- A mouse lived in a windmill in old Amsterdam
A windmill with a mouse in and he wasn't grousin'
He sang every morning "How lucky I am
Living in a windmill in old Amsterdam".
(Chorus)
I saw a mouse -- where? There on the stair
Where on the stair? Right there
A little mouse with clogs on -- well, I declare
Going clip-clippety-clop on the stair - oh yeah
This mouse, he got lonesome, he took him a wife
A windmill with mice in, it's hardly surprisin'
She sang every morning "How lucky I am
Living in a windmill in old Amsterdam"
(Chorus)
First they had triplets and then they had quins
A windmill with quins in, triplets and twins in
They sang every morning "How lucky we are
Living in a windmill in Amsterdam -- ya"
(Chorus)
The daughters got married and so did the sons
The windmill had christenings when no one was listening
They all sang in chorus "How lucky we am
Living in a windmill in old Amsterdam"
(Chorus)
A mouse lived in a windmill, so snug and so nice
There's nobody there now but a whole load of mice - เพลง
I'm 65 and this is right from my childhood, absolutely love it.
59 - same thing..
So glad found this. My wife thought I was mad singing this song. I think she thought I'd made it up! I now sing it to my son with pride.
This is the last song my mum heard before she passed away last night, on my birthday of all days. It now has special meaning for me.
Sending you Love
Genuinely so sorry for your loss, hope you're doing ok now
Hell of a trauma dump
Aww Bless you and your beautiful mum , and its Ronnie Hiltons birthday today . Born 06/05/1927
Awww 🐁 My mum used to sing this to me as I have always loved mice, so we kinda share the special song meaning ☺ 🐁 My boyfriend thinks I'm crazy listening to this song but I'm glad someone else appreciates it 😂 xx
My little sister Cheryl used to love this song she was only 15 months when she died in June 1966 and every time i heard this song it puts a smile on my face i love you my little sister and I always will till we meet again love always
tears for you , her , ;-( ! god bless !!
As a child we used to sing this on car journeys, (no radios in cars back then). I then taught it my children (even though we had a radio) I am now teaching it to my grandchildren and they love it. Some tunes whilst they may not be chart toppers stand the test of time, this is one of them. A real sing along for the kids. Long may it continue to be so.
Good stuff
my mum used to sing this to me as a kid!. She died 5 months ago and I keep thinking about this song, I dont know why =(
Miss you mum.
My dad played it to me age 3. Hes no longer here. 🙏. We process in our own time
She must have been a great lady.
I look after my mam she's 85 with alzheimers. She sang the whole song I could barely hold back the the tears. My dad used to sing it in the car on family trips out when I was a kid.
I only played it to her as my dog left a toy mouse on the stairs. No clogs involved.
A great little Song, which teaches Us about the nature of Mice & how it doesn't take long for them to outnumber Us !!! 🐭 😀
@@nobodyanderson4353 I can understand, this song takes me back to very treasured times with my parents. ❤️
This was regularly played by Ed Stewpot for kids on weekend radio. Lovely memories ❤️
Bloody hell man Ed Stewpot? Thanks for the memory.
Same here! Happy days!
I love this song by Ronnie Hilton. It reminds me of my childhood and It still brings a smile to my face many years later. We have an ornamental mouse on our stairs!! A
My dad used to sing me this song. He later took his own life when I was 15 and my life has never been the same since, I do miss him terribly.
Very sorry to hear about your dad Finn. You will see him again one day
Ronnie Hilton was blessed with a great talent. He had a lovely warm vibrant voice. He was equally at home on beautiful ballads or catchy little ditties like this. One of the best singers the UK ever produced.
This song reminds me of my dad. I grew up in the 80s, and my dad insisted on playing these kinds of songs, which I hated at the time.
Now they give me great memories ❤
This is my all-time favourite song performed by Ronnie Hilton and I remember this song when they broadcast on the radio for Junior Choice on a Saturday morning as well as playing Goldfinger as far as I remember. A great song for me!
This brought so much memories of my child hood in the 70's we sang it in infant school - i hear it now and i cry how life has gone so quick thanks for the upload
My grandmother used to sing this to me any years ago. RIP you wise woman and gave me 25 years of great memories.
Grew up listening to this song even though I'm 14 all those 8 hour treks to Cornwall we'd stick on Hello Children Everywhere and for those 8 hours there and back that's what we had!!
I'm from Amsterdam, and this puts a smile on my face!
Sounds wonderful to live in a windmill in old Amsterdam, and a mouse
@@ahhabernard1045 and triplets and quins!
I loved this song when I was learning to walk. Never heard it for 30 years, but then it all came back like it was yesterday. Amazing!
My dad used to sing this to me many years ago. Loved this song.
I never felt sadder than with the scene this played in in 'It's A Sin.'
It was so heartbreaking. Despite being a novelty song there is something evocative and emotive about it:) la

