dragon and we are trying to get used to each other. He got brown tips lost a few leaves and now his new leaves are growing in smaller.
So I moved him into a south window his two new leaves don't have brown tips.
So I don't know if he's trying to go dormant or was just not happy. He was also totally drenched when he got here and he seems to be potted in sphagnum moss.
Not sure what to do with him, right now we just stare at each other 🥴 he is pretty 😍

The timing of this video is perfect! I’ve never had an alocasia before until I got one on clearance this past winter, a frydeck with 1 dying leaf. It ended up having 4 corms which I now have in little cups with sphagnum moss with 5 beautiful leaves all with active growth! Ahhh I’m so scared to move them to something more permanent I hope they don’t get mad at me. I’m thinking I want to move them directly into pon and not even mess with a soilless mix. I don’t have any self watering pots available but I do have a glass container I can use without drainage. I’m not 100% confident with pon or alocasia so this really will be another experiment for me, it’s been successful so far so I’m keeping my fingers crossed that when I move them to pon soon they love it. Wish me luck!!

AAAAAAAAH! I think I might've been the person who requested a video with a focus on Alocasia in semi-hydro! And if it wasn't me, it SHOULD'VE BEEN me, especially because we had a lovely exchange in which you were super encouraging after I explained I had killed 2 Black Velvets and 2 Stingrays in soil but was determined to try again, in pon this time. You were kind enough to give me some pointers, and most importantly, reassurance that I would learn and would succeed. I now have 1 larger and 2 smaller Stingrays, 1 Amazonica Polly, and 1 Bambino from a corm I rescued. I also have a pot with a Silver Dragon and a Dragon Scale together because I like the look of them side-by-side. All of them are doing great in pon! I have yet to replace the Black Velvet, but I will. Someday I will feel comfortable enough with my level of expertise 😆to buy a Jacklyn and a variegated Frydek. Thank you for this video, it was such a joy to watch!

The beautiful Black Velvet is in southwest facing window 🪟 the heat/light helps the spidermites to survive. I was surprised my Stingray got spidermites with 60% Humidity in the room. The Stingray was sitting under growlight, so heat/light allowed webbing. 🕸
