  • Fedor Holz finds himself in a pickle in this $200,000 pot at the great game of Pot Limit Omaha. I am joined by Phil Galfond today as we break down a spot that Fedor played during a high stakes party poker game. I initially live-streamed this action a few months ago.

Not hard at all, just take a tournament Hold'em player and introduce him to cash PLO.

The big takeaway from this hand is that Fedor played this hand like complete shit and you guys found a nice way to say it.

When Phil said the part about not being sure if the particular play was horrible or genius, that was one of the wisest insights I have heard on a poker video! When you read through the comments on poker videos it's clear that 99% of players don't understand why this is a consideration. Everyone is so quick to say how horrible a person played a hand, but they aren't thinking about all the possible factors that have gone into a play. Even if the ultimate decision in any given hand was wrong in hindsight, the method to get there could be solid. The more players think they have 'solved' the game, the more they are convinced there is only one correct way to play, the worse players they become.

Great analysis guys. I think if Swordfish was a tighter player that only 3bets premium hands, this play would have made more sense. But since he's been 3betting widely, I wouldn't put too much weight to AA/KK type hands, and consider he has more potential to hit this board and play more cautiously/standard.

Well, maybe Fedor didn´t consider leading, maybe would check his hole range there. The guy bet 3 pair, coul´ve checked. And the check raise by Fedor was standard he wants to build the pot and get called by nut flush draws and overpairs with backdoors idk. The guy calls trying to pair the board haha. Fedor has the 8 blocking top set and he doesn´t think 65XX is in the gus´s 3 betting range imo. So he bombs for the same reasons. The guy jams and he levels himself into a call. I mean, if he thinks the guy is bad he should fold there, almost never a bluff.

There is always so much "but what if" analysis to those hands, like "but what if Fedor thought that the other guy thought that he was bullshitting and what if there are levels to this shit blah blah blah", but in the end it's always a regular exploiting a fish or a fish regular like here by just blatently getting it in with nuts when he knows other player is very likely to have 2nd or 3-4th nuts and won't be able to fold it.
I mean, come on, 500 bb and you are getting it in with 5th nuts versus a SHOVE against check raise flop AND POT BET TURN. What the fuck do you expect other player to have besides 86 or 88 or 66 there EVER. Like really, Swordfish is just sitting there thinking, oh, Fedor is full of shit imma shove with kings for 500bb on 8656, lmao.