Honestly it was so depressing. It was almost like Valerie literally could not accept that her son was a grown man and desperately tries to drag him back to that 'straight boy' that is the only time she feels like she really knows him. But of course it fails because time moves on, and people change, or show more of themselves, and it's just so sad because in the end nobody is really satisfied with the outcome.
Blimely! This is a very early childhood memory, don't know how I know the words, they've have come from nowhere!
Watching this with my 90 year-old mum who could not get it out of her head three days ago. Then two days ago, late at night, I spent about 90 minutes encouraging a mouse to find a route out of my conservatory. (Requiring much furniture shifting in the process). I am intrigued by coincidences like this. Enjoying the song and reading the comments below. The words are somehow so memorable.
Hello Helen Myers how are you doing hope you’re having a great time with your family may God bless you and your family
Listening to Ed Stewart Saturday morning r. I. P.. Such great memories as a kid but so m bbc many which are played on Christmas morn with anika rice to relive those good days
I awoke this morning and for some bizarre reason I couldn't stop thinking about this song and trying to recall the tune and words. Isn't the mind a strange thing! So glad I found it here on youtube.
It's a Sin brought me here.

Great song-Ronnie Hilton was a under rated singer!

I remember this song in an episode of 'Bagpuss'. I loved it. Somehow I have never forgotten the chorus and tune.
I work in a care home and a resident had got 'Alexa' for Christmas but with no subscription to Amazon. We were checking out musicals available. This song came on. The resident laughed and asked if I have heard this. I sang along to this song and have played it many times since.
Surprised it never got more notice, since end of TV series 'It's A Sin'

Hello Sharon how are you doing hope you’re having a great time with your family may God bless you and your family
I love singing this song, I always look for that mouse whenever I visit Amsterdam, lovely city, but never found him, my nana used to sing me to sleep with this as a child, now im doing same with my daughter, I have realised why I never found the mouse, it is a case of mistaken identity, I should be looking for a hamster ;) enjoy this, its precious.
I regret to inform you Mr Hallett that the mouse died very shortly after this song came out of a drug overdose
My mum occasionally just starts singing this out of nowhere, somehow she still remembers the whole thing from when she was a kid
I have been looking for this song for ages!
I think I first heard it 7 years ago, and now I finally found it :D
LOVE IT!
My aunt has Alzheimer’s and started singing this a few years ago, unfortunately can’t speak much now but still loves to hear this
I grew up on this song too, taught it to my kids and now I've just taught it to my grandkid's, they love it. We have added our own words though, the mice now wear crocs.....:)

@@fcaughli What's crazy about it Fred. He rang pest control. "I saw a mouse, where, there on the stair, right there" playing on the phone. Mouse, pest. Very clever if you ask me.
One of the best songs about rodent infestation ever recorded.
Christmas number 1 2011!!!!
Remember this song so well will be. Singing it now for weeks what a great childhood memory thank you
I like how the song is about a mill in Amsterdam and the video footage is from another Dutch town called Gouda. Didn't know that an english version of this song existed. I only know the dutch version.
I've got a friend who sung this once in a the pub at the top of his voice pissed, I had to favourite it
My god the memories of this song awesome

I haven't Ronnie Hilton's name mentioned since I came to Australia in 1967! Nice to hear his voice again.
:) Dutch version of the chorus:
Ik zag een muis -- waar? Daar op de trap
Waar op de trap? Nou daar!
Een kleine muis met klompjes
Nee 't is geen grap
't Ging van klip-klipedie-klap op de trap
I got this song recommended. And I don't regret it.
We also got a Dutch version of this! 🐭🌷

Colum Rogers yeh same this is where I’m from!
Going tomorrow to AMSTERDAM and yes I just love this song LOL...well probably sing it on the boat there LOL.....:D
Seven years on you’re certainly not going to Europe this year.......
I saw very little of my grandad after my nan committed suicide, he had been and still was an alcoholic to the day he died, he tricked and scammed everyone he met, i don't have many memories but the only one that was good out of three childhood memories i have, was when he took me and my brother swimming absolutely steaming and embarrassed us both singing this song as loud as he could right up to the moment they kicked us out during our swim, i have always laughed in confusion at what the hell he was singing, and i have only just searched the lyrics to this day which brought me here and it has made that memory a little funnier 🤣 so thank you for posting this 👍
Childhood memories revisited!...And I'm 57 this month!
Hello Ann how are you doing hope you’re having a great time with your family may God bless you and your family

According to British Pathe, the streets/canal scenes were Gouda, 1971 .
Het liedje van Rudi Carel, een muis in een molen! Een heerlijk vrolijk liedje.
Dat was een vertaling. Het is geschreven door Max Bygraves :-)
What a lovely tune
That lucky little mouse :)
They used to play this song to us at school, but I never realised it was this famous!
Happy memories!
I know the scene in its a sin was sad but the way Keeley sang it cracked me up 😂🙄 comedy can sometimes come out of tragedy
I've still got episodes to watch. Cripes
Great video - that's one of my all time favourite songs!
